The Alignment of the Stars Brings Food In Large Proportions

Wonkabout
  • Wednesday, September 9: The day, the month, the year, it's all the same -- 9/9/09 for those of you playing along at home -- and what a great gimmick opportunity this presents! Want pizza? Great, because it's only $9 at Ellas Wood Fried Pizza. Want Beer? Rocket Bar is offering tons of specials on Magic Hat #9. Want to check out wax demons? Admission to Madame Tussauds is $9 today AND they're staying open until 9PM. [Ella's Wood Fired Pizza, Rocket Bar & Madame Tussauds]

  • Thursday, September 10: The Going Out Gurus are hosting their monthly happy hour on Thursday at Public Bar and it's their standard deal: free food (that they'll run out of before you get there), prizes (for awesome things, like tickets to a U2 show, that you most likely won't win) and alcohol specials (that you should be able to indulge in just fine). [Going Out Guide Happy Hour]
  • Thursday, September 10: Everyone loves the '80s, which is why we're super excited for the "The 50 Worst Songs of the '80s" party at Halo on Thursday, 8PM-2AM. Don't worry, they're taking measures to make the night bearable: the beginning of every hour features on open bar, and there will be drink specials throughout the night. [Halo]
  • Saturday, September 12: Eat Friendship Heights -- yes, you can do that this weekend at the Taste of Friendship Heights. Participating restaurants include Rock Creek, Lia's, Indique Heights, Potomac Pizza, Chipotle, Maggiano's, Giffords and, even Starbucks! Tickets are $1 each and a portion of the proceeds go to help the homeless. [Taste of Friendship Heights]
  • Saturday, September 12: Any event organized by "Compassion Over Killing" is certainly an event worth attending ... though it would be better it involved pork. DC VegFest is this Saturday at the University Yard on the GW Campus and it features food samples and cooking demonstrations. Plus, what would a vegetable orgy be with the discussion, "How I Became a Vegan Bodybuilder." [DC VegFest]
  • Sunday, September 13: Whether you enjoyed Columbia Heights Day or not, there's always room for one more neighborhood festival. On Sunday, celebrate everyone's other favorite neighborhood overrun with violence and crime, Adams Morgan, at the 31st annual Adams Morgan Festival from noon-7PM. [Adams Morgan Day Festival]
