Republicans, in the dark, giving speeches, literally.

lilblackcorvette August 7, 2008 at 9:33 am

Barack Obama a pussy? I’d hit it!

I wish loquaicious music would explain how falling gas prices are bad. Is that like Peace through Intimidation?

The FBI could find a box in Ivins’ attic that’s labelled “stuff I used for those anthrax mailings” and some folks will NOT believe he did it. The FBI wasn’t exactly stellar through the run of this investigation and that’s fed right into the conspiracy theorists’ malfunctions.

ManchuCandidate August 7, 2008 at 9:49 am

Human Rights in China. 1.3 Billion people. 70% of them poor/extremely poor. A tradition of not giving a shit about the lower classes. Who is surprised besides Westerners?

lilblackcorvette August 7, 2008 at 9:49 am

yo quiero fuyar un hombre con pelo blanco. Gasolina esta mierde. yo puedo caminar.

Serolf Divad August 7, 2008 at 9:54 am

I want to know who the guy is who… when the angry and borderline schizophrenic bio-weapons scientist asks if he can borrow some of the lab’s equipment for a few days is like: “Sure, Bruce… take home a couple of freeze dry units, culture medium, petri dishes and anthrax spores. I’m sure you have in mind a totally legitimate use for this stuff. Just make sure it gets back, OK? Or its my ass.”

Because a lower gas price removes the incentive to conserve, which would ultimately stabilize the price for a long time. Americans are oil junkies and feel that they are entitled by God to have cheap oil forever so they can be as wasteful as they damn well please.

WadISay August 7, 2008 at 9:55 am

Yes, sometimes I feel dark hands pushing me forward; yes, the voices in my head have been getting meaner and meaner; and yes, I have issues with the KKG girls. But I still don’t understand Ivans’ motive. Can some just say it?: he was not just a nut case, he was a right wing nut case.

Gimpson August 7, 2008 at 9:56 am

I am shocked that somebody who chooses a career in biological weapons research might be mentally unstable.

Servo August 7, 2008 at 9:59 am

Am I the only person that doesn’t give a shit about Bruce Ivins or the “mystery envelopes” that were delivered 7 years ago?

lilblackcorvette August 7, 2008 at 10:03 am

[re=53863]Servo[/re]: I gotta say that sounds a little oil cartelish to me. ” We need to keep prices high so people won’t buy it.” = We need to keep prices high so we can make more money.

I’m not debating with you. It just sounds like bullsh**. I mean unfettered capitialism.

Larry McAwful August 7, 2008 at 10:07 am

[re=53855]Terry[/re]: Well, of course he did it. He’s being accused of terrorism, and everyone knows that if you’re accused of terrorism, you don’t need a trial to be found guilty. 9/11 changed everything. Evidence, schmevidence.

lilblackcorvette August 7, 2008 at 10:09 am

there are other reasons people choose to conserve. the environment for one. manipulating the price of gas will just piss more people off as they pump , not make them change their lifestyles. Or so I think, but as McLame said “I don’t know nuthin about birthin’ no energy/economic babies”

Cape Clod August 7, 2008 at 10:11 am

Next time I want to have an annoying, pointless tantrum, I’m going to make sure that I reserve the floor of Congress to have it in.

[re=53851]lilblackcorvette[/re]: Um, why would I think that lower gas prices are bad?

Canmon (the Inadequate) August 7, 2008 at 10:16 am

[re=53873]lilblackcorvette[/re]: I agree with you. Opening up ANWR and drilling offshore will not suddenly bring oil down to $30 a barrel but it will relieve the pressure a bit. Right now the economy needs oil to move people and goods. If you artifically inflate an already high price you are hurting the economy.

mookworthjwilson August 7, 2008 at 10:20 am

[re=53864]WadISay[/re]: He actually was a registered Dem who voted in every primary for quite a while. Makes no sense that he would send the anthrax to Leahy and Daschle. Brokaw, I can see that. I still think he’s a patsy. The whole thing is just way too convenient.

Johnny Zhivago August 7, 2008 at 10:43 am

[re=53870]lilblackcorvette[/re]:
The Oil Sumbitches are basically enjoying the free ride provided by investors looking to capitalize on the growing global demand on oil. As consumers, we were spoiled by a gas price that remained relatively unchanged for over a decade. I may even rightly say that it steadily declined when you adjust the dollar. Oil prices ( and inflation ) never kept pace with increasing disposable incomes and double-digit global economic growth and the consequential demand for oil to fuel it. Something had to give. Since investors sucked the .com and real estate wells dry ( crippling our banks and devaluing the dollar in the process ), they put their money into commodites to minimize their losses, driving the prices into the stratosphere overnight.
The commodities will slowly settle into a fair market price. But it won’t be what we’re used to paying.
The real blame goes to people who want instant returns on their investments. They want to get rich(er) quick despite the consequences.

gurukalehuru August 7, 2008 at 11:30 am

I think part of the reason the price of gas went up so much was so that they could lower it a bit before the election, thus ensuring that Eurasia will always be at war with Oceania, and the boot will remain on our neck forever and ever. Either that or the oil companies just want to make as much money as possible. What the hell do I know? I live in Europe and haven’t driven a car in 10 years.

I think that Ivins dude is a patsy because basically I don’t believe anything the government says, ever, but am I really the first to mention that he looks an awful lot like Tommy Smothers? Maybe his mental problems go back to the fact that he was the least favorite brother.

and, snark totally off here, whose fucking bonehead idea was it to hold the Olympics in China, anyway? Like, no possiblity of anything going wrong there, no.

BadNewsJack August 7, 2008 at 11:30 am

[re=53880]Canmon (the Inadequate)[/re]: The oil companies don’t care about relieving the pressure. They’re artificially rising the prices. They are sitting on millions of acres of oil reserves but choose not to drill. They’re capping oil wells.

Also, the EPA stated that drilling in ANWR would only lower the price a few cents throughout the course of ten years.

The best part about the Times article on the “future of black politics” is the brief segment where my mayor, Michael Nutter, is a complete dick to the reporter for about a page-and-a-half.

What a sarcastic, salty bastard. I think I’d keep voting for him for the next twenty years if it wasn’t for term limits.

(And not just for the sarcasm — he’s doing a pretty nice job, so far.)

masterdebater August 7, 2008 at 1:00 pm

[re=53863]Servo[/re]: It’s kind of interesting how that whole thing works. The oil companies raise the price to say, 5 dollars a gallon from 2 dollars a gallon, then lower it to like, 4 dollars a gallon, and everyone says, “it’s really great that gas is so cheap now”! Oh, and right after they get McCranky elected on the “see, I told you so” argument, the price can go right back up. Free enterprise? I don’t think so.
