  • Dogs: DC is a city so focused on alcohol that even dogs have the opportunity to get inebriated five days a week. If you have a dog, or like petting strangers' dogs, there are tons of Doggie Happy Hours (also referred to as Yappy Hours) for you to choose from, and many of them offer pet themes drinks as well as goodies for the dogs. Some options include: the Dog Days of Summer Happy Hour Wednesdays at Hotel Helix; Canines and Corks at the Park Hyatt Washington (tonight is the last one); Doggie Happy Hour at the Hotel Monaco Alexandria on Tuesdays and Thursdays; and the Yappy Happy Hour at Larry's Lounge on Wednesdays. • Sunday, August 9: Another Independence Day celebration! Celebrate Ecuador's National Day this weekend at the Ecuadorian Festival sponsored by the Confraternidad Cultural Ecuatoriana. For those of you keeping tabs at home, this is in fact NOT Ecuador's Independence, that's in May. It’s actually Quito's Independence Day. The festival is FREE and features performances and authentic Ecuadorian food. 11AM-6PM [Arlington Arts]
  • Sunday, August 9: If you haven't yet spent a sunny afternoon at the Capitol Skyline Hotel Pool, drinking and feasting on a hamburger (or veggie burger) with Chef Spike, resident overachiever, do so this Sunday. Now that they serve veggie burgers, there's no excuse not to go, only this means you carnivores no longer get to eat your sad-veggie friend's hamburgers. 12PM-6PM, $10. [Capitol Skyline Hotel]
  • Sunday, August 9: Hipsters have taken a lot of hits lately, but fret not, liking Target does not mean that you can't enjoy Wonderland Ballrooms' 5th anniversary bash. Enjoy $2 Yuengling beers, live music, and happy hour specials from 5PM to close. [Wonderland Ballroom]
  • Food to Look Forward To: Smoothie King, refreshing, moderately healthy smoothies, just opened at the vendor hut near the entrance to the movie theater in Chinatown. Also, the restaurant New Heights in Adams Morgan recently opened a ground-floor cafe from which you can indulge in all the people watching you want while eating innovative Mediterranean food.
