  • REAL NICE FOLKS AT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH: “The Catholic Archdiocese of Washington said Wednesday that it will be unable to continue the social service programs it runs for the District if the city doesn’t change a proposed same-sex marriage law, a threat that could affect tens of thousands of people the church helps with adoption, homelessness and health care.” Time for Bart Stupak to write another amendment under Home Rule, this one sending all local homosexuals to Oklahoma. So, Father, should I just kneel here in my altar boy cassock with my eyes closed?

freakishlystrong November 12, 2009 at 3:40 pm

Yeah, I see the point here. It’s OK to Go Rogue on alter boys, as long as you’ve no intention of marrying them.

Snarkalicious November 12, 2009 at 3:40 pm

Trying to shift policy by threatening to withold humanitarian aid? Who would do such a thing?

freakishlystrong November 12, 2009 at 3:41 pm

“altar”. Sweet Jesus, I’m an idiot.

Monsieur Grumpe November 12, 2009 at 3:42 pm

Just like Jesus would do.
If he were a total asshole.

thefrontpage November 12, 2009 at 3:42 pm

That’s the religious spirit–deny money for those who are less needy!

What a great public relations move!

Congrats to the church’s p.r. folks–what a great move! You deserve some “going rogue” time with some local pastors for that move!

Meanwhile, the Red Cross has announced that it won’t deal with blood donations in the District, several shelters said they’re going to stop accepting any more people, and free health clinics said they’re fed up and they’re all moving to P.G. County.

the problem child November 12, 2009 at 3:42 pm

“After the vote, the archdiocese sent out a statement accusing the council of ignoring the right of religious freedom.” How is it freedom of religion to discriminate in providing social services? If you contract with a government to do a job, do the job you contracted to do. If you can’t, expect to get sued.

Extemporanus November 12, 2009 at 3:43 pm

Ohhhklahomo, where the sin cums seepin’ down the taint!

snideinplainsight November 12, 2009 at 3:44 pm

Hey, who is running the Catholic church these days, anyways? Because I talk to God all the time, and, funny thing, she never mentions anything about withholding social services as a political prod. At least not to me.

Formerly Known as KevoTron November 12, 2009 at 3:46 pm

Fuck those people two times. How do you spin something so blatantly homophobic? “Errr…. the gays are marrying and therefor we cannot help the homeless.” Sure, makes sense to me. Well, about as much sense as the Catholic Church makes in general.

Lascauxcaveman November 12, 2009 at 3:47 pm

I think it was Pope JP2 that mused (a few years before Jesus belatedly called him home) that the Catholic Church was going to remain ideologically ‘pure’ rather than succumb to the needs of modern worshippers, and if that means a smaller headcount in the pews, then so be it, by golly.

This would be a pretty good example of that.

Texan Bulldoggette November 12, 2009 at 3:47 pm

“sending all local homosexuals to Oklahoma.” Yeah & maybe they can show Inhofe and Coburn that an asshole is not just for talking out of.

glamourdammerung November 12, 2009 at 3:48 pm

[re=457157]Snarkalicious[/re]: “Trying to shift policy by threatening to withold humanitarian aid? Who would do such a thing?”

The Catholic Church.

So, about those tax exemptions that are based on the group not playing politics…

snideinplainsight November 12, 2009 at 3:48 pm

[re=457161]Monsieur Grumpe[/re]: Bravo on your authoritative use of the subjunctive! It’s as if I were writing it myself!

FlownOver November 12, 2009 at 3:48 pm

Give the archdiocese a break. It’s gotta be tough these days competing against the C Street Brotherhood for control of the government.

Clever_Sobriquet November 12, 2009 at 3:48 pm

Apparently, God is no longer Love.

Young male transexuals always seem to get the shaft.

“The issue here is they are using public funds, and to allow people to discriminate with public money is unacceptable,” Rosenstein said.

Now there’s some change I can believe in (even though I know it’s not Obama’s doing). Reminds me of when Dubya created the Office of Faith-Based Initiatives, and the first thing the Salvation Army did was ask to discriminate against gays. “Sure thing,” was the cheerful response. So welcome to the 21st Century, beeyotches — oh and save up some money for to pay your taxes with, too.

Aflac Shrugged November 12, 2009 at 3:52 pm

In the D.C. Archbishop’s Bible, “Suffer the little children unto me” comes with an asterisk next to it.

Swing for their knees, Fenty.

DP November 12, 2009 at 3:55 pm

If the Catholics and these other religiousoti really want to have such a direct say in public policy, maybe it’s time for them to pony up. Cancel the tax exempt status, get a tax assessor over to the basilica and send these pious mofos a f***ing bill.

jetjaguar November 12, 2009 at 3:55 pm

Tough talk from an organization with leaders of whom wear fancy dresses.

Jukesgrrl November 12, 2009 at 3:58 pm

[re=457176]glamourdammerung[/re]: “So, about those tax exemptions that are based on the group not playing politics…” Absofuckinlutely!!!!!!!!!!!! (It could probably get California out of bankruptcy, too.)

Furthermore: Faith-based Initiatives. The biggest unchallenged insult to the Constitution in my lifetime.

chascates November 12, 2009 at 3:59 pm

Start taxing church property and demand accounting of donations.

Joshua Norton November 12, 2009 at 3:59 pm

They tried to pull the same crap in San Francisco. Now they’re suing the SF Board of Supervisors for passing a bill calling them out on their bigotry.

DustBowlBlues November 12, 2009 at 4:03 pm

Definitely send them to Oklahoma then register them to vote immediately upon arrival.

left_behind_n_lovin_it November 12, 2009 at 4:04 pm

Let the Episcopalians run it. They love Teh Ghey and their bishop in DC plays drums for an R&B cover band.

bobwurst November 12, 2009 at 4:05 pm

What they lose in catholics with a conscience, they’ll gain in homopobic episcopalians!

Cicada November 12, 2009 at 4:06 pm

Bigotry > humanity. Awesome. I knew there was a reason I’m an atheist.

ignatius_reilly November 12, 2009 at 4:11 pm

[re=457199]Joshua Norton[/re]: What is this bill you speak of?

finallyhappy November 12, 2009 at 4:12 pm

It is better than having to say they have no money because of all the lawsuits they had to pay off from priests who molested children- this way they try to make it sound like it is a religious, albeit crappy, reason. Didn’t the Boston Archdiocese have to declare bankruptcy?

JMP November 12, 2009 at 4:12 pm

“After the vote, the archdiocese sent out a statement accusing the council of ignoring the right of religious freedom. Gibbs said Wednesday that without Alexander’s amendment and other proposed changes, the measure has too narrow an exemption. She said religious groups that receive city funds would be required to give same-sex couples medical benefits, open adoptions to same-sex couples and rent a church hall to a support group for lesbian couples. ”

Um, yeah, that’s kind of the point. It’s called a non-discrimination bill because it’s supposed to prevent bigoted fucks like you from, you know, discriminating. Your discrimination isn’t somehow magically OK just because you say a stupid old book tells you to do it; hell, the same claim was made by segregationists back in the day, and slaveholders before them.

The Little Rock November 12, 2009 at 4:13 pm

This is an appropriate post as any to finally ask if anyone else laughs when looking at the Hayden-Harnett ad. She tweaking her nips, right?

takes12no1 November 12, 2009 at 4:13 pm

yeah and keep those fucks out of my health care to. and I bet they were the “friend” whom Sarah Palin got the word that Obama was taking “in God we trust” off of all new U.S. coins. They have been continuously wrong for thousands of years. Why stop now.

earnestcivilservant November 12, 2009 at 4:16 pm

Faith-based initiatives: pray for the economy to improve.

Naked Bunny with a Whip November 12, 2009 at 4:18 pm

On the plus side, now that the Catholic Church is voluntarily relinquishing their tax exempt status by openly trying to influence government policy, there will be a lot of money flowing into the secular services.

Wait, they get the keep their exempt status? What the fuck?

Zadig November 12, 2009 at 4:20 pm

So they’re worried that they might have to extend employment benefits to homosexual couples after the legislation? No worries! After this little press release, I can’t see how any gays would want to be a MEMBER of the Catholic Church, much less WORK for them.

Click November 12, 2009 at 4:24 pm

I’d love to put all those fuckers aboard a US Plane that’s headed right into the ground at full speed. Let’s Roll!

[re=457240]Zadig[/re]: Of course hey still will; the non-pedophilic priests all work for the Church. Now, I can’t see any non-closeted gays working for them.

Catholic Church meant to say: If Gays feel more accepted by society, they are much less likely to become priests, or the Pope. Remember, Catholicism® Runs on Homophobia and Sexual Repression!™

queeraselvis v 2.0 November 12, 2009 at 4:47 pm

“If they find living under our laws so oppressive that they can no longer take city resources, the city will have to find an alternative partner to step in to fill the shoes,” Catania said.

What Catania meant to say was, “Yo, Popey McAcolytefucker, it’s time for you to pitch those tacky-ass last season Prada pumps and slip on the ruby slippers, you big screaming nancy.”

chascates November 12, 2009 at 4:49 pm

http://blog.au.org/2009/11/12/bishops-bluff-dc-officials-should-reject-church-threat-over-tax-funding/:

Catholic Charities seems to want tax funds with no strings attached. The Post reported that from 2006 through 2008, Catholic Charities received about $8.2 million in city contracts to provide various services. The city is now asking them to abide by some reasonable anti-discrimination laws, laws that in my view they should have been following all along.

Mr Blifil November 12, 2009 at 5:07 pm

Withhold services? How lame is that? Just cold start damning motherfuckers to eternal hell and watch the shit start to fly! I’m told that burning in hell does not feel good.

snideinplainsight November 12, 2009 at 5:12 pm

OK well then the city should start withholding its services (firefighting, policing, water and sewer, power) from the Church then. We’ll see who’s hand God has favored, pretty quickly I imagine.

JSDC007 November 12, 2009 at 5:15 pm

DC will now ship all its homeless to Bart Stupak’s district.

Shipping homeless to Stupak’s district on chartered buses: $100,000.

Look on Catholic Charities’ face: priceless.

Doglessliberal November 12, 2009 at 5:24 pm

I read this in the paper this morning and had to reread it because I had trouble believing even the Catholic church would do this. “If gays can marry, then fuck the homeless. Let ‘em starve and freeze to death” So classy, so in keeping with the Christian spirit and mission. I missed the “Jesus=Hate” chapter and verse, I guess.

Extemporanus November 12, 2009 at 5:31 pm

SAVE A HOBO…EAT A HOMO!

Atlas Spanked November 12, 2009 at 6:09 pm

Holding orphans and the homeless hostage just to keep burning the gheys.
(Not to mention pregnant women). Stay classy pope-kissers.

God bless Martin Luther.

coolcatdaddy November 12, 2009 at 6:28 pm

You know, the city could contract with someone else to provide these services. Just sayin’….

As second cousin of the disgraced former Cardinal of Boston, I feel qualified to ask:

If they’re only preachin’, bitchin’ & politickin’ and not doing good works, shouldn’t they lose their tax-exemption?

Zadig November 12, 2009 at 8:36 pm

[re=457255]JMP[/re]: Well of course. I should have mentioned that self-hating gays were an exception, but they’re still not a problem for Catholics, because they’re in no danger of getting married. Indeed, the bulk of such Catholics took a vow to that effect.

ivenson November 12, 2009 at 9:33 pm

I can’t think of anything that will mock these shit fucks more than their own history (distant and recent). Maybe we can get the scientologists to take over some humanitarian causes if we promise we will only nominate clears to the supreme court from now on.

I know you meant this rhetorically, but I feel that I have to reply: every damned despotic regime the world over.

I never knew that the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington was so conservative. They’ve never try and pull that shit up here in Detroit.
