Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a Veep. Start the countdown until he calls Obama a “nice young colored man” or something.

WonkaBee August 22, 2008 at 11:23 pm

So! Just a Reed Herring?

TJBeck August 22, 2008 at 11:23 pm

They’re just helping him with his load.

ahhh! cannot take pressure of guessing.

glad my intrade account didn’t go through and i put that $25 into my savings instead?

People! A paddy wagon is not a Secret Service detail.

The Incomparable Tiny Valdez August 22, 2008 at 11:27 pm

I think we should just disappear and regroup around the salmon spawn spring in the fall. Fuck no–Hillary and Bill would drain our bank accounts by then and rearrange everything.

Texan Bulldoggette August 22, 2008 at 11:28 pm

Dang, Ken & Jim are up late tonight. Anyway, who on earth would want to kill Biden? I mean I like his attack dog style, but there ain’t no one out there wanting to take him out. (Excuse my grammar, I’ve had a few Silver Bullets.)

TJBeck August 22, 2008 at 11:29 pm

Well this accelerates my plan to run for Senate. I was targeting Delaware due to only having to convince 200-300k people to vote for me in order to secure a 6-year power-mad reign of terror in the Senate (or 4 years plus a prez campaign).

Does it help that on Wednesday I referred to the State of Delaware as a ‘leach’ sucking its lifeblood from the great state of Pennsylvania?

Fear of a Black Reagan August 22, 2008 at 11:31 pm

Dang. This is a lot of f’ing buildup for a stroke victim who raped Anita Hill all over again…

jagorev August 22, 2008 at 11:31 pm

[re=67284]thwanger[/re]: Intrade is the devil. I put $50 in, soon made it turn into $120 be betting against Giuliani and Mittens. Then bets on Huckabee as the nom or the veep took me all the way down to $0. I’m very bitter about this, and am in line with the Fed for a bailout.

FunkyPalmettoBug August 22, 2008 at 11:36 pm

To steal a joke: its actually the hair club for men after him.

[re=67292]jagorev[/re]: right on with the Fed bailout. if they can spare $50 billz for the bears or whoevers then they can spare 3 digits for folks like you and me!

why does the Fed hate America?

Texan Bulldoggette August 22, 2008 at 11:51 pm

[re=67304]thwanger[/re]: Biden has, believe it or not, a ton of foreign policy cred (but I’m too lazy & semi-drunk to look it up). And Silver Bullet is pretty high class for my area; most folks here drink Bud Light and wine in a box (but they think they’re all fancy!).

wheelie August 22, 2008 at 11:53 pm

[re=67298]Darehead[/re]: You punned it!

@ topic: Stating the obvious . . . Whoever gets picked, they will be showered with peanuts across the internets and beyond, because hating on VPs is a very popular pass-time. Your VP candidates are always going to enrage people, because if they were really popular in the first place, they wouldn’t be a mere VP pick.

Some VPs deal with the hate by hating 100 times back (see Dick Cheney) or by being as bland and anonymous as possible (see Al Bore, back in the day). Which is better?

Also, to state the obvious again, some people drink an awful lot (me).

Serolf Divad August 22, 2008 at 11:53 pm

wheelie August 23, 2008 at 12:01 am

[re=67312]Serolf Divad[/re]: When was the last time you had a white male VP candidate that’s articulate, dynamic, reasonable and trustworthy? It must be the first time in decades. That is why we must encourage white males to take up this challenging job. Sorry to come off patronizing, but I have no doubt that it would prove character-building for that whole white male community. Let’s give them a chance, I say.

It’s Delaware’s U. S. Senator Joe Biden. All indications point to him!

i mean, picture your average texan, you know them better than i, i assume. can you think of someone he’d convince. someone who said ‘well, i was gonna vote for mccrappants, but now that old joe is involved that [insert racial epithet] has got my vote.

i guess, maybe, as long as we can vote for one old guy with white hair…

hey! didn’t obama say he didn’t look like the dude on the dollars? maybe that’s why he picked ol’ fancy french wig joe?

[re=67313]Canmon (the Inadequate)[/re]: Sorry, by the article you linked (which wasn’t terribly flattering to Joe B.), I can’t tell if you were being sarcastic. But, yeah, he probably does have a higher IQ than most of the bitters & those who are inebriated on the weekends, but I won’t hold it against him.

Grouchy Marxist August 23, 2008 at 12:11 am

PLEASE let it be Biden, if for no reason other than the possibility of more “Fresh and Clean” sound bites. He’s by far the least boring. As Colin McEnroe once said way back when, “Picking Dan Quayle was George [the First] Bush’s way of saying to the humor industry, ‘I’m going to take care of you boys.’”

http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/08/fun_with_flightaware_whats_thi.php Marc Ambinder says a chartered flight has gone from Chicago to New Castle DE.

Biden was vocal about wanting McCain to run with Kerry four years ago. He gives the Repubs that ad, and another one because Biden once issued a press release calling Obama a foreign relations neophyte.

Texan Bulldoggette August 23, 2008 at 12:20 am

[re=67326]thwanger[/re]: No, BO was never going to win TX (didn’t matter if he put Sam Houston on the ticket with him). I’m just thinking more nationally. Biden’s not going to piss off half of the electorate & the bitters may or may not get behind the joint ticket. But Biden may put PA more in play (with his Scranton roots) & he does have all that blue collar ‘working man’ cred (whatever the hell that is).

accidental_tourist August 23, 2008 at 12:21 am

I heard that Barry had made his pick, but then Michelle called him up short and said No to his choice, that he needed to pick someone he’s comfortable with.

So he probably picked Biden, thought about Michelle’s good advice, then chose Reed.

That would be my guess. *yawn*

TJBeck August 23, 2008 at 12:25 am

[re=67342]Texan Bulldoggette[/re]: “may put PA more in play”? Dems haven’t lost PA since 1988. If Obama loses PA, we don’t even have to watch the results from other timezones on Nov 4.

thwanger August 23, 2008 at 12:29 am

[re=67342]Texan Bulldoggette[/re]: yes, but, then again.

ah hell i don’t freakin know. who does? i only know like 4 people. and they don’t vote (they are all homeless drug addicts) so i’m a horrible horrible horrible guesser on such subjects.

HOWEVER! why don’t the bitters buy into the whole ‘raised by a single mother working on chicago’s south side” cred for BO? biden’s always seems like a sassy know-it-all to me, and i like sassy know-it-alls.

maybe ol’ joe just bugs me somehow.

maybe i’m not clean and articulate enough?

but thanks for the info on scranton. did he work for.,, oh i can’t even make that joke.

why can’t michelle be his running mate? she’s fantastic.

Cape Clod August 23, 2008 at 12:31 am

It’s gotta be Biden. And it’s gonna be Mittens now. We all knew this weeks ago. All this speculation has just given everyone an excuse to contribute to our already shameless drinking patterns.

Jack Reed. That was a good one.

Political Addict August 23, 2008 at 12:32 am

Delaware sent for Kerry. It has all of 3 EVs. Bonus: He was born in Scranton, PA, where Hillary spent her girlhood summers. So he’s a Bitter.

Texan Bulldoggette August 23, 2008 at 12:32 am

[re=67349]TJBeck[/re]: Sorry, I know Zogby has him up +9 today in PA but I don’t have a lot of confidence in polls that have him up that high. Nov. 4 is still a l-o-o-o-ng way ahead. He’s going to need every advantage he can get & I think he realizes that.

sweetits August 23, 2008 at 12:39 am

It seems like FIVE AND A HALF YEARS have passed since I have been waiting for my text message. Take that Walnuts…I have been a prisoner to my text messaging device.

itgetter August 23, 2008 at 12:46 am

I’m fantasizing about a Mittens/Biden debate. Am I alone here?

Grouchy Marxist August 23, 2008 at 12:46 am

Damn, I’m having a semi-serious thought (and another glass of red something). An early knock against Biden (besides having a name that’s short for “Bin Laden”) was that his partition plan for Iraq was at odds with Obama’s position. But doesn’t that help Barry brand himself (THERE’S an auto-erotic masochism image) as someone who can take the advice of a formidable ally/interlocutor with whom he occasionally disagrees, and yet ultimately make the final (3 AM) call himself (i.e., make the formidable ally his bitch)? What the fuck am I talking about?

Texan Bulldoggette August 23, 2008 at 12:46 am

[re=67350]thwanger[/re]: The bitters have Hillary colored glasses; seriously what’s not to get about their hate? She has worked supposedly ’35 years for the little people’ & along comes this ‘upstart, inadequate black man.’ Nevermind that he cleaned her clock in the Feb. primaries & ran a better campaign. It’s all about how HRC should not have been beat. It’s something her campaign should be looking at–not his.

artful abortions August 23, 2008 at 12:47 am

But it was from CNN.

Fuck you, Obama.

sweetits August 23, 2008 at 12:50 am

CNN just reported that Biden was offered and accepted the veep position. I am happy with the choice. I would really laugh if they fucked it up though. I can’t believe Barry would not have just sent the messages out tonight to get ahead of the report. Just like Christmas…hype and alcohol

itgetter August 23, 2008 at 1:01 am

[re=67359]Grouchy Marxist[/re]: I was having a serious thought too. On CNN they were raving about Biden’s everyman status, including the fact that he’s actually in debt like many Americans. This was a plus in their book. But how long until the Repubs put out an ad asking voters how they can expect a pathetic debtor to help America’s economy?

Also, are you thinking of Timothy Stack? He’s been on both shows, but I don’t see it.

Howard Dean and his Fifty State Strategy means they won’t necessarily pick someone who can carry just ONE state. They want someone who will have mass appeal. A compelling backstory. A kind face. Someone they can relate to.

That ain’t Joe Biden. Biden’s always reminded me of a used car salesman who moonlights as a funeral director on the weekends.

[re=67435]eatsshootsleaves[/re]: I can’t remember who snarked it the first time, but “Obaba bin Biden” fits.

[re=67422]AngryBlakGuy[/re]: Yep. Then again Biden, like Barry, looks more feline than canine to me. It’s mostly a temperament issue. Even when Barry lets his claws out, it’s hard to be either scared or intimidated by him. Even if he draws blood.

[re=67435]eatsshootsleaves[/re]: I bet we’ll see “Biden: his time” like five times by sunrise.

SayItWithWookies August 23, 2008 at 2:39 am

[re=67433]Darehead[/re]: Yeah, but Biden for State I’d be okay with. Biden for VP? He’ll have to be on his really best behavior.

[re=67429]AngryBlakGuy[/re]: Hey I was awake when the Berlin Wall came down, too. You get East Germany to thank me for that and I’ll take my share of the responsibility for Biden. Til then I’m just an aghast spectator.

Ken Layne,

That’s how ABC figured it out. Biden’s extended family was still arriving at his home in Delaware and Obama sends the Secret Service detail. Well, so much for text messaging. “You’ll be the first to know.” Yeah, right. I don’t see the “Change” yet. Am I alone on this? Politics as usual with plenty of room for a big backlash.

Sincerely and respectfully,

Mr-Clark
