Celebrities Help Us Love America, Shakespeare and Cabaret

Sunday, April 25: A huge climate rally is taking place on the National Mall on Sunday, where celebrities including Sting, James Cameron, The Roots and Passion Pit will tell us how great it is that we have black president! They may also talk about how we can make our voice "heard" on climate change legislation, should you have something novel to say about it. The rally goes from noon to 6PM and supposedly you have to RSVP to attend this free event outside. [The Climate Rally]

  • Sunday, April 25: Happy 446th birthday William Shakespeare! He may be long dead, but so long as he's required reading (and great) we may as well celebrate him with some birthday cake, dancers, musicians, and performances of his work, which is exactly what the Folger Shakespeare Library is doing on Sunday. If that's not enough Shakespeare for you, the Library is also currently performing Hamlet. [Folger Shakespeare Library, Hamlet]
  • Monday, April 26: Famous fat Jew Harvey Fierstein will be, along with fellow Fiddler on the Roof cast members (the show is currently being performed at The National Theater,) performing an intimate cabaret Monday night at Town Danceboutique benefiting Broadway Cares, an organization that does good things for the world, we hope. 6:45PM, $20. [Town Danceboutique]
  • Tuesday, April 27: Things young professionals like: beer, The Onion, and cheap cultural activities. The Shakespeare Theatre Company has done an excellent job combining all three, as next Tuesday they are hosting a Young Professionals Night with The Onion and for this special Night, tickets to see The Liar and drink Magic Hat beer at a post-show reception are just $15.
