why isn’t this on the NYT or CNN sites yet? MSNBC and Wonkette have this, period.

Nigerian Business Executive October 26, 2008 at 2:50 pm

I love surprises! But in all honesty, I prefer Cocktober surprises to October surprises.

eatsshootsleaves October 26, 2008 at 2:51 pm

What the fuck?

PinkoLibrarian October 26, 2008 at 2:54 pm

And we attacked Pakistan this morning too.
“Suspected US drones attack alleged militant compound in Wana, Pakistan; at least 8 killed – Dawn News”
Busy day……

Keram2 October 26, 2008 at 2:54 pm

Fuck. I put my all money on Bush bombing Iran before he left office. My bookie is going to be pissed.

Serolf Divad October 26, 2008 at 2:55 pm

Can we impeach McCain even before the elections?

Gopherit October 26, 2008 at 2:55 pm

Yes, under Bush, we have become the recklass world cop who can’t be bothered with Jurisdictions. Wait for the Pakistani invasion tomorrow.

On the lighter side:

HAHAHAHAHA!

[re=149378]PinkoLibrarian[/re]: Dammit, they started early.

Hooray For Anything October 26, 2008 at 2:57 pm

Syria’s totally in the tank for McCain.

naveed October 26, 2008 at 2:58 pm

Is the Bush team taking requests for targets now? Do I call in or what?

ManchuCandidate October 26, 2008 at 3:01 pm

Apocalypse Again.

Oh boy. Why did I suddenly see a Colonel wearing a Cavalry Hat, whose choppers are playing “Ride of the Valkyries” from their speakers and while he screams about how “Abdul don’t surf” and that this is the best waves in all of Iraq?

“I love the smell of border incursions in the morning. It smells like an October Surprise.”

eatsshootsleaves October 26, 2008 at 3:02 pm

This isn’t really a big deal, right? Except, well, according to the Telegraph everyone who was killed was a civilian.

Hooray For Anything October 26, 2008 at 3:02 pm

Will McCain now suspend his campaign to broker peace between America & Syria? Or did he personally lead the attack himself?

Besides, I thought the october surprise was gas prices dropping almost a dollar a gallon in a week. REally, it’s because global demand went down! REALLY!

Everyone who runs is Al Qaeda. Everyone who stands still is well-disciplined Al Qaeda.

[re=149388]ManchuCandidate[/re]: Ha ha, look what I picked for the update image.

donner_froh October 26, 2008 at 3:08 pm

[re=149389]eatsshootsleaves[/re]: Civilians are much easier to hit–they are just going about thier civilian business, like the construction workers in this case, and they don’t shoot back.

I know the military, like any huge organization, can be mind-numbingly incompent but blowing up wedding celebrations, schools and the like can’t have been a mistake every time.

Heh.

As long as you are not standing in Syria or Pakistan right this minute this will not do shit for the republican bastards so don’t get all worried. The only thing that might work would be cheap or free cigarettes for the smokers who will do anything for cigs.
Oh, America.
Anyway, I’m voting for Obama and Biden because I love Ikea and want to be there all the time.

Naked Bunny with a Whip October 26, 2008 at 3:17 pm

Suuure. And the American GIs carved a big backwards “B” into Syria’s face, too.

restlessleg October 26, 2008 at 4:26 pm

False flag operation?

[re=149391]Worlds End[/re]: Thank you!

bitchincamaro October 26, 2008 at 5:21 pm

Calm down people. Builders were working on Sunday, the Christian sabbath; a clear violation of the Bush Doctrine.

Borat October 26, 2008 at 5:41 pm

[re=149393]Gopherit[/re]: the decline in gas prices was more to do with the appreciation of the US dollar. But anyway, Opec is cutting output and if we have another good war, they’ll be right back up where they should be.

Now, let’s start cutting that gas tax so our infrastructure can totally rot to sheds while we destroy someone else’s (then grant lucrative rebuilding contracts later)

Can we get a lucrative rebuilding contract for Chicago please – I was there a couple months ago and it was basically all potholes.

Lazy Media October 26, 2008 at 6:31 pm

I wonder if they got Murphy’s rank right. They’re letting E-5s answer media questions now? See, if that’s correct, what happened is AFP called in to the Combined Press Information Center press desk and got the kid who answers the phone and takes messages, and quoted him/her. It can take 12-24 hours for the military flacks to get reports back from Special Forces to get their version of ground truth.

Similar stories often popped up in Iraq while I was there a couple years ago, generated by press releases from the “Muslim Scholars Association,” a Sunni jihadist front group. Most of them were totally bogus, some not. It’s not like the Syrian Baath party is exactly a font of accurate info. Prolly what happened is, we got good intel of Al Qaeda al Rafidain types in this Syrian village a couple miles over the border, and decided, “Fuck it, what’s Syria gonna do?” and went and whacked their asses. That appears to be happening on the Afghan-Pakistani border now; why should Syria feel special?

Or, we got bad intel and killed a bunch of civilians. That happens sometimes, way too often.

palmerdawg October 27, 2008 at 4:27 am

Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran, no Syria, no Iraq, no Arizona…….. no wait, i live in Arizona, or do I? Hey CUNT, i mean Cindy, where do we live?

S.Luggo October 27, 2008 at 11:04 am

If we start now, our armored divisions can reach Damascus in 4 days. Then it’s on to Stalingrad.
