I see the quote actually comes from our friend David Vitter.

actor212 December 10, 2008 at 12:37 pm

Did they actually say “ass backwards”? Just after the Craig hearing????

queeraselvis v 2.0 December 10, 2008 at 12:37 pm

Well, if anybody knows from ass-backwards, it’s the Vit-man.

freakishlystrong December 10, 2008 at 12:42 pm

It’s just ironic is all, the Repubs approach every ass backwards, non?

scotterl December 10, 2008 at 12:43 pm

Sometimes the snark is just too easy.

Sussemilch December 10, 2008 at 12:46 pm

Only in America can you get more blame for paying the bills than breaking the bank.

robanybody December 10, 2008 at 12:46 pm

Is this a sidebar to the Taint story?

Texan Bulldoggette December 10, 2008 at 12:48 pm

I wish Reid or a Dem with a set of balls would have said “Well, David, the automobile industry needs a hand. They don’t sell WHORES–just cars!”

shortsshortsshorts December 10, 2008 at 12:49 pm

*Must*hold*back*from*obvious*
NO! I CANNOT!
It is clear that Republicans enjoy the ass-back, but also ass-forward approach. Usually these two approaches are done back and forth, in a simultaneous matter. Please e-mail Ted Haggard with any questions.
Thank you.

Servo December 10, 2008 at 12:49 pm

That money will be gone by COB today.

mattbolt December 10, 2008 at 12:51 pm

Why are the Republicans even at work? Didn’t they read the morning summary? It’s Call In Gay Day.

AngryBlakGuy December 10, 2008 at 1:08 pm

…I still think they should have just bought the damn companies.

SayItWithWookies December 10, 2008 at 1:08 pm

Congressional Republicans, left out of negotiations on the package, are expressing grave reservations and may seek to block it.

David, honey, the more you resist, the more it’s gonna hurt.

qwerty42 December 10, 2008 at 1:09 pm

“ass backwards” … well, I thought they’d favor a reduction in the capital gains tax. I thought that was like WD-40 and could solve anything.

AngryBlakGuy December 10, 2008 at 1:10 pm

…as long as your ass is backward and your dick is forward then you’re ok! Cant be having the buttsecz can we?!

Sussemilch December 10, 2008 at 1:12 pm

Mr Blifil December 10, 2008 at 1:15 pm

Well it stands to reason. They have become the “Ass Forward” party of record.

KatieKate December 10, 2008 at 3:51 pm

I am a democrat, but the Republicans are right, this is a ass backward plan to help the car industry! Why should we help them?! They made shitty gas guzzling cars for years and refused to innovate, not to mention how ridiculous their wages are for the union workers. The only way they would have properly reformed was to lay off, and start from scratch. Thinking anything will change is stupid.

proudcitizen December 10, 2008 at 3:53 pm

“Sen. Mitch McConnell, the GOP leader, said his side hadn’t seen the measure as of Wednesday morning and wouldn’t agree to immediate votes. “Republicans will not allow taxpayers to subsidize failure,””

WTF? Have the Repugs forgotten about Iraq already? And don’t get me started about the bank give away, I mean bailout.

Captain Swing December 11, 2008 at 6:29 am

[re=195940]KatieKate[/re]: Totally agree. The U.S. auto makers have only their own incompetence to blame for their current situation. No doubt these executives see themselves as representing the very essence of free market capitalism. Funny how they appear completely oblivious to its most basic principle: If your business fails to meet your customers’ needs, they will go and find one that does, and your business will be out of business.

Despite the public utterances of officials on The Hill, I doubt there would be many (on either side of the House) who don’t privately know that these Detroit Dinosaurs are toast, and that any taxpayer money “lent” to them may as well be used to start the next Congressional barbecue. Indeed, there is already talk about this money being merely the first instalment.

If this so called bailout does go ahead, I suspect it will have more to do with sitting politicians (understandably) not wanting such well known icons to fail on their watch, as the saying goes.

No snark here- Such failures would (will) be a tragedy for all involved, as well as being a severe blow to U.S. business prestige. Sadly, the only question is how much taxpayer money is going to be squandered before someone finally stands up and declares the party over. We can only hope that something better will rise from the ashes.

petty February 20, 2009 at 9:39 pm

indeed these three automakers need any financial assistance and support all the way to make greener cars for the future. Any financial assistance for the Detroit’s Big Three are necessary. But hopefully, we’ve been expecting a larger number of positive results.. These car companies should try to make some alternatives to address our economical problems. Why not make any modifications on their car parts too? (ex: a more developed high flow catalytic converter and interiors).
