  • OBAMA SIGNS A LAW!: Your president, Barack Obama, signed his first bill into a law today, just like you read about in the textbooks! And it was the famous Lilly Ledbetter Act that will make it easier for employees to sue for wage discrimination. This has been a major women’s rights cause for some time, and now it’s passed, and we are waiting to see the reactions here and here, which seem a bit tardy. [Dow Jones/CNN]

Jesus Newell are you trying to restart that flame war from a few weeks ago? I sincerely hope so because I really miss Daragh Murphy’s insightful commentary. That and she called us the Boiz which makes me feel like a member of some late nineties pop group.

Rush January 29, 2009 at 5:06 pm

All class action lawyers please report for duty.

ghardcastle January 29, 2009 at 5:07 pm

I saw it on the front page, and first thing I did was look to see if The Confluence had disappeared in a puff of logic.

Sadly, no!

Sarah Palin for Preznit!

GlennBecksFelch January 29, 2009 at 5:08 pm

Finally, Ann Coulter gets what she richly deserves!!!

Red Zeppelin January 29, 2009 at 5:09 pm

Whattya say now bitches?

Apropos of nothing, I think PUMA stands for Put it Up My Ass, i.e., “saddleback me.”

magic titty January 29, 2009 at 5:09 pm

Haha. The WebWasher software at my job blocked the PUMA site, categorizing it as “Spam URL’s”.

Haha.

El Pinche January 29, 2009 at 5:10 pm

I saw it this morning and I swear I heard Contessa Brewer flub and say “Lilly Bedwetter” once. She corrected herself. Anyways, HUZZAH for da wimmins!!!

Aurelio January 29, 2009 at 5:10 pm

You gotta hand it to the chix. They dominate us with sex, guilt, and now, litigation. That’s why you gotta hand it to the chix. Now hand it to them!

shanemacgowan January 29, 2009 at 5:10 pm

“The legislation effectively reverses a U.S. Supreme Court decision from 2007″

Barry is intent on fucking with John Roberts.

rambone January 29, 2009 at 5:10 pm

So, how will this impact the bukake performance art shows that I put on in subways during rush hour (with the help of my unsuspecting female assistants)?

Bypartizoa January 29, 2009 at 5:11 pm

I’d rather see him sign the Huddie Ledbetter act. Whoooaaaa Black Betty, Bam-Ba-Lam!

ManchuCandidate January 29, 2009 at 5:11 pm

They seem to forget the immortal words of their hero John “Get Off My FUCKING Lawn!” McCain

“The US America Economy fundamentals are strong.”
Sept 09.

SayItWithWookies January 29, 2009 at 5:11 pm

Okay, that’s fine — just nobody tell Obama that other presidents made more than seven bucks an hour.

rambone January 29, 2009 at 5:12 pm

[re=232140]magic titty[/re]: Well, look at you with your fancy job. I bet you get paid money and stuff too . . .

Since it’s not being signed by President Hilary it’s just a muslin ploy to bring us more socialism.

Lascauxcaveman January 29, 2009 at 5:13 pm

Ha! No woman is stoopid enough to work for how little I earn.

magic titty January 29, 2009 at 5:13 pm

Barry might have to sue for sexual harrassment because the all those fancy government wimminz were ogling him during the signing.

Sarah Palin (vp@whitehouse.gov) January 29, 2009 at 5:13 pm

WOO-HOO!! HELLO $225,000 WARDROBE!!ALSO!!

Newsflash: PUMAs still bitter, still binge eating

chascates January 29, 2009 at 5:16 pm

Since they have all the pussy in the world and control most of the money this just adds insult to injury.

heroinmule January 29, 2009 at 5:17 pm

I LOVE this woman. She sounds like a tough Southern lady!

magic titty January 29, 2009 at 5:18 pm

[re=232147]rambone[/re]: even though I’m a straight male, do you have dental?

V572625694 January 29, 2009 at 5:18 pm

Ms Ledbetter was on NPR this AM — it really is a heart-rending story of how this tire plant paid her less than the penile-Americans doing the same job. She was a lifelong reuglican, as was her hubby. When WALNUTS! voted against this bill, which would have made her whole, that tore it for her, and she did a spot for Hopey. Shrum says it was the most effective spot ever w/focus groups.

So suck it, WALNUTS! More job training isn’t always the answer.

StephanieInCA January 29, 2009 at 5:22 pm

So this Ledbetter gal made it so I get the same amount of hobo beans as my male coworkers when we all lose our jobs forever? Neat!

Red Zeppelin January 29, 2009 at 5:24 pm

[re=232137]GlennBecksFelch[/re]: What, the law applies to psychotic trannies too?

IceCreamEmpress January 29, 2009 at 5:25 pm

She was a lifelong reuglican, as was her hubby. When WALNUTS! voted against this bill, which would have made her whole, that tore it for her, and she did a spot for Hopey

I was wondering why she had such a Republican hairstyle and outfit going on. HA!

shortsshortsshorts January 29, 2009 at 5:27 pm

I find this law to be incredibly secksist to my personal interests.

tunamelt January 29, 2009 at 5:29 pm

[re=232137]GlennBecksFelch[/re]: Her money taken away from her to be awarded to a woman?

Oh wait..I have to get a job first? Damn.

qwerty42 January 29, 2009 at 5:35 pm

[re=232167]V572625694[/re]: Nina Totenberg on NPR about the Ledbetter case. What the hell was Goodyear thinking?

and stoopid puma bitches can’t spell Tequila. I mean, there are times I can’t spell tequila but it is usually due to mass consumption of said tequila. AND I KNOW THE PUMAS ARE SOBER!!@#!@! also.

[re=232163]chascates[/re]: [re=232178]shortsshortsshorts[/re]: They want some fucking money. So why don’t they have the sense to peddle the ass God gave them?

FamilyLost January 29, 2009 at 5:43 pm

So now all I have to do is
1. Ask the guys in my office how much they earn
2. Find all of their job descriptions and compare it to mine
3. Find a lawyer willing to get me more monies
4. Fight the major corp for which I work to give me more monies (will take years)
5. Find another job

Eh…lots of work for 22 cents.

NoWireHangers January 29, 2009 at 5:45 pm

The crazy, horribleness of the PUMAS and their ilk is highlighted on a day like to today when the first bill Barack Obama signs as President is one that John McCain opposed. Yet we hear nary a word from the ignorant frothing of the PUMAS. But who am I kidding, to be disappointed or shocked by their behavior would suggest that they are rational.

Rodney Badger January 29, 2009 at 5:45 pm

I went and checked out those sites shortly after I heard the news. I’m not surprised that the PUMApac site had nothing on this because it is basically a huge fraud run by a republican John McCain supporter trying to take advantage of the low hanging fruit that are the bitters.

But I’m surprised that confluence has said nothing about it. Even noquarter maed poast that can be described as favorable insofar as it didn’t refer to Obama as a secret muslin. But still no Michelle Whitey tape. Also

V572625694 January 29, 2009 at 5:49 pm

[re=232189]qwerty42[/re]: Yeah, that’s the story. Goodyear’s one thing — Alabama’s another. Got a Prius for a rental car in the Huntsville airport one time, told everybody about it. They all asked, “What’s a Prius?” Lotta nice folks there, but many just haven’t got the word yet on some of these new-fangled ideas, like “Women are not property,” or “Using our state as a dumping ground for everybody else’s toxic waste may not be profitable in the long run.”

Rodney Badger January 29, 2009 at 5:51 pm

[re=232206]FamilyLost[/re]: Yes, but no.

1. Guys love to brag and lie. They will tell you that they make way more than they actually do. This will help your case.

2. They don’t know their job description, so you can make one up for them.

3. Easy. The lawyer section of the phone book is always the largest, regardless of where you live. You probably don’t even have to open it up to find one, just flip it over and check out the ads on the back.

4. It will take under thirty seconds. I did it a couple of times this morning. The same comment also applies to your fourth point.

5. Another?

Finally, punitive damgezzzzz.

Hooray For Anything January 29, 2009 at 5:52 pm

The joke’s on us because in another couple of months, there won’t be any employers left to discriminate against anyone.

I’m sure the broads over at Riverchuckie are about to find out they make the same amount of money as WalMart greeters as their token miq2xu.

[re=232219]Rodney Badger[/re]: Also, possible class-action status, also.

FamilyLost January 29, 2009 at 6:02 pm

Rodney Badger: I would probably not get to #5. My company would have me killed on a secret level of our building to which only certain people have access. That’s what happens when we cost our employer extra monies. Or if we take too many sick days. Also.

Lionel Hutz Esq. January 29, 2009 at 6:03 pm

[re=232146]shanemacgowan[/re]: But the joke is on Obama, since Roberts made sure that he isn’t the real president.

Rodney Badger January 29, 2009 at 6:07 pm

[re=232238]FamilyLost[/re]: Then why don’t you just fuck your boss for a raise?

slinkimalinki January 29, 2009 at 6:09 pm

dear god, the pumapac excels even itself in random capitalisation/paranoid gibberish:

Gotta go ((((((((PUMALAND)))))—brought from downstairs>

One last thought. WHERE’S HE GOING when this is all over.
You think he’s going to say, OH WELL< LOST this one and let
it go.

Do you think all the dirt he probably has on them, they’ll just
say OH WELL, now it’s OVER ————–NAAAAHHHHHH!!!

He should just hang them and be done with it,
as things stand he lives in a VERY Precarious, and possibly
DANGEROUS life, knowing the things he knows.

For things to BEGIN to tumble, he must be impeached,
as he should be.”

if only there had been a category for that at the blog awards.

Godot January 29, 2009 at 6:17 pm

“Tardy” in what respect, Jim?

Lionel Hutz Esq. January 29, 2009 at 6:17 pm

Well, the PUMAs don’t want to discuss reality, as my comment on PUMAPAC won’t clear moderation, and riverdaughter deleted mine in 1/2 an hour, even though it was getting more on topic comments than anything else on the thread.

Why do they hate America so?

Lionel Hutz Esq. January 29, 2009 at 6:22 pm

We shall go on to the end, we shall blog in Pumapac,
we shall blog on the riverdaughter and the Corner,
we shall blog with growing confidence and growing strength in the internet, we shall defend our Wonkette, whatever the cost may be,
we shall blog on the beaches,
we shall blog on the landing grounds,
we shall blog in the fields and in the streets,
we shall blog in the hills;
we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, Wonkette or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our blog beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the Wonketteers, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New Republic, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.

[re=232250]Rodney Badger[/re]: Cause he’s a gay misogynist?

Healthcare, childcare, education is okay, but the right to sue? Watch out men – here we come!

Look President Sugar Tits, I wants mah stimulus money. Not that slightly better odds at achieving successful litigation isn’t supergreat, but keeeeeep it coming.

magic titty January 29, 2009 at 6:30 pm

[re=232178]shortsshortsshorts[/re]: So do the ladies get the same amount of stimulus money as we do? Cuz that’s bullshit.

Well we should have seen this coming. You elect the guy and sure enough, he just starts signing things and all.

shortsshortsshorts January 29, 2009 at 6:59 pm

[re=232289]magic titty[/re]: Yes but it usually takes them longer to receive said stimulus.

Of course they won’t say anything. They can’t turn it into a negative against Obama.

CivicHoliday January 29, 2009 at 7:46 pm

is it weird that i cried when i read the WaPo story about this? godsdamn, i iz so happy, what with the feminism and whatnot

myheadsexploding January 29, 2009 at 7:51 pm

as of whatever time it is here, PUMApac and CONFLUENCE still have mysteriously missed out on this little tidbit of news.

Cicada January 29, 2009 at 7:51 pm

[re=232364]lenorecutie[/re]: When has reality ever gotten in the way of the PUMAs turning something into a negative against Obama? Don’t underestimate the logic-bending ability of the PUMAs! By the time they’re done with it, the Ledbetter act will rank up there with the opening of Auschwitz.

AnglRdr January 29, 2009 at 7:57 pm

PUMAs give vaginas a bad name.

I_KILL_ZOMBIES_ALSO January 29, 2009 at 8:01 pm

Dude, it’s totally sweet, not only did PUMApac.org completely ignore the Ledbetter passing, they actually gave Obama JACK ASS OF THE DAY!!!!

I wonder what the color of the sky is in their world.

stink, but January 29, 2009 at 8:12 pm

As if Barry needed any more help getting pussy.

grevillea January 29, 2009 at 8:56 pm

[re=232349]Rumproast[/re]: Um, UppityWoman, there is a big difference between paying women and men different amounts for the SAME work plus blocking women’s advancement, over decades, and the fact that Barry’s [temporary] campaign happened to employ more men at senior levels. But, yeah, you maintain the rage!

I miss W, at least everybody understood their place when he was in charge.

chascates January 29, 2009 at 11:28 pm

Neither the Flatulence site or the PUMettes have posted anything about the Ledbetter bill signing. Too busy putting country before party I guess. The PUMA Pac did give Dick Armey their clever Pig of the Day award but they continually refer to him as the Representative from Texas. Which he stopped being in the Year of our Hillary 2003.

Mr Blifil January 29, 2009 at 11:46 pm

Today is a triumph for Bed Wetter Rights.

Hostile Michigander January 30, 2009 at 6:55 am

Now Hillary can sue Congress for paying her less than the other cabinet secretaries!

TheIdeologicalDyslexic January 30, 2009 at 9:20 am

Wait; Didn’t Phyllis Schlafly lead all American women in the struggle to get the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) passed by Congress back in 1972? The ERA guarantees equal rights under the law for Americans regardless of sex, and I thought it made wage discrimination between men and women unconstitutional by law. So why the happy fuss by women’s rights groups lately about this Lilly Ledbetter Act getting passed which just gives chicks what they already had come payday?

Let me think… Yeah, Schlafly! The broad who was like the Peggy Noonan of her day, just not so obviously gay! Like Noonan she was a columnist and got on TV every chance she got; Like Noonan she was a conservative ideologue and loudmouth as well! Now, Schlafly felt that if she was writing as many columns as any male, and if they were written equally well, then she deserved to be paid just as well as jerks like Kristol, or Buchanan! After all, what mentally healthy woman would believe females shouldn’t be treated as fairly as a man, or even a minority?!? So that Chick- with the help of Billie Jean King, Patty Heart, and a few other broads of the day fought to get ERA passed- and… and… Oh! MY BAD!

Schlafly was like an Edith Bunker who could read or write when in print; On TV she was like a sober Betty Ford (before we knew Betty was wasted; that b**ch could par-tay!) with severe mental illness! Schlafly got women to protest ERA; That chick prevented it from even going to a vote in Congress back in 1972! Dames and Betties have paid for it ever since… but hey; The short-eyes did ask to be treated nastily. Literally.
“The ERA failed to gain ratification before its deadline and although it has been reintroduced in every Congress since 1982, public attention to it has greatly diminished.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equal_Rights_Amendment (So why haven’t these woman’s rights groups felt like bringing this subject up; Little embarrassed, maybe? Don’t worry. Daddy will make sure his little girls are all okay…)

Schadenfried January 30, 2009 at 12:27 pm

[re=232575]TheIdeologicalDyslexic[/re]: Well, Confluence and PUMApac won’t comment on that!

Trace January 30, 2009 at 10:50 pm

Eh. The crusty PUMAs will still bitch no matter what. It’s what they are and what they do. Obama’s their boogeyman, and any good he might allegedly, maybe, POSSIBLY do is done with secret evil intentions or as part of a grand conspiracy to circumsize every woman in the country because he’s evil and his heart is black. I mean, you know, black as night. I’m basically saying they are bitter idiots and those kinds of people are so easy and fun to mess with.

I just wish that horrid puke, JenniForHilarity would return. She was my favorite punching bag because A) she was horrible inside and out and B) she was roughly the shape and consistency of an actual punching bag. Well, no, she was much larger than that, but I’m trying to flatter her in an attempt to coax her out.
