This is off-topic, but I was hoping someone could help me with a serious question. A co-worker and I were discussing the Obama tax plan and she told me that Obama wanted to take a portion of the money the wealthy have made over the last 8 years. I told her it was nonsense and more twisting and slander, but we decided to go over to his site to go over the .pdf of his tax plan:

The part that really kind of rocked me was “Obama will ask the wealthiest 2% of families to give back a portion of the taxes they have received over the past eight years”. I told her it was poorly worded and meant that he wanted to roll back tax breaks given underneath W’s administration. I wanted references to bolster my argument, but I can’t find any. Does Obama really want to take money from the last 8 years from the wealthy? I’m a big Obama supporter, but I have problems with that stance so I really hope that it’s just poorly worded. I don’t think it’s right to reach back 8 years and take money from anyone’s pocket unless they were breaking the law. Anyone have any references to clear this up?

A serious question about the tax plan, and you’re asking for guidance here? I think I’ve heard THE THAT ONE say that very thing. Perhaps I was blinded by the starbursts, but I’d always heard it to mean that they were simply letting the tax cut expire, as the bill was written. As to where one could prove that, I can’t say.
The rich were given the tax cuts and now they’re being asked to give them back. Not give back the money, the gave the tax.
