Blacks spying on Whites!Let’s see, Robert Gates stays at the Pentagon, dope stays illegal, Rick Warren gives a national lecture against gays … what else does your Liberal Unicorn have in store for you dupes? Ah, a new spy chief, retired Adm. Dennis C. Blair. The career spies are furious, because Blair’s a military guy, and liberal spies like to keep those things separate. Oh and guess what Obama is “considering” for your domestic country, America?

A domestic spy agency! Ha, suckers!

“Two former intelligence officials said the Obama team is weighing whether to propose the creation of a domestic intelligence agency,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

I thought that was what Seymour Hersh and Dana Priest were for.

pondscum December 19, 2008 at 2:44 pm

Um, isn’t that the FBI?

x111e7thst December 19, 2008 at 2:45 pm

chascates December 19, 2008 at 2:45 pm

What job will Barry give Lieberman? Or Trent Lott?

StephanieInCA December 19, 2008 at 2:47 pm

Who the fuck is Barack Obama? I thought I was voting for this dude.

The Cold Sea December 19, 2008 at 2:47 pm

Turns out there really is no difference between Democrats and Republicans. All those people miffed at progressives for voting for Nader in 2000….whatdaya think now? Instead of Black Jesus, Barry’s Black Bush. Suck it, America!

jagorev December 19, 2008 at 2:47 pm

Better to create a domestic intelligence with a proper structure and Congressional oversight than have the CIA/NSA randomly (and illegally) abduct American citizens for sending to Syrian prisons.

Oh who am I kidding, OBAMA IS A NAZI!!!!!!!!

dotdotdotdotdot December 19, 2008 at 2:48 pm

I, for one, welcome our new domestic surveillan. . . Oh who am I kidding, no I don’t. Die spooks! Time to go build my survivalist shelter in Wyoming while real estate’s still in the shitter.

Iggy Plop December 19, 2008 at 2:48 pm

So the controversy is because Obama went with someone with military instead of civilian intelligence?! Because Obama picked someone with real intelligence experience instead of … Instead of what? What does the CIA do other than destabilize foreign economies and take pot shots at banana republic socialists?

O.K., so the domestic spy thing is a little worrisome, though.

ForTheTurnstiles December 19, 2008 at 2:49 pm

What America needs is an approach that values all approaches.

http://integrallife.com/apply/spirituality-religion/integral-approach-judaism

Really.

And that’s what Obama’s doing here. He’s valuing all values about the same these days.

[re=203262]The Cold Sea[/re]: You’re forgetting something. That domestic spy agency? It’s going to spy on conservatives. Suck that!

magic titty December 19, 2008 at 2:50 pm

I assume there’ll be less anger over this than that *terrible* news about the dipshit pastor because why not?

Anyway, I’m sure there’s a Yakov Smirnoff/KGB joke around here somewhere, so I’m off to find it.

Obama has a domestic intelligence agency; her name is Michelle.

Texan Bulldoggette December 19, 2008 at 2:52 pm

[re=203262]The Cold Sea[/re]: Nader? Get real. Ron Paul maybe; Nader rescued us from the Pintos in the 1970s & his 15 minutes are up. I’ll still take Black Barry over anyone else.

The Cold Sea December 19, 2008 at 2:54 pm

[re=203270]gjdodger[/re]: Oh yeah, I’m sure it will only spy on conservatives (except for BFF Rick Warren) and progressives and anyone who doesn’t give money to David Plouffe every Monday 10:30 a.m. when the *Change* emails arrive.

SmilingMightyJesus December 19, 2008 at 2:58 pm

He has a spy running the pentagon. Makes sense to have an admiral in charge of the spies. It’s all part of the plan.

[re=203253]pondscum[/re]: Yeah… ??? What an ominous single sentence. I have no idea what it means.

Also, there is no controversy over Blair. I know this because I read Glen Greenwald! So you are making stuff up, Wonkette! Spies are also not “liberal,” most of them are kind of evil.

Monsieur Grumpe December 19, 2008 at 3:00 pm

Domestic Spy Agency?
They should get http://www.cheaters.com/” rel=”nofollow”> Joey Greco .

coolcatdaddy December 19, 2008 at 3:12 pm

Fascinating.

Obama, politically, is starting to remind me of George W’s father.

How bizarre…

Doglessliberal December 19, 2008 at 3:18 pm

[re=203327]coolcatdaddy[/re]: well, he just appointed a major environmentalist as head of NOAA, which is a really big deal, and a huge pro-Union person to Labor, so I don’t think we need to freak out…yet.

We’ll call it the Security And National Terrorism Agency-Confidential Legal Arraignment Under State Endorsement.

Sorry, gf insists on listening to xmas songs during the season.

[re=203271]magic titty[/re]: I’m not sure this will distract the gays. They mostly just want people to listen to them right now, even if it’s via warrantless eavesdropping. Also.
In Russia, domestic intelligence agency creates you! [/yakov voice] That’s all I got.

[re=203367]jbd[/re]: You poor, poor bastard.

Neon Trotsky December 19, 2008 at 3:53 pm

Look, we desperately need another federal agency that deals with intelligence! I mean, we only have the Director of National Intelligence, Central Intelligence Agency, Defense Intelligence Agency, Department of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, National Reconnaissance Office, and National Security Agency. We obvs totally have to have this!

p-Sludge December 19, 2008 at 3:54 pm

We need a domestic intelligence agency to keep an eye on Jeb Bush and the repuglican “shadow government”.

Warren Terror December 19, 2008 at 3:56 pm

WTF is the FBI? Chopped liver? Probably got infiltrated by too many honest people over the years.

DeLand DeLakes December 19, 2008 at 3:59 pm

[re=203262]The Cold Sea[/re]: I think that Nader is a despicable, whining, racial-epithet-slinging troll who commands a following of the some of the stupidest and most narcissistic people in this sorry country. And I will ponder the difference between Republican and Democratic administrations as I enjoy my unoccupied womb over the next four years, thnx.

TeddyS December 19, 2008 at 4:11 pm

Obama is not even President yet and he is already outting our spies and announcing their names in public! Now the whole world will know who our top spy is, thus making Admiral Blair a big target for the terrabalists.

And, yes, the FBI really is chopped liver. Except for Special Agent Clarisse Starling, when played by Jodie Foster.

S.Luggo December 19, 2008 at 4:21 pm

[re=203391]Neon Trotsky[/re]: Yes. We need the Cheka (Vserossijskaya Chrezvychajnaya Komissiya) particularly since we are surrounded by the Wonkette counter-revolutionaries like Layne. Let the cleansing begin.

qaf December 19, 2008 at 4:26 pm

[re=203262]The Cold Sea[/re]: You’ve been waiting eight years to say that, eh? Hope it felt good, Obama’s about as close to a Lebanese president as you’re likely to ever have. Nader had his shining moment in the sixties, and he’s spent the last thirty years atoning for it by setting PIRGs loose on the world and systematically crippling left activism (and fighting their unionization). Last I heard he had substantial holdings in Cisco stock, the folks who have built censorship capabilities into their Internet routers (in order to get that vast Chinese market), isn’t that like investing in a company that manufactures bombs for the information wars?

As though some millionaire white guy with no constituency who’s lived inside the Beltway most his life (in a house supposedly owned by his brother), has never held elected office, and pops up into the media light one-quarter as often as Punxsutawney Phil would get anywhere if he managed to win. Dream on… Marshall McLuhan will be remembered longer…

DeLand DeLakes December 19, 2008 at 5:01 pm

[re=203452]qaf[/re]: Don’t forget taking money from Republicans in order to get onto the ballot in Ohio and other states in 2004. And generally being an irredeemable fucktard, but I think you covered that pretty well. Dude is more useless than the whole Palin clan combined, with none of the lulz.

Neon Trotsky December 19, 2008 at 5:26 pm

[re=203449]S.Luggo[/re]: I wholeheartedly agree! We can distribute statues of creepy Michael Chertoff to scare the proles. Then, when Blackwater loses their contract with State, I think they could very smoothly transition to being Chekists…

MilwaukeeKent December 19, 2008 at 5:29 pm

Blair’s retired military, retired is almost civilian isn’t it? George Tenet’s not doing much these days, he’s probably available. Or Porter Goss, wait maybe he’s in jail…they’re ex-CIA but that used to be the closest thing to McConnell’s gig. Obama’s a little light on celebrity appointments and Britney Spears could use a career change…Nah.

On the domestic agency idea, eh, not so much. They might want to rent this movie first (The Monitors(1969)):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsQawrUNlTc

Good luck with that.

Bruno December 19, 2008 at 6:14 pm

Now all the pieces of the puzzle fit together and Joe the Plumber is in on it:

Don’t buy his little digibox people, this is how the govment will be splying on you. Why do you think they are subsidizing it.

Don’t tell me I didn’t warn you

qaf December 19, 2008 at 6:16 pm

[re=203588]MilwaukeeKent[/re]: One of my favorite movies when I was a kid. Everett Dirksen and Larry Storch! The Monitors are your friends! (The original novel by Keith Laumer ain’t bad either.)

The President’s Analyst is probably also apropos. Apparently the actors said “CIA” and “FBI” throughout the movie but were overdubbed to “CEA” and “FBR”.

Bruno December 19, 2008 at 6:21 pm

Oh shit, its a good thing I put Borat out to pasture yesterday, I think they were on to him, especially with all that Closeted Conservative talk.

Don’t worry, I’ll keep him a sleeper agent for special sexytimes.

Borat is dead. Long live Bruno.

MilwaukeeKent December 19, 2008 at 6:57 pm

Yesh! Watch The President’s Analyst before reviewing the wiretapping and FISA. TPC. The Phone Company. No wonder they had to break up AT & T…

Just heard the stat that Obama has booked his cabinet appointments faster than any administration in 40 years. These folks look fit to hit the ground running. WTF? Did America blink while some no-goodnik put adults in charge? They didn’t get the memo, they’re supposed to spend the first two months in office griping about the missing “O’s” on the computer keyboards.

Back to the Thunder Snow and flying busses…

Freelance Minion December 19, 2008 at 10:18 pm

[re=203253]pondscum[/re]:
Yeah, “domestic intelligence” is a worrisome idea but to the extent it shoudl be done at all, it is pretty much the definition of what the FBI does.

On the other hand, is Obama actually thinking of this or is someone who thinks this is a good idea, and realizing Obama’s not the crazy leftists Hannity claimed, simply dreaming out loud without any interest in this from the big O.

Quietly December 20, 2008 at 2:02 am

[re=203391]Neon Trotsky[/re]: With the current national definition of intelligence being a sick combination of “highly unlikely rumors we tortured out of some A-Rab” and a 4th grade education, it’s not like any of that intelligence is worth two Jew gold anyway.

JMM December 20, 2008 at 10:25 am

Dennis Blair should be rejected National Director of Intelligence. His role in the East Timor crisis of 1999 was disastrous. He undermined the Clinton administration’s belated efforts to support human rights and self-determination in the Indonesian-occupied territory, and he fought congressional efforts to limit military assistance. In fact, he downplayed human rights concerns and essentially gave a go ahead to the Indonesian military to violate human rights. see here for the details.

Purple Tide December 20, 2008 at 1:27 pm

[re=203824]JMM[/re]: Exactly, Blair aided and abetted genocidal (pro-US!) dictator Suharto’s systematic destabilization & destruction of East Timor all in the name of appeasing an “important military ally and trade partner” of the US. He’s to a nuanced, principled foreign policy what Rick Warren is to gay marriage. Barry thinks these people have viable viewpoints and need to have their voices “included” in government even though their bellicose chauvinism has dominated the last 8 years and more. Genocide abettors and gay haters should have to wait out the next four years, at least until Trig Palin is old enough to shout “Vote for my grand… for my mommy!”

So Obama is Big BRUTHA? Is praying to white jesus a thought crime?

tommyjonq December 21, 2008 at 12:25 pm

chillax, chilluns. since when has any u.s. “intelligence” agency EVER actually gathered any real information? it took the feebs three years to figure out that blago would sell his wife to dunkin donuts for cab fare to wrigley field. condosleaza rice still hasn’t noticed that the cold “war” is over. and the national “security” agency wouldn’t read my blog if i handed them the pin number to chelsea’s versace make-over-of-th-month club. lieberman uber alles!
