Jon Stewart is in Full Media Analysis Mode in this segment about American networks' coverage of French President Francois Hollande's visit to America. Oh, sure, there's a whole lot of International Relations stuff they could report on, but mostly we learn all about the "tawdy soap opera" resulting from Hollande's arrival sans une première Dame. How can we ever think about Syria or Iran when the seating arrangements for the State Dinner are all out of whack?

As a current resident of France and usual watcher of the evening news (it really is fair and balanced!), I can report that the local media gives about 1/3 of a fuck about Hollande's romantic trysts. I've seen one 5-minute story on it, and that's it.
Makes me sad that American media is so lame ('cepting the crack journalizim from Wonkette, of course).
Ah Lyon, which even the French recognize as the gastronomic capital of the country (and by extension, the world, because they are French and damn proud of it after all). I'm lucky that I've not gained 30 lbs while here! Sounds as if you took full advantage of the food offerings while visiting. Sadly, the bakery products would be stale by the time they reached you, and the damn US import restrictions on many fromages français make it impossible to send the St. Marcellin. Quel dommage!
