Candidates, Please Drink At Home Until After Election Day

My Favorite Mormon - WonketteLet’s check in with Rep. Jim Gibbons of Nevada, who was about to become governor of the Silver State until something happened outside a Vegas steak/seafood restaurant and bar:

  • The Cocktail Waitress has not backed down from her charges that Gibbons assaulted her when she wouldn’t go back to his motel.
  • The bill for Gibbons’ “flirty and dirty” drunkfest was “over $300.”
  • Nevada voters are now asking questions like, “So why was Gibbons allegedly helping somebody so drunk they could hardly walk get behind the wheel of a truck?”
  • The slurring, cussing and weird laughter heard on The Cocktail Waitress’ 911 calls suggests the Gibbons threat was less than dire.
  • What the hell was Gibbons thinking, getting drunk with a bunch of women (and without his wife) three weeks before Election Day, in public?

  • Did he call her Sugar Tits?

  • Whatever. That pledge is so out of the Reagan playbook. You could say this 'humanizes' him, much like The Gipper's senility.

  • Bitch set him up, or did she? So far his constituents on our blog are going with answer:

The bitch set me up! (in the Marion Barry lying sort of way). You DCers can related to that one.

  • It sounds sketchy, but how do you "set up" a congressman who gladly gets drunk in public with a lotta ladies who aren't his wife, and then walks one of 'em to her truck, so she can drive through a farmer's market or whatever? Where was Sig? Somebody maybe set Gibbons up, but was it that hapless waitress? Seems like Gibbons was all too willing to set *himself* up.

  • I don't know if he did or didn't harass this woman and I don't actually care that much, he simply shouldn't have been in the situation in the first place and since he was stupid enough to be there it begs the question...do we want to keep electing idiots?

  • Gibbons came into my restaurant last month with a group of 12, sat for 2 hours... the bill was over $300.00 and he left me a measly ten spot. He's a crappy tipper too, so there.

  • Drink only with friends, and preferrably in a closed, private location where you allow only true "bredren" to view and enjoy that part of your life. Even then, you're still subject to accidental comments and remarks during outside conversations of those same friends, who enjoyed the party so much, they just feel they have to share it with someone...

I am learning that lesson now, and feel certain I won't be given another chance if I ever drink in public again - and I am only a GM of a resort. If I was to run for Governor, I would like to think I would be seriously smarter.

Up and until now, I have moved under the motto "everything in moderation, including moderation" but one needs to add to this that this goes only when one considers so very carefully the right location and environment.
