How our heart skipped to read that Maureen Dowd was "herewith resigning as a member of the liberal media elite." Finally! She must have finally run out of soggy pop culture references to cross with political spin! Well, actually, she ran out of them a long time ago.... And it turns out she's not even really resigning, she's just phoning it in again: "For the right price, I can be had, too." See other columnists' versions of this joke here, here, and here. How lazy is this joke? We made it. Though, really, what bothers us about Maureen's column isn't that it's unoriginal, it's that it's true. The NYT has been paying her price for years.
