Still Waiting
It’s the days when this job’s the easiest that it’s also the saddest. Seriously, a site named “eat crow dot org” and dedicated to clinging desperately to an unlucky guess in the face of all observable evidence could be beaten only by some hypothetical site of rabidly conservative amateurish web video called “Hot Air,” or something. But that would never exist. Right?

PLAMGEGATE: COUNTDOWN TO PARDONS
Karl Rove: Still maybe indicted. But maybe not. Hey, maybe we’ll find out this Friday afternoon. Or the following Friday afternoon. In any event: totally a done deal. Secret sources, etc. But maybe not.
Scooter Libby: As usual, screwed. By the CIA, according to the New York Daily News. Two agents say they told Scooter who Valerie Plame was, which doesn’t quite mesh with Scooter’s “Tim Russert, the bastard, told me everything” defense from back in the day when he still thought he could count on help from Team Bush.
And speaking of Rove, Truthout, having posted a non-retraction of their Rove story, now insists with even more certainty that “three independent sources” who are “in a position to know what they were talking about” confirmed that “attorneys for Karl Rove were handed an indictment either late in the night of May 12 or early in the morning of May 13.” Once again, it all sounds just plausible enough, and they’re smart enough not to include a time-frame for announcements or anything, so we’ve decided we’re just going to believe it, because why the hell not. This week, Wonkette is all about credulity.
We’re ready to eat crow, but every time we try we just get a 404.

Finally, New Media Iconoclasts Daring Enough to be Against Bloggers and the MSM
Dear “Eat Crow Dot Org,”
While we appreciate the spirited venom of your only two posts, castigating those “bloggers, forumists, and mainstream media (MSM) pundits” stupid enough to be skeptical of Jason Leopold’s thus-far unconfirmed story that HE AND ONLY HE KNOWS FOR SURE THAT KARL ROVE HAS BEEN INDICTED, the traditional period for crow-eating is, in fact, after one has been been proved wrong. As it is now Wednesday evening, and, thus far, Karl Rove does not seem to have been indicted, we find ourselves confused by the victorious tone of your new venture.
It is worth noting, for the record, that we believe a) that Karl Rove will be indicted eventually, probably soon, and b) that Jason Leopold no longer writes for Salon or Raw Story* because his anonymous sources have a habit of overselling their insider knowledge and a tradition of gun-jumping.
Yours,
Wonkette
P.S. Wonkette has EXCLUSIVELY LEARNED from our TOP SECRET SOURCES that Katherine Harris has LOST HER BID FOR THE FLORIDA SENATE. While her spokesperson denies it, we have a number of confidential sources in the Florida press who have confirmed it on background. While no one can say when it will be announced officially, we know ALL OF YOU WILL BE SORRY YOU DIDN’T BELIEVE US ONCE YOU READ IT IN YOUR SO-CALLED MSM.
Update: *Leopold insists that he no longer writes for Raw Story for monetary reasons, and that sounds just as likely as anything else. Nothing against the guy, we just think this story is still in the wishful thinking phase.

Karl Rove Indicted, Everyone With a Blog to Get Their Own Unicorn
Dearest Readers:
“Truthout” is not quite the most trusted news source in our bloglines list. So, while they did announce on Saturday that Karl Rove has been indicted, we’re not particularly inclined to believe it, especially as it is now Monday, and not even Raw Story has picked it up. Sorry, better luck with your next bout of wishful (if slightly likely) speculation.
