  • OH GOD, SUCH LOSERS: They just banged the gavel for the bailout vote, and some Republican (who voted against it) asked about a motion to reconsider. So is he just going to vote for it if they raise it a second time — which they probably will, in some form — so as to say he didn’t vote for it the first time? Brilliant.

Maybe a few of them checked out their stock portfolios after the first vote.

Truculent September 29, 2008 at 2:12 pm

Now they can vote for it after they voted against it. Political genius

StrangelyBrown September 29, 2008 at 2:12 pm

We’re Boehned.

grendel September 29, 2008 at 2:12 pm

Everyone who changes their vote from the first vote to the 2nd should be hung from the Capital building by their genitals.

SayItWithWookies September 29, 2008 at 2:12 pm

Oh, maybe the Republicans just wanted to vote against it to express their displeasure, not knowing that maybe some consequences would ensue. Then after 435 frantic calls from individual stockbrokers, the idea kinda got across that this wasn’t some silly game. Kinda reminds me of the hilarity of that “let’s invade Iraq” vote — ah, good times.

Doglessliberal September 29, 2008 at 2:12 pm

so he is a moron AND has no balls? I mean, hell, if you are going to be a moron and bring about the collapse of the US economy, at least have the nuts to own up to your position.

“No, I THOUGHT you were going to vote for it.”

Is it wrong to say that we are all Freddy Rumsen of Mad Men tonight? Ie: drunk and pissing themselves?

I blame McCain. They had a deal last week, why does Congress hate Americans?

Everybody know this needs to be done, but nobody wants to be responsible for it.

Brilliant, because “I was against it before I was for it” is a TOTALLY different meme.

Is that a better position to be in with their constituencies?!?! I was against it before I folded like a cheap suit 10 minutes later?!?!?

loudmouthredhead September 29, 2008 at 2:17 pm

I wonder if Walnuts regrets huddling with Boner now (yes, I know that’s not how you spell it!)

So, if we’re in the tank, and the markets are tanking, and being “in the tank” means you’re a socialist liberal…wait….does this mean Obama wins right now and we’re all communists?

I for one, welcome our melanin-enhanced comrade.

House repubs: “Look let’s just vote it down and see how the market reacts”

[SOUND OF ALTITUDE ALERT HORN]

Market: “WHOOOOP WHOOOOP PULL UP! WHOOOOP WHOOOOP PULL UP!”

[SOUND OF 'GO AROUND' INITIATION]

House repubs: *nervous laughter* “Hahahha just kidding!”

I’m surprised that 94 Democrats voted against it. Why would Pelosi bring this to the floor if it didn’t have support?

Texan Bulldoggette September 29, 2008 at 2:23 pm

HuffPo says Hopey is going to fly in to vote for the bill. Walnuts is still thinking about it. Translation: he ain’t going to do shit & then crap all over Obama for supporting it.

El Topo September 29, 2008 at 2:23 pm

[re=113769]El Bombastico[/re]: Well, you see, anyone resorting to this little parliamentary parlour trick doesn’t have to be truthful; such reps can simply say “I voted against the bailout” without ever mentioning that they changed their minds 3 minutes afterward, and chances are that no one will ever call them out on it–because that would be “partisan,” i.e. “elitist.”

You seem to forget that we as a nation could give a rat’s ass about facts, much less about educating ourselves enough to vote in our own fukkin’ interests.

Wait, McCain didn’t fix everything? He better go have dinner with Lieberman again, just to get things back on track.

someone on one of the blogs referred to this as “the prisoner’s dilemma” and said the Republicans (especially) were trying to put themselves in the place of opposing the vote as long as the vote passed. then they could blame the whole thing on others and get away with it. but a failed vote and a huge drop in the market might get their attention. it isn’t that the legislation is wonderful, but the choice is not between “wonderful” and “even more wonderful”. so the usual goofy antics of the house republicans are less appreciated.
and yeah. let’s have a week or more of these nuts jabbering on about some pet idea that will make everything ok again. maybe the gold standard.

Unfortunately it’s not just the Repugs. A (step) family member of mine who is a House Dem said she was voting against it, because it didn’t have foreclosure relief or something. Christmas this year should be interesting.

Dave J. September 29, 2008 at 2:34 pm

Technically, I think that in order to file a motion to reconsider, you MUST vote against it, or something like that. So if you know it’s going down to defeat, you have to vote against the bill in order to file your motion to reconsider. It’s why you frequently see Harry Reid siding with the Republicans on stupid cloture votes. I don’t understand parliamentary procedure well, though, so someone else could tell me if I’m wrong.

momentum57 September 29, 2008 at 2:51 pm

Anyone else see this as a good thing. Both sides seem to think that this is a bad idea in a lot of ways. The only people who seem to want to push it through is the Bush Admin. Dem leadership does not like the lack of oversight and Republicans can’t stand the idea of giving money away. The Bush white house keeps its distance so that neither side would have to say its because of Bush that they oppose and both implode with indecision.

As for me I am looking forward to seeing the financial fallout pull down some shitty companies and knock a few down a bit and make them affordable. Now is the best time to invest when everyone is selling their asses into poverty buy at the lowest price you will ever see in your life time.

This plan seemed doomed from the beginning considering that when Japan did it there was 3 years of economic vomit to clean up. Why cant we just let these companies slit their own throats and have better companies buy up the brands and names that made much of their money.

Just how many damn seats to those useless Democrats have to have before they can actually do something. Note to Nancy pants. You got the power baby. Try using it and pass the damned bill already.
