Dana Milbank Pretty Sure Glenn Beck Is Going To Stage a Coup
For some reason (publisher needed to go bankrupt for tax reasons?), somebody gave Dana Milbank a book deal. It's out today, and it's about Glenn Beck and entitled Tears of a Clown: Glenn Beck and the Tea Bagging of America, because Dana Milbank must want to be the next Ed Schultz or something. To drum up book sales and arrive at his rightful place on the New York Times bestseller list, Milbank went on the Huffington Post today to let us all know that Glenn Beck, with help from fellow traveler Orrin Hatch, is in charge of a secret Mormon conspiracy to take over the federal government. Thanks for the heads-up, bro!
In one of his first appearances on Fox News, Glenn Beck sent a coded message to the nation's six million Mormons -- or at least those Mormons who believe in what the Latter-day Saints call "the White Horse Prophecy."
"We are at the place where the Constitution hangs in the balance," Beck told Bill O'Reilly on November 14, 2008, just after President Obama's election. "I feel the Constitution is hanging in the balance right now, hanging by a thread unless the good Americans wake up."
The Constitution is hanging by a thread.
Yes, Glenn Beck sort of said that! Decode it for us, Dana! Take out your secret invisible ink spy pen and reveal what it says, Windtalker!
"When the Constitution of the United States hangs, as it were, upon a single thread, they will have to call for the 'Mormon' Elders to save it from utter destruction; and they will step forth and do it," Brigham Young, Smith's successor as head of the church, wrote in 1855.
On another day in 2008, Glenn Beck had KNOWN MORMON Orrin Hatch on his radio show, and also mentioned the Constitution was "hanging by a thread," this time as a secret signal to let Hatch know everything was in place for the Mormons to immediately wrest control of the U.S. government. Hatch responded in the affirmative.
So why has it taken two years for the Mormons to do this thing? Wouldn't they have done it already if it was such an urgent issue in 2008? Find out in Dana Milbank's next book, If I Write About Sarah Palin Now, Will This Book Get a Lot of Pageviews? He'll print out copies himself and sell them outside the Washington Post building if you want one. [Huffington Post]
