  • LETTING BUSH TAX CUTS EXPIRE WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE: Democrats are now going to struggle like the dickens to let old tax cuts on rich people expire, an extremely popular political move: “Centrists and liberal Democrats told The Hill they support allowing President Bush’s tax cuts on those making more than $250,000 to expire, but said leaders must win public support by portraying the tax increase as reducing the nation’s record budget deficit.” Uh oh… win public support of this measure the public already supports by “portraying” it as exactly what it is? Sounds like Mexican Socialism. [The Hill]

I’m sorry, I missed what you said. I was busy throwing another rich guy in the fireplace because I can’t afford my utilities.

Jim89048 February 8, 2010 at 4:16 pm

At this point it will be easier to get all the lower/middle class people who just got their first tax cut ever last year to give up that tax cut, for Freedom!

AnnieGetYourFun February 8, 2010 at 4:16 pm

There is simple no way to convince the majority of Americans that they will not make 250k in the next year because you just never fucking know.

Tax increase! Tax increase! OMG it’s the end of the world! The top rate’ll go back to 38%! The inheritance tax on huge fortunes will come back! Capital gains’ll go back to 20% or whatever the fuck it was before Phil Gramm and Chimpy impoverished us.

Tax for those working minimum wage will remain at 15.5%. That seems fair, to Republans.

SayItWithWookies February 8, 2010 at 4:19 pm

Nothing has to happen in order for the Dubya tax cuts for the rich to expire. You’d think the Democrats would have that action plan down pat by now.

Buttery1000 February 8, 2010 at 4:27 pm

I’m so worried. Who’s going to protect poor, unrepresented wealthy? Someone should do something.

slappypaddy February 8, 2010 at 4:29 pm

we are so fucked. when the majority party can’t accomplish what the majority of the public want and which furthermore is the prudent thing to do, and can’t accomplish this simply by doing nothing, which is all they have to to, then we are fucked. QED

WarAndG February 8, 2010 at 4:30 pm

Only way to get this economy to grow is to keep borrowing for war and cutting taxes for the rich you silly libtards.

It worked for last hero in the White House…except for the final few months he was in office and then the economy got mad…because it knew we were going to hire a Kenyan, Muslin who’s a lot like socialist Hitler.

JMP February 8, 2010 at 4:39 pm

Meanwhile, many of those who make over $250,000 a year will continue to insist that they’re not really rich, because hey they only have one vacation house and one luxury car for every person, and the New York Times will continue to run profiles on how hard life is for the rich-but-not-super-rich and how sad paying a little bit more in taxes will make them.

Hooray For Anything February 8, 2010 at 4:41 pm

I feel sorry for the Democrats on this on as the only case they have are lots of truths and facts and where has that gotten anyone?

Hey, a million dollars ain’t a lot of money, moo, moo, baby.

slappypaddy February 8, 2010 at 4:55 pm

[re=509543]WarAndG[/re]: hitler fixed germany’s economy by preparing for war. but then he fucked up by actually going to war, misunderstanding and underestimating his opponents, and letting germany’s peacetime civilian economy linger into the fourth year of war. by that time the bombs were raining down on german cities and it was too fucking late.

“too fucking late,” people — that’s a phrase to keep in mind. rumor has it that’s god’s slogan for the 21st century. but it’s just a rumor. you didn’t hear it from me, i don’t know shit.

Come here a minute February 8, 2010 at 5:00 pm

Since a million dollars isn’t really all that much (according to Michael Steele), there’s not really all that much difference between taxing the average shlub and someone that makes ten times the median wage.

Posts like these are why I love Wonkette. Plus it’s nice to support a blog that let’s retarded people contribute, especially since Sarah Palin decided Rush could hunt retarded people for sport.

elburrito February 8, 2010 at 5:13 pm

Expiring taxes? Don’t you mean the largest tax INCREASE in human history? Just like the Nazis or something? Another narrative lost for Obama.

gurukalehuru February 8, 2010 at 5:14 pm

Here’s the way it should work. Let x represent the amount of money the U.S. government needs to pay all it’s employees, fix the infrastructure, pay off the national debt and make things work the way they should.
Divide x by the number of insanely rich motherfuckers. Makes over 500k a year or drives a Hummer, I don’t really care what criteria we use.
That’s how much they all have to pay in taxes.

Servo February 8, 2010 at 5:30 pm

[re=509554]JMP[/re]:
Are you kidding? $250k is still within the humble middle class, donchya know? The backbone of the economy. He’s Joe the Plumber, Frankie the Roofer, Jimmy the Septic Sucker. C’mon! They’re the real Merikins. Why should they have to spread their hard-earned wealth to the crackheads?

[re=509599]elburrito[/re]:
…in human history? FAIL.

EdFlinstone February 8, 2010 at 5:57 pm

[re=509583]Come here a minute[/re]: Its not only Steele, Rush also said 250k isnt that much. Remember Charlie Gibson in the debates whose heart bled for the 2 college professors trying to scrape by on 250k. And more recently Kiran Chetry said this talking to hopey’s budget director:

“You also talk about letting taxes expire for families that make over $250,000. Some would argue that in some parts of the country that is middle class”. Nice use of the “some would argue”, guess she had a flashback to her FoxNews days. Jeez I wonder what qualifies as poor and poverty in their world.

All I know is, if those spoiled princesses on my super sweet 16, go into hissy fit when they have to settle for the Mercedes SLK roadster instead of the SL model, then America wins.

american mutt February 8, 2010 at 6:01 pm

Oh, America. You never cease to disappoint me.

Jim89048 February 8, 2010 at 6:05 pm

[re=509583]Come here a minute[/re]: According to those figures, I was actually above average for the last five and a half years of my working career. The rest of my life, I was barely median. Why does America hate ME?

Pandy February 8, 2010 at 7:15 pm

[re=509554]JMP[/re]: But you don’t understand….that rich man’s gonna give me a job when he saves all that munny from that tax cut….right?

Advocatus_Diaboli February 8, 2010 at 8:47 pm

I promise to create jobs with my tax cut*

*if by “jobs” you mean a generous tip** for my bartender

**if by generous you mean $0.75.

AddHomonym February 8, 2010 at 8:58 pm

Have things hit a new low regarding Democrats inability to message anything and Republicans gleeful hostility (which is working!) to everything, or do I just need more/less booze?

donner_froh February 8, 2010 at 10:29 pm

Rich people create jobs. Super rich people create super jobs. Unless they have to pay a penny more in taxes than Pedro the dishwasher then they don’t have enough munnies to create jobs.

Goddamn ball-less cocksuckers

AxmxZ February 9, 2010 at 12:24 am

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but WHY THE FUCK ARE MY TAXES SO LOW??!!

Lake Affected February 9, 2010 at 7:46 am

Also, how is some dead person with piles of dead-guy money going to create jobs?

Larry McAwful February 9, 2010 at 8:46 am

I want my government to be just like reg’lar folks. That means I want it to have too little income and crippling debt, just like most reg’lar folks. If we can’t get the upper income tax bracket down to 15%, then we are all communists.

BlueStateLibtard February 9, 2010 at 10:21 am

Doesn’t the estate tax cut expire this year today? So if you’re expecting a big inheritance from some rich old relative, better come up with some plans now…

Lake Affected February 9, 2010 at 11:26 pm

[re=509829]BlueStateLibtard[/re]: At 12:01 a.m. on January 1, 2010, George Bush reached out a kindly hand from Crawford and repealed the estate tax for his fellow real Americans who are decedents with gross estates in excess of $3.5 million ($7 million for surviving spouses). But at that same time next year, Barack Obama will reimpose that estate tax in its oppressive Clinton-era form. That’s how the Bush tax cuts work–Bush giveth, and his unlucky successor taketh away.
