Click to participate in Democracy!Oh look, now you can click this computer graphic of a computer, and then, magically, you can vote for your Wonkette, so we can post a different computer graphic of a computer, but this time designating your Wonkette as the whatever-of-the-year — this time around, we are nominated for “Prettiest Libtard Blog.” We are being MURDERED by Crooks & Liars some blog we have literally never heard of, called “Confluence,” right now. Please put a stop to this outrage.

UPDATE: Thanks, friends! We are now collectively crushing everyone else, to prevent Global Warming. Please keep it up, once a day, etc. We must get our economy back on track!

UPDATE II: It has come to our attention that our own COMICS CURMUDGEON, Joss Fluehonker, is having a Mexican Death Match with myriad other so-called humor blogs. DO NOT BE DECEIVED, by these interlopers. Go now and vote for him, this guy, who writes “the funnies about the funnies.” (You can pay me for that hot new slogan later, JOSH.)

Bribe me first. THAT’S A PRETTY FUCKING IMPORTANT AWARD. YOU DON’T JUST GIVE SOMETHING LIKE THAT AWAY…

DustBowlBlues January 5, 2009 at 8:08 pm

Oh, right. Now that you need us, you’re “our” wonkette. All right, all right, quit whining. I’ll go commit some voter fraud on “my” wonkette’s behalf right now.

Lazy Media January 5, 2009 at 8:08 pm

What the fuck is The Confluence? I guess I could Google, but who can afford that in today’s economy?

Jim Newell January 5, 2009 at 8:14 pm

Orcinus = Orc In Us

Disgusting.

MisterLoki January 5, 2009 at 8:17 pm

Oh gods, The Confluence is a PUMA blog.

hockeymom January 5, 2009 at 8:17 pm

I didn’t do well in charts and graphs…but I think you’re actually being murdered by something called The Confluence. Crooks and Liars is in turn, being murdered by Wonkette.
The whole thing is a bloody mess.

Servo January 5, 2009 at 8:18 pm

[re=209245]Jim Newell[/re]:
Is that the moonlighting blog for the “Han Shoots First” folks?

Words January 5, 2009 at 8:18 pm

Ave, Lord Layne! I did my part for the kingdom! Long live Wonketeers!!!

Origami January 5, 2009 at 8:20 pm

How on earth is Wonkette getting slammed by a (possibly?) PUMA Word Press blog? I didn’t even realize there were over 300 PUMAS out there, roaming in the wilds of the US.

DustBowlBlues January 5, 2009 at 8:24 pm

[re=209242]Lazy Media[/re]: I’m so there about what the fuck The Confluence is. I checked them out, and tjeuy seem to be ‘tards obsessed with Obama and a camp for diapers, which I don’t think makes any sense. Yet, they are kicking ass, which means some diapered camper who hates unicorns is cheating his ass off, so I guess I have to go do the same.

See ya’ about a 100 votes from now. And listen up, “my” wonkette: If I’m going to waste my precious time trying to save your asses from being humiliated by a diaper commercial, I’d better never hear any threats about banning me.

Servo January 5, 2009 at 8:26 pm

I think The Septic Tank is a better suited name.

smellyal8r January 5, 2009 at 8:26 pm

[re=209254]Origami[/re]: I thought they were all going to State with their leader. They have a blog? Who taught them that?

donner_froh January 5, 2009 at 8:26 pm

I am from Chicago and find it very strange that I am only able to vote once in this election. Can someone get that fixed before the polls close?

DustBowlBlues January 5, 2009 at 8:27 pm

WTF–I’m so old and computer illiterate, I was found out immediately and a smarty-pants compubot told me I voted in the past 24 hours and wouldn’t let me go again.

As the kids would say, this is an epic fail.

Lazy Media January 5, 2009 at 8:28 pm

[re=209258]DustBowlBlues[/re]: Banned! Do it, Newell, or you ain’t got a hair on your ass.

WIDTAP January 5, 2009 at 8:31 pm

Hmm. Obsession with Obama. Loves pictures of men in diapers. Is Sarah double dipping the weblog award thingy?

Lazy Media January 5, 2009 at 8:33 pm

Hmm, clearing cookies doesn’t work, so I guess you’ll have to turn off your modem and get a new IP address each time you vote. If you want to cheat, that is, which I totally am not advocating.

Jukesgrrl January 5, 2009 at 8:34 pm

Can’t Campbell Brown fix this for you? What good is she?

jagorev January 5, 2009 at 8:34 pm

My only goal in life now is to make sure that the Comics Curmudgeon, Medium Large, and Wonkette win their respective categories. xkcd must DIE.

daisy chain January 5, 2009 at 8:37 pm

Is The Confluence a liberal blog or some really tiresome dyke’s livejournal? I don’t get it.

WIDTAP January 5, 2009 at 8:39 pm

Voting Rules

* Polls close January 12, 2009.
* You may vote once every 24 hours in each poll.
* After voting in an individual poll you will be locked out from voting again in that poll (on the computer you voted from) for 24 hours.
* Each poll has its own separate 24 hour lockout control. Voting in, for example, Best Blog will not lock you out of voting in other categories.
* Vote totals are not final until certified.
* Vote totals are subject to periodic correction for identified cheating.
* Cheaters will be banned from accessing the site for the duration of the voting.
* We reserve the right to close some or all polls earlier than the posted end date.
* In the event of identified cheating, the decisions of the judges as to the manner of correction is final.

Damn. Someone is counting the votes. Why can’t the weblog awards be like Canada and just be dictated to by the Queen, and by Queen I mean any one of several of my fellow Wonketters.

cal January 5, 2009 at 8:39 pm

The PUMAs are packing the poll with votes for their blog, where I just learned that Harriet Christian is running for Senator. Seriously.

StrangelyBrown January 5, 2009 at 8:39 pm

Okay, I made the mistake of looking at The Confluence just now, in the vain hope that it might at least be some kind of group golden-shower slashfic site. What I discovered was much worse. Consider this lump of prose:

Seems they are running a story that says Camp Pamp knew all about the relationship between A$$alo Bill and David Rubin at least since August, when Judas introduced him to Pampers’ money changers at the DNC Pampers Coronation Extravaganza on Mount Olympus.

Seriously — WTF language is that? Is that Esperanto? It’s like that one episode of Star Trek where the aliens could only talk in metaphor. “Shaka when the walls fell” to you too, motherfuckers!

WadISay January 5, 2009 at 8:40 pm

Wonkette should declare itself the winner and urge everybody else to concede, to promote healing and to spare the agony of a recount. If there’s a recount, obfuscate, obfuscate, obfuscate. Allege that Wonkette readers experience higher than usual computer problems, causing many wrongfully rejected ballots. Berate them for being dumbasses, if necessary. Discredit The Lizard People. Then hire a bunch of suits and sue the clowns until they cough up blood. Uh, that’s the advice from Minnesota.

tiny mexican January 5, 2009 at 8:43 pm

Gross, I should have read the comments before I Googled them. Now I have PUMA cooties.

Oh, and Wonkette is winning.

mothermaven January 5, 2009 at 8:43 pm

I voted for Wonkette! Now where is my pony!

MISTAHCOUGHDROP January 5, 2009 at 8:45 pm

I guess my vote just put you ahead by like 1000 points. So thank me, MISTAHCOUGHDROP in Paris for voting at 2:45 am French time! Oh, yeah and download my calendar already, hey, didn’t I say it was FREE? It’s FREE!

http://lalandedigitalpress.blogspot.com/

finallyhappy January 5, 2009 at 8:47 pm

ok. I can vote at least 2X a day – home and work computer. I will also try to use other family computers. This is dishonest but it isn’t going to cost me $50 like the Franken recount.
I hope I can cheat a lot before they catch me.

smellyal8r January 5, 2009 at 8:47 pm

[re=209276]StrangelyBrown[/re]: Devious. They’ve invented their own inscrutable language. Picking through this, linguists at Syracuse or some such have determined: Pampers=Obama. A$$alo Bill=Richardson? Mount Olympus=OB-GYN’s office.

AmesG January 5, 2009 at 8:48 pm

Thank God for you posting this: “Confluence,” while it may be beneath your notice, is literally the worst website in the world: it’s not even a liberal site, it’s a crazy PUMA anti-Obama-for-no-reason-at-all site. I’ll explain.

You must beat them!!!!

Lionel Hutz Esq. January 5, 2009 at 8:48 pm

Yeah, as the Pope Cat commands, Yeah, so the Wonketters shall see that it is done.

Plus, there is no way that Wonkette can lose to a blog that doesn’t have a single mention of buttsex anywhere on its main page.

And if it is a PUMA board, how the hell can they be libtard? Everyone knows PUMAs are just a front for FOX News.

DustBowlBlues January 5, 2009 at 8:49 pm

[re=209264]Lazy Media[/re]: Lord help us all. This contest is raising the stress level around here to such a degree, the wonkerrati are already reverting to cannibalism. This isn’t the Andes, people.

pattycake January 5, 2009 at 8:50 pm

I have done thy bidding, O Master.

mattbolt January 5, 2009 at 8:55 pm

Oh and hey, don’t forget to send warm, dripping love to Wonkette’s own Josh Fruhlinger’s Comics Curmudgeon, he’s in a tight race for Best Humor Blog with Jon Swift and some site I’ve never heard of, ever.

Wonkette’s in the can, though. Just look at what we did for that driving site, the one where we learned how to take the trucknutz out of the trunk and crash into sidewalks and accelerate to infinite, and together we single-handedly ended global warming.

finallyhappy January 5, 2009 at 8:55 pm

I went to that crappy blog- angry, unfunny and not liberal. And right now Wonkette is ahead by over 100 votes

mattbolt January 5, 2009 at 8:56 pm

I chose to go with the write-in option, haha, those Libtards Elite will get their comeuppance when they see my vote for “lizard people”

HuskyMescan January 5, 2009 at 9:05 pm

mattbolt January 5, 2009 at 9:12 pm

Are there any other comedic options we can devote our causes towards? Like how all the cool kids on the football team would flood the voting for Prom Queen and elect some gross fat kid as a senior prank? Is one of the Best Conservative Blogs really shitty, and can we get out the vote for it? I wouldn’t know, conservative blogs are my kryptonite.

hrhkingfriday January 5, 2009 at 9:14 pm

I like how my choices for “individual blogger” (is there such a thing) include “field negro” and “jo”.

HuskyMescan January 5, 2009 at 9:15 pm

[re=209303]hrhkingfriday[/re]: field negro rocks!

mylesfromnowhere January 5, 2009 at 9:38 pm

I voted and it played “Wonkette the Magic Blogger”. Now if I can just buy some of those Wonkette plates, coins, cookies and a big ass box of Wonkette Waffle mix, I can die hopey, uh, happy.

JamesMichaelCurley January 5, 2009 at 9:39 pm

After voting for Wonkette I went to ‘Best Conservative Blog’ and voted for Ace of Spades, because it either 1. suggested something racist o2 2. reminded me of those First Cav LRPS in Viet Nam who would torch a villiage and then leave Ace of Spades playing cards all over. Either way it seemed appropriate.

eoberhauser January 5, 2009 at 9:45 pm

[re=209316]mylesfromnowhere[/re]: actually, if you’re looking for one of those plates, I saw them at Walgreens last night. “prized family heirloom” indeed!

Rumproast January 5, 2009 at 9:45 pm

Hey, if you guys really want to piss off the Confluence and the PUMAs, vote for my blog Rumproast in Best Small Blog. PUMAs hate me nearly as much as the inadequate black male.

http://2008.weblogawards.org/polls/best-small-blog/

Lionel Hutz Esq. January 5, 2009 at 9:53 pm

Boy, the Confluence is going to be pissed when they realize that they lost because of the votes from computer caucuses and super delegates put Wonkette in the lead.

DustBowlBlues January 5, 2009 at 9:54 pm

Oh, no. That awful TC is back. Wasn’t that annoying cretin banned?

I just voted for a humor blog I’ve never read, so it’s time to go vote for a small blog I’ve never read.

The wonkerrati have to hang together or hang sep–no, that doesn’t make any sense. Off I go to vote for rumproast, unless this is a prank.

Murph January 5, 2009 at 9:56 pm

Liberal? I didn’t know Wonkette had a liberal slant. I mean, you go after elected officials that are ass-fucking kids, or trying to, or soliciting blow jobs in public places, but I don’t see any bias in that…

Texan Bulldoggette January 5, 2009 at 9:56 pm

Not sure how they came up with their list of nominees, but Wonkette is nothing near similar to Talking Points Memo (& I’m sure others are vastly different as well). It’s kind of like comparing apples to donkey nuts, but whatever. Oh, Wonkette is comfortably in the lead.

HedCase January 5, 2009 at 9:56 pm

can we stuff the ballot box like that RNC suggestions site?

pos wonkette? Them’s fightin’ words here in Okrafuckinghoma. I’m a good mind to kick your ass, conflatulent missy.

ladymacbeth January 5, 2009 at 10:51 pm

having made the mistake of linking to something related to something likely linked to confluence i found:

“Creating that kind of positive environment is often disregarded by those in power. That lack has been a hallmark of both the Bush administration and now Obama’s inner circle. They have not achieved what women, who are culturally groomed from birth to be nurturers, often do with more ease: create respect and connections between people, rather than viewing their roles as merely facilitators of events.”

DustBowlBlues January 5, 2009 at 10:57 pm

BTW–I had nothing more to look forward to this evening than a two hour Very Important Documentary about the nation that ate our IT industry, and because of pos wonkette, more fondly known as “our” wonkette, I have the warm fuzzies of helping a bunch of losers achieve yet another meaningless award. And you’re telling me my life isn’t working out?

Walter Sobchak January 5, 2009 at 10:57 pm

Calling back to earlier, “The Confluence” appears to be written in Goblinese. Seriously.

“Seems they are running a story that says Camp Pamp knew all about the relationship between A$$alo Bill and David Rubin at least since August, when Judas introduced him to Pampers’ money changers at the DNC Pampers Coronation Extravaganza on Mount Olympus. Whoops! So much for being, “misled.””

nrelement January 5, 2009 at 11:30 pm

The Confluence is the last refuge of a political animal that by now should be extinct, the PUMA. These people think that they are the ultimate guardians of liberalism even though they voted largely for McCain. There are reasons to dislike or mistrust Obama but theirs amount to the fact that Obama has a penis. That’s his crime. I won’t dispute that were blatant sexism in the primary campaign but that’s not the reason Senator Clinton lost. As a Clinton supporter, she ran a lousy campaign. They’ll never admit that however. Clinton can do no wrong and Obama can do nothing right. They pounce on every perceived failure of Obama.

The Confluence has largely female audience, a few gays and one very petulant clown. Their bloggers, with the exception of Dakinat (an economist in New Orleans) are all rank hypocrites with no political experience. The founder and owner of the blog is a woman who blogs as ‘riverdaughter’. Based in NJ, she’s an ex-Kossack and an ex-Jehovah’s Witness. She thinks that she and her little group will be savior of the Democratic Party. I am not quite sure how. It’s a pretty cultist place that specializes in unrelenting snark and sheer stupidity. During the primaries, during the summer and the fall campaign, anything that was anti-Obama, no matter the source, found its onto the Confluence. The bloggers are fond of quoting Thomas Sowell, Amir Taheri, Karl Rove, Cal Thomas in their pursuit of all things anti-Obama. It’s not really a blog but a forum of vile hate.

Greener420 January 6, 2009 at 12:06 am

haha, the weblogs website crashed

nrelement January 6, 2009 at 12:15 am

One more thing about the Confluence. They love push polls just like their political cousins, the Freeper. Seriously, they will sit around and try to skew the results of any push poll they think they can manipulate. One of their bloggers, Heidi Li Feldman, is the ring leader in this regard. She’ll submit a story to Best of the Blogs on Real Clear Politics and then get the Confluence readership to vote for it. Not that they have ever gotten anything recognized. Their writing is piss poor, obtuse and simply devoid of content. It’s just snark.

No Quarter is the other main PUMA site. It has more credibility in the sense that its principal is Larry Johnson who is ex-CIA and ex-State and runs an international security consulting firm. NQ-USA is also likely more deranged. They were the ones who brought the whole “whitey tape” and the COLB (Texas Darlin’)issue to the fore. Other PUMA sites include Pumapundit and the Daily PUMA.

The readers all tend to be older women who really wanted a woman as President and came to hate Obama for one reason or another. The Confluence is not a serious blog. Issues are rarely discussed. They spend 90% of time talking about their own lives and making snide comments about Obama. Their latest campaign is to get Harriet Christian appointed to the US Senate from NY. They even sent Paterson a petition to that effect. Lunatics is what they are. A fair number of them are actually Republicans, there’s a woman on the blog who goes by Afrocity, basically a black Ann Coulter.

The Confluence isn’t liberal, it’s wholly illiberal. Dare to disagree with them and they’ll ban you. The rational is that The Confluence is “a refuge” for Clinton supporters. If Senator Clinton ever read it, she’d be mortified.

This contest, however, is a big deal for them. They gamed the system to have themselves nominated. I’ve been following the PUMA blogs for over six months now. I’ve written a few pieces here and there on the PUMA movement thinking that they might be a factor in the election (they weren’t) but now I read them for sheer amusement. They’re very bizarre people. They’re passionate but they lack sophistication and frankly erudition. I get the sense many of them only have a high school education.

Good luck! I’ll be rooting for you.

Hey, this is fun. I’ve now eaten more cookies than a stoned Girl Scout troop, and voted for Wonkette like thirteen gazillion times, give or take a few orders of magnitude.

Does this heroic and ingenious effort mean I get my comments bumped up automatically, and y’all have to be nice to me and quote me and say “WIN!” and stuff?

hopefully

[re=209448]stopmebeforeitypeagain[/re]: Leave of the court to amend: should read “did NOT vote for Wonkette like thirteen gazillion ….”

How silly of me. Apologies to all.

c-freak January 6, 2009 at 12:57 am

i thought i was voting for some TRUCKNUTZ but whateveah. same diff.

Robobot January 6, 2009 at 12:58 am

[re=209436]nrelement[/re]: Oh ew. They must be stopped. Thankfully our Wonkette has strength in numbers and gray matter on its side. We’re also really good at winning things.

villageatrois January 6, 2009 at 1:19 am

[re=209403]nrelement[/re]: “It’s a pretty cultist place that specializes in unrelenting snark and sheer stupidity.” That’s the phrase I was looking for. Having voted for Wonkette, I needed a justification. When someone here says something sheerly or even opaquely stupid, I attribute it to Overly Subtle Humorous Ironic Tone.

[re=209294]Josh Fruhlinger[/re]: Josh – is there a contest? The other blogs nominated are…how do you say? Not FUNNY. Pull some strings with Margo, she owes you and will get things done.

Hostile Michigander January 6, 2009 at 1:48 am

[re=209331]Murph[/re]: It’s not Wonkette’s fault that reality has a well-known liberal bias.

And it’s strictly the Republican’s own fault that the GOP has a secret ass-fucking bias.

Lionel Hutz Esq. January 6, 2009 at 2:51 am

[re=209332]Texan Bulldoggette[/re]: So, Wonkette equals Donkey Nuts?

[re=209417]Josh Fruhlinger[/re]: Josh, just don’t agree to take Ken’s son fishing, and you should be all right.

StuckInTheMiddle January 6, 2009 at 3:17 am

I just voted…wait…this is a liberal blog? I just thought it was funny.

Lionel Hutz Esq. January 6, 2009 at 3:59 am

[re=209480]StuckInTheMiddle[/re]: We are amateurs compared to the true comics at the conservative blogs, so they put us with the Libtards.

Bruno January 6, 2009 at 4:39 am

[re=209351]Pop Socket[/re]: You’re right, how could those judges think moderate conservative thought is at all humorous. In any case, Jon Swift’s got my vote, if for no other reason for “best use of cats”

Captain Swing January 6, 2009 at 6:00 am

The enemy is being soundly defeated, Lord Layne.

Wonkette: The Most.

The rest: Toast.

We should keep on hammering them though, both at home and at work, if for no other reason than these Confluence people seem like the types who will get more and more pissed off as the magnitude of their defeat grows.

tootsieroll January 6, 2009 at 7:47 am

May I also plug my favorite Gossip blog, D-Listed? Michael K is the snark to the rich and famous as Wonkette is to politics. :)

I just know that when you uber-geeky Wonketeers aren’t busy online ballot-box stuffing, huffing gas or trying to out-snark each other’s posts, you are most likely playing with your half-gay iPhones. C’mon, I know you do.

As a token of my eternal gratitude for enriching my – and America’s- political dialogue (diatribe?) with such gems as “Mooselini,” “WALNUTS!,” “Hopey,” “Bitterz,” and “Muslin,” I have done a very special Hopey Inaugural iPhone Wallpaper that was inspired by and resonates with that snide, Wonketeer-like humor. I hope you will enjoy it and find it worthy.

Please find time to download it between your sessions of “21 PRO,” “Cro-Mag Rally” and “FaceBook Mobile,” OK? In the likely event that y’all trounce all those other Libtard Sites, I would LOVE to do a Limited-Edition Commemorative “Wonkette Wins” iPhone Wallpaper as well as a very trendy ” Wonkette – branded, Limited Edition Hopey Inaugural iPhone Wallpaper” that could only be accessed by Wonkette contributors.

If you like what you see, tell Ken and the gang. It would be great viral advertising medium for your site.

Peace Out from what’s left of Bush Country.

Done and done. Trucknutz to everyone else. Losers all.

i’m more than a little frightened that the michael jackson fan forum got a nod for best online community; yikes i can only imagine what that place is like.

twowheeljunkie January 6, 2009 at 12:05 pm

I have done my duty and voted for my Wonkette. It is the least I can do for you that keep me entertained at my boring ass job.

yourblogsux January 6, 2009 at 10:58 pm

Y’all are so hateful and childish I voted for the Confluence. :)

TRUECRISTIANN January 7, 2009 at 2:02 pm

[re=211325]yourblogsux[/re]: Listen there you rude little creep, we get your type in here all the time. Do you honestly think you are the first semi-literate heathen to stomp in here and tell us we’re wrong? Please!

People like you are a dime a dozen, and Hell is where all of you are headed. But for some reason, you stop by here first. To tell us how wrong, intolerant, hateful, misguided, ignorant, and confused we all are. Well listen idiot, you’re the one who is wrong about EVERYTHING! We are True Christians™

TRUECRISTIANN January 9, 2009 at 3:18 pm

Dead on target, as usual. Obama is the product of many things. Racist priests, socialist friends and Chicago politics but you have to add to that list the press. The MSM has plugged their ears and put a blindfold over their eyes.

LisB January 13, 2009 at 12:29 am

Well, I love everybody, and I love all blogs equally. Any place that allows us all to act like the asshats we are is a place I want to call home.
