Even with the global war on terror diverting resources, the Coast Guard is seizing more cocaine than ever. Why?
The drug smugglers have gotten careless. "They're just wicked sloppy now, that's all it is," said one official, adding that Colombian drug cartels have in recent years been taken over by younger, more flagrant, bosses, compared with their predecessors in the 1980s.
More flagrant than Tony Montana? Sounds like it's time for a sequel. And maybe also a sequel to the Minuteman Project, as Coast Guard officials are suggesting they could catch even more smugglers if they had the resources to act on all the intelligence they get.
