The Washington DC Improv comedy club held its 12th annual "Funniest Celebrity in Washington" fundraiser last night, where politicians, TV personalities, local cultural aesthetes and ex-Wonkette editors (Mary Cox or whatever, as well as Pareene this year) give stand-up comedy an awkward try. WTF ARLEN SPECTER WON SECOND IN A COMEDY CONTEST??
In the same voice he usually uses to question Alberto Gonzalez about secret torture e-mails, Specter tells a few jokes about Bob Dole's penis and Elizabeth Dole's on-again, off-again interest in it. He also tackles Dan Quayle -- has there been a Dan Quayle joke in the last 15 years? -- and how he thought "harass" was two words. Ooh ooh, next time tell that one about how you left a voicemail on Larry Craig's machine a month or two ago and told him he shouldn't commit to resigning despite his obvious ethics violation in pleading guilty to a crime and how it's weird because you're the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee!
