Hard times.Poverty: it’s America’s hottest new trend! Everybody’s hopping on the bandwagon! Poors are the new yuppies, etc.! And yet certain elected representatives in your state may still not be on board with anti-poverty legislation, because they are mean. Want to find out how people have voted in your state or district? Go to this leetle interactive map dealy at the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law’s Poverty Scorecard and see who you should publicly shame! (Hint: Start with Wyoming.) The party of God hates the poor. Great.

comradepaulson February 19, 2009 at 3:26 pm

Poverty is the new Crocs.

tehbenton February 19, 2009 at 3:28 pm

*snort* Kenny Marchant of Texas got an F-minus. How delightfully spiteful.

digibal235 February 19, 2009 at 3:28 pm

I live in Louisiana. 18..6% poverty rate and David “Diaperfucker” Vitter scored an 11/100.

Serolf Divad February 19, 2009 at 3:29 pm

My home state of Maryland scores pretty well. The one guy who gets an F is a Republican named “Roscoe.” Why doesn’t that surprise me?

OffTheRecord February 19, 2009 at 3:30 pm

Jim DeMint and Bob Corker both got an F-. How is that even possible?

Oh, and Tom Tancredo, but that isn’t really a surprise cause the poors are obviously Mexicans.

Mr Blifil February 19, 2009 at 3:30 pm

I am given to understand that as long as the poors have a cable TV hookup, a game console and a couple of used titles, the social structure will be prevented from collapsing into maurauding gun-toting gangs raping, looting, pillaging, and revenge killing on whites. Plus Sargent Shriver was not only NOT a Sergeant, he was rich as fuck. While we’re at it let’s send Sargent Shriver a game console so he can GET WITH THE FUCKING PROGRAM.

SayItWithWookies February 19, 2009 at 3:35 pm

Ha ha, this is silly. Ronald Reagan ended poverty back in 1983.

Cape Clod February 19, 2009 at 3:36 pm

Everyone in Massachusetts got an 100 except for Stephen Lynch who got a 94. Our public fountains pour out welfare checks.

Advocatus_Diaboli February 19, 2009 at 3:38 pm

Woo Hoo, Vermont’s number fucking one in NOT hating teh poorz. Of course, that’s ’cause everyone here is so poor.

Anyone notice how New England is like the smart kid in law school who fucks up the grading curve?

Mr Blifil February 19, 2009 at 3:39 pm

In some ways it sucks living in an extremely liberal Dem district/city/state. Every single one of my Reps and Senators scored A+ 100%. At least poverty’s no longer a problem in my city!

El Pinche February 19, 2009 at 3:39 pm

Haha…go ahead Gov. Perry refuse the funds. You’ll see south, west, and central texas rise and kick you and kunt bailey hutchinson’s ass. These state Democrats should make ads showing what they’re not going to get and make it clear the assholes behind it.

lennixlewis February 19, 2009 at 3:40 pm

Hint: Democrats = Good, Republicans = Bad

Gopherit February 19, 2009 at 3:41 pm

[re=247422]tehbenton[/re]: So did arizona’s Jake Flake. You can’t lose with a Flake in the House.

Can I say how proud I am that McCain isn’t even rated? He missed all of those votes, the bitch.

Gopherit February 19, 2009 at 3:42 pm

frumious_bandersnatch February 19, 2009 at 3:43 pm

Why do I have a sneaking suspicion that the site is commonly used as a high-tech hunting-and-harassment ‘fishfinder’ device for wealthy Republicans? The few Bachmann is willing to admit to knowing, anyway.

On the Border February 19, 2009 at 3:45 pm

What’s up with “not rated?” I can understand Barack Obama not being rated because his rating would be so intense it would blind mortals, but I think we can probably figure out how Ted Kennedy voted on some of this shit.

Mothra Stewart February 19, 2009 at 3:50 pm

California get 16 F’s & D’s, all Republican! Wasn’t Sargent Shriver the father of Maria, wife of Governor Arnold?

bitchincamaro February 19, 2009 at 3:55 pm

After his drunk driving conviction and that bastard child he produced got his ass thrown out of office, Vito Fessola (R-NY) can get to the back of the soup line and just stay the fuck there.

Texan Bulldoggette February 19, 2009 at 3:58 pm

[re=247448]El Pinche[/re]: Sorry, but all of NTexas, ETX & WTX would have to be obliterated for that to happen. Only the Valley, central TX & large cities vote Democrat (for the most part). That being said, I would LOVE to have a decent Democrat gubernatorial candidate instead some of the lame ass Ds who I can’t even remember their names.

comradepaulson February 19, 2009 at 4:02 pm

There’s no way my state (Michigan) can hate The Poors. We are Poors Central, a Poors Valhalla, if you will. I challenge all Bitters to find me a state that’s more buttfucked than my state at this moment. Can’t, can you? Even California got it’s shit together for the final curtain.

Anyway, woo hoo, lots of Teh Poors. Tell us Michiganders something we don’t know.

pondscum February 19, 2009 at 4:02 pm

How can anyone justify voting against the Lilly Ledbetter Act?

irativ February 19, 2009 at 4:04 pm

Uh, it sure looks like Republicans hate the poors. Who vote for them anyway.

Except in Maine, those “Republican” Senators, who voted for Barry’s half breed Muslin stimulus/handout (for poors, obviously) love the poors and they get A+ as opposed to pretty much every other “representative” in Congress.

Oh, and look at Tom Tancredo (R-Coloradnomexicans). He hate the poors so much that he got an F- which is obviously because poors are sometimes differently coloured (which in Colorado generally means Mexican/illegal/Muslin). Oh, Tom Tancredo, please run on a ticket with Sarah Palin in 2012.

MargeSimpsonsBlackFriend February 19, 2009 at 4:05 pm

Shocker: Eric Cantor got an F.

Numbat Dundee February 19, 2009 at 4:09 pm

[re=247489]Texan Bulldoggette[/re]: But then you’ve got Ron Paul. Sure, he’s got an F-, but that’s just a cunning plan to inspire the Sheeple to revolt.

Squish February 19, 2009 at 4:22 pm

Hrumph. Predictable. Cover up the left side of the screen, and if the Congressperson in question scored a D or an F, it’s guaranteed that they also have a little red “R” next to their name.

Giant Robot February 19, 2009 at 4:24 pm

I wouldn’t say that republicans HATE the poor… at least not as much as they hate immigrants, minorities, gays and women. It’s more like they strongly dislike the poor.

Bruno February 19, 2009 at 4:28 pm

In Wyoming, 1 Dick Cheney must pull up the average for a few hundred thousand people. So the poverty rate is probably 33% higher?

Texan Bulldoggette February 19, 2009 at 4:28 pm

[re=247514]Numbat Dundee[/re]: Meh, he’s a rich doctor (in his former life). Of course he doesn’t care about the poors (unless they have vaginas since he was a OB/GYN). Bill Clinton got into the wrong profession!

Giant Robot February 19, 2009 at 4:28 pm

To really get to the hate you have to get down to the local level. Our city council makes Michelle Bachman look sane…

Bruno February 19, 2009 at 4:29 pm

[re=247429]OffTheRecord[/re]: F- is the grade possible when you don’t show up for the exam and you fuck the teachers underage son.

Toonces February 19, 2009 at 4:32 pm

Good old tiny RI got the overall #1 ranking – with all members scoring a perfect 100%.

Georgia Burning February 19, 2009 at 4:33 pm

Of course these guys hate the poors. What have the poors done lately to cut taxes for rich people? Everybody knows the only way out of the economic mess is to cut rich people’s taxes and vote (again) to ban gay marriage.

Bruno February 19, 2009 at 4:35 pm

How many of those Jeebus luvers are below the poverty line and voted fer those jokers. My guess: all of them

CivicHoliday February 19, 2009 at 4:40 pm

Big MO isn’t so bad overall, but I’m stuck with Douchy McDouchbag Todd Akin as my representative. Godsdamnit, he is such an asshat.

OzoneTom February 19, 2009 at 4:43 pm

[re=247448]El Pinche[/re]: I believe that there’s language in the bill that lets a state’s legislature go around a governor to request the money, so Perry knows that he’s not going to lose any money for the state by his grandstanding.

Monsieur Grumpe February 19, 2009 at 4:46 pm

We still have Norm Coleman listed and they gave him an A. I guess Republicans in limbo don’t hate the poorz.

OzoneTom February 19, 2009 at 4:57 pm

[re=247547]CivicHoliday[/re]: Not to mention Luetkemeyer and Kit Bond, back home touting the stimulus bill they worked to prevent from happening…

Lascauxcaveman February 19, 2009 at 5:18 pm

Here in the Soviet of Washington (State), the worst our R’s could do was a D. One of ‘em even got a B!

The Dems are all boring straight-A kids.

Thegreatbacon February 19, 2009 at 5:26 pm

In Minnesota we only hate other states’ dirty poor people. Ours are endearing.

user-of-owls February 19, 2009 at 6:10 pm

Yah, so explain to me please how Arkansas’ sole Republican (I know, you didn’t see THAT coming, did you?), Rep. Boozman (ibid.), scored a 47/100 and got an A+ grade. I thought only the Ivy legacies got graded on that curve.

[re=247567]OzoneTom[/re]: true true. at least we have Claire.

lazynamepicker February 19, 2009 at 8:19 pm

The governors of Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas are threatening not to accept the stimulus funds (which legally they probably cannot do). This is either political genius or political suicide, depending on how much farther the economy goes down the toilet.

badmuthagoose February 19, 2009 at 10:00 pm

Hey Texan Bulldoggette, slow down on obliterating North Texas! Dallas County has been solid blue in the last two election cycles! And we’re working on Tarrant County.

All those other areas are on their own, though. We got enough work right here.

hobospacejungle February 20, 2009 at 12:02 am

YES! My rep Lloyd Doggett (whose office actually replies with sensible emails and who voted against the bank bailout last fall) gets an A+!!

Fuck the rest of Texas, especially our senators. May a plane crash claim their worthless lives. Or better yet may they find themselves impoverished with no one to help them. And may I find them in that state so I can spit on them. Check that: so I may piss on them.

ms_mcgee February 20, 2009 at 1:00 am

Hm. Is there a curve on the grading scale? With the high scores that Oregon legistlators got on fighting poverty you’d think that, you know, we’d have less poverty here.

El Pinche February 20, 2009 at 2:57 am

[re=247489]Texan Bulldoggette[/re]: omg, that’s true. i don’t even remember any of them. also texas dem. congressman.

windupbird February 20, 2009 at 7:26 am

Mass. here – I’m more worried about the people who don’t qualify for services/benefits…….the ones whose income is “too high” but don’t make enough to cover the cost of living in metro Boston. Those people fall through the cracks.

Joey Ratz February 20, 2009 at 3:14 pm

[re=247456]Gopherit[/re]: Huzzah for Arizona! My Congresscreature Gabrielle Gifford only got a B – I guess that’s how she balances the diverging interests in our district: college kids in Tucson and Mexican-hating crackers down towards the border.
