Pulling the Plug on Joe?
If you believe the polls - and really, who doesn't? - most people were on Michael "yank it!" Schiavo's side when his wife Terri turned into an immobile political football back in 2005. That said, the connection between agreeing with Schiavo and having him tell you who to vote for is tenuous. Not as tenuous as, say, a thin plastic tube, but pretty flimsy all the same.
So can anyone figure out why Ned Lamont, the anti-war challenger to Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.), is letting Schiavo campaign for him tomorrow ? Lieberman gets Bill Clinton and Lamont gets Michael Schiavo to counterpunch? We thought the liberal blogs were supposed to win this one.
Of course if Lieberman gets skittish and invites Terri's Herbert West-esque parents to campaign for him, bet on Lamont.
(Mega-journalism-whore alert: I solicited Lamont's opinion on the Schiavo case back in June for Reason.)
