Sorry for the delay! Named for powerlifter George Hackenschmidt (who developed them), they're a modified form of deadlift (the exercise that involves picking up a weight bar directly off the floor from a squatting position, then rising to a standing position using the muscles of your legs). In a standard deadlift, you hold the weight in front of you with an overhand grip. In a hack squat, you pick up the bar with an overhand grip, but come up with the bar behind your legs.

They can really hoover it down, can't they? We're just putting our feeders back up (post a good scrubbing), probably Tues. Bratty little things will really raise some hell if the feeders are ABSENT !!!! when they show up. I've been cussed at in hummingbird many a time.
