Al Gore: Back! And beloved! Suddenly warm, funny, likable, and ELECTABLE! The Un-Hillary! How does one get to be the Un-Hillary? By having been assigned all the same negatives by the same press over the same years, but then getting fat and growing a beard and generally not being Hillary! Also, by not being in the Senate anymore, the legislative body where people who once had a shot at being President go to shit all over that goal.
Anyway, the New York feature on him: Obviously good, a must-read, might make you like the guy again or for the first time, etc. But we can’t help but feel like calling Gore the new presumptive front-runner, while reassuring to liberals growing increasingly depressed over Hillary as presumptive front-runner, is still depressing. It’s like the Democratic party telling us for a year that Bud Ice is the absolute best they’ll be able to afford for the kegger, then expecting to get excited when they show up with PBR.
