Well, here we are. It’s 2025, and ICE is playing fascist Mad Libs with civil rights, yanking green card holders out of their homes like we’re running some kind of dystopian-themed escape room—but with no exits.

Let’s get something straight: a green card is not a “we let you stay as long as we feel like it” card. It’s a legal right to reside in this country. It can be revoked, sure, but not because some ghoul in a tactical vest decided they didn’t like your politics. That requires—gasp—due process. But due process is so pre-2016, isn’t it? Now, it’s just “we’re the government, and we said so.”

And of course, the Trump administration (god help us all) and its enablers are cheering this on. Marco Rubio, the human embodiment of a soggy saltine, is out here saying they’ll revoke green cards “of Hamas supporters.” Except… there’s a thing called evidence, and a thing called courts, and none of those things seem to be involved here. That’s the whole problem. If someone is materially supporting terrorism, charge them. If they aren’t, then what you’ve got is state-sponsored kidnapping.

And the ADL, an organization that should know better than anyone what happens when the government starts picking and choosing which people get to have rights? They’re out here trying to do both-sides gymnastics so hard, they’re going to tear a hamstring. You don’t get to say, “We support due process, but we also like what ICE is doing.” No. Pick a lane.

Let’s not forget Columbia University, which did everything the far-right demanded—cracked down on protesters, expelled students, let cops run wild on campus—and they still lost their federal funding. That’s what happens when you try to appease fascists. They don’t stop at what you’re willing to give; they take everything.

And don’t think for a second that this ends with pro-Palestinian activists. That’s just the test case. Give them an inch, and next, they’ll be disappearing labor organizers, climate activists, and anyone else who dares to think outside the approved ideological lines. Today it’s Khalil; tomorrow it’s whoever annoyed Trump’s favorite podcaster.

This is not about whether you personally agree with Khalil or the protests at Columbia. This is about whether you want to live in a country where the government can strip people of their legal status and throw them in a detention center with no charges, no hearing, and no recourse—because that’s where we are.

And if you’re not terrified, you’re not paying attention.

"Any Jew who thinks this is going to start and stop with a few Palestinian activists is fooling themselves. Our community should not be used as an excuse to upend democracy & the rule of law."

I don't want the government saying they did this to protect me.
