Cory Booker is now less than three hours away from breaking the 24-hour, 18-minute record for the longest Senate speech ever. I'm pretty sure he plans to make it, too, burying old racist Dixiecrat Strom Thurmond, who set the record filibustering against the 1957 Civil Rights Act.

If he pulls it off, it'll not only be a Black man beating an unapologetic segregationist, but also a pro-democracy speech triumphing over an anti-democratic one.

Chuck Schumer interrupts: "Do you know how proud this caucus is of you? Do you know how proud America is of you?

"Did I know? I know now," Booker replies, after an ovation.

And then he went right on, calling out the Republican threat to Medicaid.
