Air Happenings, Hyperactive Thursdays, and One Hot Rebel
Friday, August 7: While it may not be nearly as exciting as theAir Sex Finals that were held in DC this past June, the US Air Guitar Championships at the 9: 30 Club tonight should still be an entertaining evening. Watch people awkwardly strum their stomachs for a chance to be crowned Champion and the opportunity to travel to Finland to participate in the World Championship. 8PM. $20. [ 9: 30 Club ]
Friday, August 7: The Wolf Trap Opera Company and the National Symphony Orchestra are performing a edgy, hipster-y version of the opera,La Boheme.Basically, it's RENT, but it's still an Opera and not a Broadway Musical. Regardless, it should be a spectacular performance. Tickets are $10-$60. [ Wolf Trap ]
Friday, August 8: You know you watched, enjoyed and sent around Remy Munasifi'sode to Arlington --scary, thug infested town that it is -- and on Saturday you have the chance to meet this DC quasi-celebrity. D.C. Impulse is hosting a party in his honor at the K Street Lounge. Doors open at 10PM and there will be free drinks for women until midnight. And of course, his rap will be on repeat all night long. Free until midnight for men, 1AM for girls. $20 after. [ D.C. Impulse ]
Monday, August 10: Try to stay calm, but Monday is the last night of Screen on the Green. It has been a moderately successful endeavor -- semi crowded, okay choice of movies, and would someone please turn the volume up? -- but we're looking forward to the last film,Rebel Without A Cause. As we learned, life without SOTG is just not worth living, so we highly recommended going, and getting there early because it's going to be packed. [ Screen on the Green ]
Thursday, August 13: The Phillips Collection has found that by combining art, food, film, music and drinks, DCers will flock to the museum. As part of their Phillips After 5 series, next Thursday from 5PM-8: 30PM you can enjoy food from Fresh Farm Markets, music from DJ Danny Harris of Fatback D.C., the FilmThe Diving Bell and the Butterfly about a man who after suffering a stroke can only communicate by blinking with his left eyelid (!!!), as well as a gallery talk and peach sangria and local beer tasting. Quite a fantastic evening, and it repeats with a different line up Thursdays through September 3. $12, and the bar is cash only. [ Phillips After 5 ]
