Rick Perry Speaks Up In Favor of Abuse Against Gays Abroad
Sane folk nodded in approval today as Barack Obamaput out a memorandum directing "all agencies engaged abroad to ensure that U.S. diplomacy and foreign assistance promote and protect the human rights of LGBT persons." Hooray for Increments, right? It's not clear what this actually means since the U.S. is unlikely to cold de-friend Saudi Arabia on Facebook or quit mailing billions of dollars to our frenemies in the Pakistani government for constant cruelty to their gays (Uganda might be in trouble, though), so for now the Important Point is that the United States is on record as being uncool with gay-hating governments. This is a reasonably uncontroversial thing, wanting people not to be murdered and imprisoned for their sexuality, unless... UNLESS you are a forgotten weirdo like glum Rick Perry, who is still desperate to prove that he is the favored presidential candidate of straight Jesus. He's against it!
Even the Gay Old Party doesn't seem to have made too much noise about it yet, perhaps for the obvious reasons, but boy oh boy Rick Perry, he has a fiery statement noting how much he doesn't want the gays getting any of those "special rights" to exist:
“This administration’s war on traditional American values must stop.
“I have proposed a foreign aid budget that starts at zero. From that zero baseline, we will consider aid requests based solely on America’s national security interests. Promoting special rights for gays in foreign countries is not in America’s interests and not worth a dime of taxpayers’ money.
Relax, Rick! It's not always about Americans, there are other people in the world, too, and this is about them. We promise no more Republicans will accidentally turn gay as a result of this new policy. That's what Rentboy.com is for. [NYT/ RickPerry.org]
