When two world leaders come together to, in the words of expert pooler Joseph Curl, celebrate “the power of freedom and democracy” by “pay[ing] tribute to a drug-addled sex addict who died on the toilet,” magic happens. Continuing our blanket coverage of the goofiest World Summit since Yalta, here are excerpts from today’s AF1 gaggle:

Q Did you hear the Prime Minister say anything this morning, like, I really want to go to the jungle room?

MR. SNOW: No, I haven’t, but I’m sure he’s anticipating it as eagerly as the rest of us are.

Q Is the President wearing anything Elvis-y?

MR. SNOW: No. Neither of them is wearing Elvis-y regalia. That has been only staffers who have been reduced to wearing bad sunglasses.

More Joseph Curl Pool Reports, Please

This morning’s White House pool report is a real gem — and it’s short, so we won’t even put it on a jump page. Here it is:

Pool Report #1 May 10, 2006

Orlando Ritz Carlton to Asociacion Borinquena de Florida Central Inc.

No news. No sightings of anyone because the press vans were queued far away from the limousines.

Pool gathered in the ritzy Board Room of the Ritz at 7:15 a.m., but the motorcade did not move until 9:04. In the meantime, President Bush did a roundtable interview in the hotel’s restaurant Norman’s with local newspapers, among them the Miami Herald, St. Petersburg Times, Palm Beach Post, Tampa Tribune and Orlando Sentinel.

Arrived at event site at 9:32, passing five protesters, two holding signs that said “Bush Step Down.” One gentleman made a hand gesture that could be interpreted as saying “Bush is No. 1,” but he used the wrong finger, so his message was unclear.

As we’ve said before, we love it when Joe Curl protests getting stuck with pool report duty by filing snarky, passive-aggressive reports.

(Random question: Wasn’t today supposed to be the Washington Examiner’s first day on pool report duty? Was there a switch, or has the Examiner been removed from the pool?)

Because He Does Care: Joseph Curl’s Remedial Pool Report

This afternoon we poked fun at the excuse for a pool report filed by Joseph Curl, who covers the White House for the sushi-subsidized Washington Times. We made Joe the following offer: “If you’d like to file an amended pool report, after attending remedial pool reporting class this afternoon, just email it to us, and we will disseminate.”

Perhaps Joe heard us — his next pool report reflects much more diligence than his last one. Although it’s still marked by a certain breezy insouciance, it lacks the “I don’t give a rat’s ass” tone of his last missive.

The White House Press Pool: Drowning in Boredom

Being a White House correspondent sounds like a great gig. Several former WH correspondents have gone on to that Valhalla for print journalism, television. And don’t forget their glamorous gala, the White House Correspondents Association dinner, taking place on Saturday, April 29. (Speaking of which: Word on the street is that invites to the Bloomberg after-party are out now. Are you on the list?)

Despite the perks and prestige, it seems that Joseph Curl of the Washington Times wants a transfer. How else to explain his passive-aggressive protest against the WH press pool? Check out his pool report, which is so short we don’t need to jump it:

President Bush, in a blue pin-striped suit and pale yellow tie, appeared briefly on the driveway with Ghana President Kufuor. POTUS, squinting into the sun, said: Blah blah blah “… Millennium Challenge Account.”

President Kufuor said: Blah blah blah “… AGOA” — but also: blah blah blah “… then there’s the TIFA, Trade and Investment Framework law.” As always, check the transcript for exact quotes.

After taking no questions, the two presidents walked up the driveway toward the residence. At one point, Bush put his arm around Kufuor. They walked under the side of the canopy and disappeared.

Bloggers often complain about how MSM writers lead cushy lives. But at least we don’t have to cover boring stuff, causing us to grow bitter and resentful. (Thank God that Dubai ports thing lasted only a few weeks.)
