Collision of Art and Alcohol Brings Peace and Happiness To the World

Thursday, March 25: It just keeps getting easier and easier to save the world: Why, now all you have to do is drink beer SLOWLY, and hey, look at that, a better America! On Thursday, make the world a better place by going to the aptly titled "Drink Beer and Save the World" event at the District Chophouse in Downtown, DC. Cost is $28. [Drink Beer and Save the World]

  • Saturday, March 27: Local bartenders are competing to see who can make the best art-themed cocktail, and the winner will be showcased at "Artini," an art-meets-alcohol event created by someone who clearly liked alcohol so much that not even pretty paintings could take his mind off drinking. The event is this Saturday from 8PM to Midnight at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Tickets are $85-$100, and include a cocktail bar, music, dancing and samples of the winning Artini. [Artini]
  • New Food: FoBoGro, a grocery store on crack, opens this week in Foggy Bottom, and Ethiopic, an Ethiopian restaurant that goes where no Ethiopian restaurant has gone before -- H Street -- just opened last week. [FoBoGro, Ethiopic via Thrillist]
  • Food To Look Forward To: Alero, a Mexican restaurant that is 10x better than Lauriol Plaza, is opening up a fourth location in Columbia Heights, and Jack's, a super-shady restaurant on Pride Street, is closed for renovations and will supposedly be a whole lot classier when it reopens. • The Best in DC: Some restaurants in DC are very, very good and get national acclaim for being so great. Which translates to, if you afford it, make sure to eat at Komi, Obelisk, CityZen and Cafe Atlantico. [James Beard Finalists via Metrocurean]
