Scalia's People Skills
According to TIME magazine, Antonin Scalia is on the very short list of possible nominations for Supreme Court chief justice as possible replacement for current head Rehnquist. His chief competition is Clarence Thomas, and apparently the deciding factor is sociability. TIME says Scalia is mounting a "charm offensive" against his rival -- who, it's true, is much more, even criminally, sociable. Scalia is supposedly attempting to counter his reputation as a "glowering homophobe," or, as TIME terms him, "famously dyspeptic." (Doesn't that just mean he drinks a lot?) We tend to think that if he's trying to catch up with Thomas, Scalia's got a lot of, uhm, glad-handing to do.
