Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens Retires!
No linky yet, but John Paul Stevens says he's stepping down this summer, so Barry Radical Cleric Nobama gets to appoint another liberal, which will be a "contentious" process because, uh, Republicans will cry and wet their Depends and Obama will put whoever he wants on the bench. Did you known Stevens was actually put on the court to be a conservative? Why do smart conservatives keep turning liberal?
Stevens said Friday he will step down when the court finishes its work for the summer in late June or early July. He said he hopes his successor is confirmed "well in advance of the commencement of the court's next term."
His announcement had been hinted at for months. It comes 11 days before his 90th birthday.
See, not all old people are gross!
Anyway, the "John Paul Stevens is about to retire" story is about as old as Wonkette itself. Here's a post from early 2006 claiming JPS was going to step down that summer.
Let's see, Obama has been informed, on his spaceship coming back from Prague, and, uh, Obama plans to choose a replacement. Really? That's the "background" White House statement? [AP/Wiki]
