Sadly, No! for the win!

So, does this mean he can still eat with his Republican friends? Get on it, The Hill.

Mr Blifil April 28, 2009 at 7:51 pm

But what about Larry Craig? Did Arlen ever sample the Super Tuber?

SmutBoffin April 28, 2009 at 7:53 pm

Well, what could he have done, back then? I mean, besides not putting on his “I am a GOP hack” t-shirt, calling for a new, constitutionally shaky law, and talking to the goddamn press about it?

Jukesgrrl April 28, 2009 at 7:54 pm

Specter never said anything he didn’t contradict four-and-a-half minutes later. He changes his mind more often than his underwear. You know, this isn’t the first time he’s been a Democrat.

And don’t forget how enthusiastically he supported Gonzales in the dismissal of the USAs. That was really putting your country first, Arlen. What do you think about Gonzales this week? How come you haven’t gotten one of your lawyer-pals in Philly to give him a job? Sorry. That’s not funny, but I’m still pissed off about that.

Brendan M. April 28, 2009 at 7:55 pm

Whatever. Primary challenger, please? Sestak? Anyone?

Brendan M. April 28, 2009 at 7:57 pm

How come you haven’t gotten one of your lawyer-pals in Philly to give him a job?

…’cause he’s Jewish? Or because he’s a lawyer?

voyetra8 April 28, 2009 at 7:59 pm

2001 ≠ 2009

Nanigonenuts April 28, 2009 at 7:59 pm

Hey everything changed after 9/11 remember. Jeffords switched in may 2001. so. there.

Min April 28, 2009 at 8:01 pm

No, no, no…that was because Jeffords chose to become a weinie Independent. Nobody likes those guys.

SmutBoffin April 28, 2009 at 8:02 pm

[re=302608]51dimes[/re]: I can see them all sitting around the lunch table, grumbling about the fare. “Whadja got today, Arlin?” “A big bag of dicks, again. You?” “The same, but in a nice bento box.”

SayItWithWookies April 28, 2009 at 8:36 pm

Well — any Democrats who courted him for his integrity are going to be very disappointed.

Origami April 28, 2009 at 8:45 pm

But with whom did Jeffords sup with after the switch?

smellyal8r April 28, 2009 at 8:52 pm

[re=302664]SayItWithWookies[/re]: If it’s just a numbers game, then this is what’s in vogue. The fact that the D’s gave him all his seniority allowed him to easily make this switch. Listening to Mitch McConnell on NPR mumble and shuffle his way through all this made it worthwhile. Now he’s OUR Arlen Specter. All hail. I actually think the Democrats need to change their name to the Moderates and just welcome everyone who wants out of the Churchy Party…

Alpha O. Mega April 28, 2009 at 9:00 pm

Arlen Specter is leaving the anti-slavery party? Why is Arlen Specter suddenly in favor of slavery?

Senator Bateman April 28, 2009 at 9:16 pm

What’s really hilarious about all this is how a handful of these people commenting on conservatives sites are bashing him for persecuting Christians….And I can see why…what with all the random acts of crucifixion and public stonings that you see everywhere you turn….and don’t forget about the Christian death camps that they’ve set up next to every starbucks…yep must be difficult…not to mention that a total of four presidents in the history of this country were not Christian….Jefferson, Lincoln, Andrew Johnson and JFK…or as I like to call them, the good ones…and Andrew Johnson….fucking JFK, the damn commie Catholic bigot.

rocktonsammy April 28, 2009 at 9:24 pm

Would it have killed him to just be an independent?

Greedy JACK ASS.

ElephantGun April 28, 2009 at 10:03 pm

This is called:

If I was a Republican.

http://www.youtube.com/user/0InfernalMachine0

Arlen must have watched it.

I never thought they would fall apart this hard.

Blender April 28, 2009 at 10:08 pm

Some dimwitted asshats over at Kos seem to think that Specter switched parties for some other reason than saving his own butt.

Gonna have to go over there and kick their unicorn.

DangerousLiberal April 28, 2009 at 10:43 pm

[re=302614]Jukesgrrl[/re]: All true. I see Spector as another warm body that makes the D’s proportion of seats in committees just that much bigger. Which isn’t much. The dude is a hypocrite, but he’s our hyocrite now.

[re=302709]Blender[/re]: WTF are they smoking? There’s only three reasons why Magick Bullet Boy would switch parties, and they all involve saving his ass. But a DINO beats a RINO any day.

Now, when does Vinegar Joe switch to the D party? Maybe the Rs can have in in a straight up trade with Olympia Snow.

WadISay April 28, 2009 at 11:23 pm

Q: Senator Specter, what will you miss most about being a Republican?
A: Mentoring the Boy Scouts.

qaf April 28, 2009 at 11:26 pm

Goddam, is Sadly No still around? I thought for sure it’d be all-Mikey, all the time by now.

[re=302614]Jukesgrrl[/re]: Gonzalez in Philly: DO.NOT.WANT!!!

slowhansolo April 29, 2009 at 12:44 am

[re=302673]smellyal8r[/re]: See, that’s what’s brilliant about this development: The Republicans in Franklin County at least are split, with two separate names and organizations, one quietly moderate, the other not so much.

I think this happened, oh, I don’t know, around about November. And now ole cagey Arlen further muddies the waters.

He is an Agent of Chaos.

Heq April 29, 2009 at 2:45 am

Man, I can already see the story in the future.
“Spector hung out to dry by Reid on .”

Add to that this’s gonna put huge pressure on the dems to put forth bills that pass with a 60+, so they can’t dodge down on a lot of reforms they don’t actually want to do.

I mean, does anyone really want to take on the teacher’s union or try to reform healthcare or tort law? Yea gods.

If the dems don’t clear the decks in the primary they’ll be seen as having broken their word, which means Specter is now the leftmost butress available for that seat, and I think this sorta shit makes him way more vulnerable in the primary.

This may turn out to be a very bad deal for the dems, especially given they allowed him to keep his seniority.

prophet1195 April 29, 2009 at 9:48 am

Sean Hannity thinks Arlen has a black daughter… Wanda Sykes!

So says Rush Limbaugh’s son, Chris Rock.

Ahhh, nevermind. Clinton’s daughter, Oprah with figger it all out.

The-Gentle-Art April 29, 2009 at 6:08 pm

Does that really surprise anyone? Politicians, regardless of party are weasels. I think Pennsylvania Democrats have a lot of vetting to do before they pass on other, more progressive candidates, for this re-tread.

Where he stands on the issues?
