Facts are stupid things!FAREWELL, GOP! “Good-bye and get lost,” the wingnut chorus screeches, “you lousy fancy-talking money-having educated elitist conservatives who read your liberal gay Kenyan books and talk in your communist-terrorist special polysyllabic words!” [Political Machine]

“para-dij-um”
What came out of Ronnie’s mouth when some speechwriter had the audacity to include the word “paradigm”.

SmallTownBoy October 28, 2008 at 12:23 am

Monkey see…well..you know the rest.

HuskyMescan October 28, 2008 at 12:25 am

Ronnie imitating a god damned moose. The irony is killing me inside.

Monkey October 28, 2008 at 12:28 am

I don’t want to ruffle any feathers here, but, well, I guess I’m starting to feel like Wonkette is in the tank for Obama and not the fair, unbiased, bipartisan, objective news outlet paragon of journalistic integrity I’d always thought it was. Sorry, but that’s how I feel.

mattbolt October 28, 2008 at 12:30 am

Oh God, please let the Republicans splinter into tiny furious parts, much like the Baptist church, or the post-WWII German military, or anything else that was forced into being broken up and which is furious.

Take it from a Canadian. A while back, our Conservative party (equivalent to America’s Gay Nader Fans for Peace – natch, Stewart) splintered into the Reform party (social conservatives, wingnuts, dingbats, Albertans, comedy fodder) and the Progressive Conservatives (fiscal conservatives, harmless dorks in grey suits who hate taxes) and the resulting split and highly-publicized in-fighting led the Liberal party to stay in power for, like, 12 fuckin’ years! Then the Reforms and PC’s merged back into a big old united Conservative Party and surprise, they’ve handily won the last 2 fucking elections.

hockeymom October 28, 2008 at 12:31 am

The Republican Party will shatter like Nancy Reagan’s hip. And then Cindy will sneak in and steal Nancy’s pills.

slappypaddy October 28, 2008 at 12:35 am

“polysyllabic”? There’s not a wingnut in or out of Creation could pronounce more than half that word.

donner_froh October 28, 2008 at 12:38 am

Ken, you like to kick them while they are down which is a trait I admire.

Snarxon's Holler October 28, 2008 at 12:50 am

the doctor October 28, 2008 at 12:55 am

Haha, oh Ken Layne, don’t you know that Barry is actually the MOST LIBERAL SENATOR EVER, if not actually the MOST LIBERAL SENATOR POSSIBLE?

Hopey is not a centrist he is a terror-loving extremist.

ShaqsDong October 28, 2008 at 12:56 am

You know when all is said and done and the RW fundies end up excommunicating all of the moderates from the GOP, the DLC/Blue Dogs are going to bring them in and their influence is going to invariably give us a shitty Bush/Clinton hybrid Democratic president down the line.

Darthhippy October 28, 2008 at 1:02 am

Larry McAwful October 28, 2008 at 1:05 am

[re=151969]the doctor[/re]: They’re running out of hyperbole here. The next time a Democratic senator runs, they’ll have to tar him or her as the MOST LIBERAL POSSIBLE because MOST LIBERAL SENATOR EVER is a step up from MOST LIBERAL CURRENT SENATOR. However, they might want to economize and make the next step the MOST LIBERAL SENATOR IN THE PAST AND IN THE FUTURE. Then move on to POSSIBLE.

Just trying to help out here, I am…

Too many big words in that article for me to follow. All I know is that the democrat congress just voted to take all my tax dollars and buy some big banks, like they are socialists or something!

jagorev October 28, 2008 at 1:13 am

None of the first three AOL comments are insane ALL CAPS rants about the Muslim Bill Ayers. What’s wrong with the AOL? This is frightening.

donotronix October 28, 2008 at 1:16 am

[re=151969]the doctor[/re]: Eh, I could live with that. I don’t think the word liberal is going to mean what the Repubs changed it to in 1988 anymore. Here’s what my favorite gay, communist, elitist dictionary website says it means:
lib⋅er⋅al
   /ˈlɪbərəl, ˈlɪbrəl/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [lib-er-uhl, lib-ruhl]

1. favorable to progress or reform, as in political or religious affairs.
2. (often initial capital letter) noting or pertaining to a political party advocating measures of progressive political reform.
3. of, pertaining to, based on, or advocating liberalism.
4. favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.
5. favoring or permitting freedom of action, esp. with respect to matters of personal belief or expression: a liberal policy toward dissident artists and writers.
6. of or pertaining to representational forms of government rather than aristocracies and monarchies.
7. free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant: a liberal attitude toward foreigners.
8. open-minded or tolerant, esp. free of or not bound by traditional or conventional ideas, values, etc.
9. characterized by generosity and willingness to give in large amounts: a liberal donor.
10. given freely or abundantly; generous: a liberal donation.

[re=151985]jagorev[/re]: No kidding, this is a little scary.

I also had a lot of typos and collapsed sentences in the first posted version of this column, and nobody complained about that, either.

So, I guess Ron Paul and Jim Newell are right, about everything.

rambone October 28, 2008 at 1:46 am

[re=151998]Ken Layne[/re]: My guess is that the wingnuts are still flummoxed by the Drudge headline. Once they figure that one out, they’ll rally the troops and recommence they’re anti-Muslin diatribes in earnest.

Apart from labeling Obama as ‘centrist’ (actually, who knows what he is … so long as he‘s not a member of the Clintonian neo-Republican DLC, don‘t care), scorching, burning, disco-inferno. Spot on. Thanks.

knoxtheharpy October 28, 2008 at 2:01 am

Hm. I thought that the term “wingnut” comprised “cretins, bitters, poors and racists” and thereby functioned as a handy catch-all. Enlightened by this right wing taxonomy lesson, I have a new understanding of my coworkers. Thank you, Wonkette, for being servicey.

In one of those fevered dreams that comes only in the darkest moments of the night, I have seen the future. It has become hazy with consciousness, but I still clearly remember the image of Sarah Palin, holding herself up on the radio mast of the tallest building in Juneau, holding forth the bloodied, severed head of Mitt Romney, screaming into the gale, “There can be only one!”

I’m not sure what John McCain needs to seal the deal on this thing is a simpler Sarah Palin.

What do you mean handily? I’d say if Fatty McGoo won parliamentary majorities then you have a point unless they changed the definition minority = majority.

Let’em talk about Palin 2012. She won’t be around then. The stupid twat thinks that the people she threw under the bus WON’t pay her back. Boy is she going to find out the politics of revenge. If she were the coalition building leader the dumbshit goobers though she was then Troopergate would have been swept under the rug but even the Alaskan Repubs wanted to stick a shiv in her. She isn’t and those folks are looking for her blood. The last two years of her governorship will be a constant legal battle. Her political comeuppance is just beginning.

Excellent article, but one point I sincerely disagree with. Obama is not a centrist. He is probably not the most liberal senator, but he has very liberal positions in almost every issue. That’s why people (and I) supported him over Hillary in the first place. And if you read his books or read about his early life, you’ll find that he’s even more liberal than he seems on the campaign trail. This guy was an intellectual, a professor, after all. McCain’s “socialism” attack is dumb, but there’s a little bit of truth in it.

dano October 28, 2008 at 8:05 am

[re=151998]Ken Layne[/re]: You really seem to have a way of stirring up the wingnutz over at AOL. I predict a barrage of face melting all caps tirades.

Cape Clod October 28, 2008 at 8:08 am

[re=152066]ManchuCandidate[/re]: Part of me hopes that the Palin phenomena expires over the next two years, but I agree with Ken. I don’t think the Repubs have had a more divisive personality in years and her raw, ruthless ambition is probably her defining feature, (next to winking idiotically and being a dumb ass). Even if she does get embroiled in legal troubles over the next two years, she will simply say that she’s been targeted by the establishment because they fear her.

Sabre_Justice October 28, 2008 at 8:15 am

I wonder if this is actually gonna happen.

I HOPE FLORIDIANS GOT A GOOD GANDER OF THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN BLACKLISTING THE REPORTER AND RADIO STATION FOR A QUESTION THEY DIDN’T LIKE. –SOUND FAMILIAR? SUPPRESSION OF THE FREE PRESS IS ONE OF THE 1ST FREEDOMS THAT DISAPPEAR.
THIS REPORTER HAD INTERVIEWED MCCAIN–WONDER WHY OBAMA HAS FAILED TO BE INTERVIEWED FOR MONTHS? HE SENDS IN BIDEN–ALTHOUGH BIDEN IS MORE EXPERIENCED, HE CAN’T HIDE BEHIND BIDEN FOREVER. CLINTON & BIDEN HAVE BOTH COMMENTED ON OBAMA’S LACK OF EXPERIENCE SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE PRIMARIES.”

I can only assume that “torii” is the plural of “torus”, of which one of the dictionary definitions is “a smooth rounded anatomical protuberance (as a bony ridge on the skull)”, thus confirming once and for all that AOL commenters are indeed neanderthals…

monty October 28, 2008 at 8:47 am

[re=151993]Lascauxcaveman[/re]: [re=152021]the doctor[/re]: i think that the way the GOPers use the word liberal is a whole ‘nother context. (i.e. sunscreen apply liberally to the exposed area, or pie, remove from freezer thaw apply whip cream liberally) So im guessing here, but it seems to me like the GOPers are saying barry muslin hussein will take a liberal amount of my paycheck and liberally spread my wealth to the muslin poors. He will let a liberal amount of terr’ist into the country to reek a liberal amount of havoc and liberally rape and pillage our white wimmins and daughters. Dont forget the liberal amount of abortions that will be performed by said terr’ist. Remmeber that barry muslin hussein is the most liberal person to EVER run for president and nancy pelosi and harry reid are the most liberal people to EVER be in congress EVER. So barry, harry, and nancy are going to liberally spread the liberalism to the liberals. Just typing that makes me feel dirty , i need to sanitize my hands just like when i shake hands with the common folk.

Johnny Zhivago October 28, 2008 at 9:30 am

Is that a backwards “M” on Ken’s face???

slavojzizek October 28, 2008 at 9:45 am

Funniest line is this one: “What should emerge from this wreckage is a major conservative party that acknowledges the idiocy of acquiescing to dumb mobs, a liberal party that realizes its future lies with inspiring centrists like Obama and not fringe-identity politics, and a lot of tiny angry splinter groups filled with nuts dedicated to one extremist cause or another.” Hilarious to think some people still believe politics are going to just go on as normal while the US implodes.

wildeoats October 28, 2008 at 9:58 am

Best line ever on Republicans from a Wonkette commenter whose name I forget: “Republicans, like abortions, should be safe, rare, and legal.”

masterdebater October 28, 2008 at 10:43 am

Not a single person I know really wants the republicans to fail. Wallow in self pitty, cry because they feel cheated, put out new scarey stories…sure, but go away completely? What would we do all day?

Ken Layne is such a depressing loser. ”

well, Moran, if Layne is depressing you, stop reading, maybe? The person is clearly a closeted, self-hating Democrat who is compelled to read your stuff, but despises himself for it. So very sad.

regisgoat October 28, 2008 at 12:22 pm

Ken’s right. I always say “No one ever called Bob Dole the antichrist”. If the Republicans want to come back and act like a responsible conservative party of elder statesmen, who wouldn’t mind having them around?
I mean, I had to watch my rock-ribbed Republican dad–an accountant, for god’s sakes–trying to defend the way Junior Bush spent this nation into a deficit. It hurt me on a Freudian level. After more than 40 years of fruitloopism beginning with Nixon and his hellspawn, it’s about time the Republicans rebooted.

Guppy06 October 28, 2008 at 5:36 pm

Ugh, the “moderate” “centrist” label has my stomach turning. I think I’ve seen enough of what “moderate” “centrist” Democrats do during these past two years, where the Democrats in the Capitol had their noses further up Bush’s ass than the past three Republican-dominated Congresses.

If Obama is one of these “centrists,” I’m gonna throw my vote away on Brian Moore.

palmerdawg October 30, 2008 at 4:47 am
