Let's play a new game we just invented called "Who Covered It Dumber?" Which media source was the mostest stupid about a story? Today, we will pit the New York Post against Fox News in a battle to the derp. Today's topic: Obama shopping at the Gap.
So Obama went to the Gap last week to highlight the company raising their starting wage to $9 per hour, which is a thing that normal people agree is a nice thing, and smart people agree is still not nearly enough to live on. The Post's story actually does cover that important thing, but the people in the New York Post Cover Department decided that the REAL story here was Obama's extreme girlyman behavior in touching a pink sweater.
Who Covered It Dumber? Obama Buys Pink Sweaters For The Girls
Here in NYC one occasionally comes across a thin, sad ghost of a newspaper called the Zombie New York Post. It is more or less on a par with Homeless People's Street News and that Pennysaver Metro AM freebie handed out in the subway by poorly paid people who lack a green card. It does not actually resemble an actual newspaper in any respect, except for the embarrassed picture of Zombie Alexander Hamilton up there on the masthead.
That said, I happened to see the Post's cover showing Obama swishing over a pink sweater, and I admit I LOLd. It was pretty funny, no? Especially in a town where absolutely no one except 4 or 5 aging Irishmen in kilts thinks there's anything significant about straight men rocking teh ghey now and then.
Everyone should rewatch The Princess Bride every so often. Last summer, I officiated at the wedding of my ex-stepdaughter. At her request, I opened the ceremony with "MAIWWAGE! MAIWWAGE IS WHAT BWINGS US TOGEVER TODAY".
Somewhat to my surprise, almost all of the Mormons recognized it.
