We hadn’t intended to work the United 93 beat, but then we read Slate today:
That’s always been the subtextual spiritual narrative of media catastrophe coverage: terrible human tragedy, but something good always can be found in it to affirm faith and hope and make us feel better. Plucky, ordinary human beings find a way to rise above the disaster. Man must prevail. The human spirit is resilient, unconquerable. Did I mention there must be a pony?
9/11 is no different. Flight 93 has become 9/11’s pony.

i'm drawing a total blank on 1-3, and i'm not up for doing the research to find a punchline. i've got a joke about sodom just outside my grasp, but it's not coming to me.
where's the pony in the g-dub administration?
on the other hand, i run a movie theatre and i'm not looking forward to 'flight 93' at all. i may be proven wrong, but most serious films today just don't have the gravitas that they used to. 'midway' or 'tora tora tora' are films that just wouldn't get made today, and i don't think that's because the hollywood machine is more "mature" than it used to be.
besides, the tragedy crowds don't buy jack from the concession counter.
