I also want to say, though it's not the point, that if a rape survivor doesn't want to testify for any reason--fear of the rapist, fear of how family or friends might react, can't cope with it right now--that's okay too. YES--ideally, everyone would feel like everything would be cool and whatever, but that's not the case. It would be great to be able to note and punish someone convicted of a violent crime.

But the fact that these people can act like they care about rape survivors but then get all brow-beaty about their choices, as if they're not aware people (I get that in this "case" she did testify, but still) is very telling.

Also too--if the "perp" were a seemingly pleasant white guy from a "good family" and such, would there be such outrage and ruckus? I seem to recall a survivor who DID testify about the actions of such a (cough cough Kegstand) man (Supreme Court cough cough) and look how they treated her.
