  • MARK SANFORD WILL NOT GET IMPEACHED FOR SEXING: “A House panel has voted against a resolution impeaching Gov. Mark Sanford for abandoning his duties and abuse of power, all but closing the door on lawmakers removing Sanford from office.” Good. Sanford is terrible but shouldn’t be impeached or forced to resign for having a very comical affair. And liberals shouldn’t say “no no, it’s because he used state funds for his trip!” because that sounds an awful lot like, “no no, it’s because he lied about his affair before a grand jury!” [The State]

Did Mrs. Mark file for divorce? I am hoping for something nice like that for Chanukah this year.

Plus the potential for future comedic events is much greater if he stays in office. So right on, Jim.

memzilla December 9, 2009 at 4:42 pm

For the rest of eternity, nothing negative can now ever be said against Bill Clinton in the entire state of South Race-o-lina.

progressiveinga December 9, 2009 at 4:42 pm

The luv guv gets to stay! Yay!

Just a good ole boy.

RoscoePColtraine December 9, 2009 at 4:44 pm

What’d you expect them to do? It was either the adulterer or the fag.

Gregoire December 9, 2009 at 4:49 pm

Besides, isn’t he more fun to have in office anyway? Let the good folks South Carolina suffer slowly.

SlouchingTowardsWasilla December 9, 2009 at 4:52 pm

[re=475037]memzilla[/re]: Oh, they’ll still say it. And they’ll keep sayin’ it until they get caught with their drawers around their ankles.

germansteel December 9, 2009 at 4:52 pm

No, no, it’s because he wrote those god-awful, infantile love letters that any self respecting high school kid would die of shame of, if he was accused of sending them.

pampl December 9, 2009 at 4:54 pm

Eh, Clinton’s perjury was during testimony he should have never had to make; Sanford was going to be spending that money on his firecracker regardless.

Plus being a liberal doesn’t necessarily mean being opposed to the Clinton sideshow

JMP December 9, 2009 at 4:54 pm

Shouldn’t they at least make plans for the next time he vanishes up the Appalachian trail, though?

Brendan M. December 9, 2009 at 4:55 pm

Okay, I agree that he shouldn’t be impeached for boning – even if it was a foreigner – and the misuse of state funds for travel is relatively minor offense worthy of censure at most, but what about all that pathetic emo shit?

Yay! Keep that guy around to show how well Republicans clean house!

Suds McKenzie December 9, 2009 at 5:00 pm

So he can be John McCain’s VP pick now?

shadowMark December 9, 2009 at 5:00 pm

Jim is just thinking of Jenny, the poor woman has suffered so much already, bless his heart.

Everyone into the J’Accuzzi!

SayItWithWookies December 9, 2009 at 5:05 pm

I guess they decided that being a hopelessly noodle-brained dipshit for life was punishment enough.

Guppy06 December 9, 2009 at 5:06 pm

How about “Sanford should be impeached for leaving the National Guard (or whatever portion of it wasn’t in Iraq) rudderless during hurricane season?” When Bill was getting it wet, his minions at least knew where he was if Yeltsin decided to nuke us.

Who’s watching South Carolina’s nuclear arsenal?

rev_matt_y December 9, 2009 at 5:06 pm

I’m OK with the affair (that’s an issue between him, his wife, and his mistress), I’m OK with the misuse of funds (if the AG decides not to prosecute that’s something the voters should take care of), I’m even OK with the emo love letters. But being stupid enough to WRITE THE LETTERS IN THE FIRST PLACE? “Hmmm, I’m thinking of breaking the law and my marriage vows, I’d best create a substantial repository of easily retrievable and copyable evidence that can be used against me in future legal proceedings.”

He should be fired for being dumb.

WadISay December 9, 2009 at 5:07 pm

David wasn’t impeached over the Bathsheba thing, either.

itgetter December 9, 2009 at 5:08 pm

I’m cool with this.

I’m a teacher. If I ran off to cheat on my husband and lied to my employer, leaving behind a room full of kids wondering where the heck I went, I would probably just be made fun of on late night talk shows but face no significant professional consequences.

petehammer December 9, 2009 at 5:11 pm

[re=475075]itgetter[/re]: I think “room full of kids” adequately describes South Carolina.

Yes! Feigned indignation to score political points is bullshit. I’d much rather just continue to make fun of him, for being a teary eyed shitsack.

zhubajie December 9, 2009 at 5:25 pm

I feel sorry for Ms Argentina. Has he dumped her completely? He should just leave the USA altogether, immigrate to Argentina, marry the Other Woman.

zhubajie December 9, 2009 at 5:38 pm

[re=475069]Guppy06[/re]: South Carolina is likely to get an important phone call from Yeltsin?

lochnessmonster December 9, 2009 at 5:43 pm

They need a little backbone like the Illinois legislators had with Blago.

I’m sorry, explain again why did we have to lose the aggressive Wall Street pissing off services of one Eliot Spitzer again?

Fuck republicans and their fucking double fucking standards. Fuck them all with an abandoned christmas tree.

I_KILL_ZOMBIES_ALSO December 9, 2009 at 6:10 pm

You know what, though? I’d be almost willing to give this dipshit a pass. I mean, he just found a, ahem, “soul mate”. Compared to blackening eyes and banging underage boys, this is downright chaste and innocent for the GOP.

I_KILL_ZOMBIES_ALSO December 9, 2009 at 6:11 pm

I mean, let’s just get it over with. Slogan: “The NEW GOP: We’ll stick our dicks in anything.”

Dude, are you serious? He’s waaaay more useful to us in office than in Argentina dressed up as a gaucho and porking his Mistress dressed up as Evita Peron.

Really, there seems to be some kind of self-destructive desire on the part of A LOT of people to put the details of their shameful/criminal activities.

Vartan84 December 9, 2009 at 10:23 pm

So what does this mean for the French guy?

Mr Blifil December 9, 2009 at 10:54 pm

Sometimes shit goes both ways. Looks like Sanford knew some explosive (in the poop sense) stuff about certain other people, so as in the case of the Credit Default Swaps, the major players got together and said, “let’s find a workable solution here…”

Carolina December 9, 2009 at 11:06 pm

Liberals aren’t the ones who have been calling for his impeachment and/or public disembowelment on the State House grounds. South Carolina’s liberals have never had any faith in him; we have lost nothing. Those snorts and whimpers of outrage are coming from his former friends in the far right wing of the SC Republican Party, who have lost their sad little poster boy for libertarian ideals.

Jim, you are my favorite ginger, but no. One of those things does not cost me money…er, well actually both grand juries cost money….but the using state funds thing costs more. And I need government cheese. Well, not South Carolina’s but the principle, ya know…Also! Eliot Spitzer had to resign and a blind black dude became Governor. Remember that, South Carolina. Makes your WHITE gay Frenchman look a little better, now don’t it?

You’re probably right. You’re probably right because you probably have tenure. Heh yo!

Rajul December 10, 2009 at 7:23 am

Putting aside Sanford’s hypocrisy (he voted to impeach Clinton as a Congressman), I think, actually, there is a difference between doing the antithesis of something germane to public office (abandoning your role as a steward of public money) and doing exactly what everyone else would do after getting a blowjob from someone not your wife (denying it). Bonus points to me for using three parentheticals in one sentence.
