  • Shooting rampages are the hot news of the week. An Alabama man killed basically everybody in his family and some strangers and also himself. [Los Angeles Times]
  • Meanwhile in Germany, a 17-year-old boy attacked a high school and killed at least ten people. [New York Times]
  • Were his employees complicit in Bernie Madoff’s $65 billion Ponzi swindle? His lack of a plea bargain suggests that Madoff isn’t cooperating with the prosecution by giving up a whole lot of names. [Bloomberg]
  • We have probably not seen the end of stimulus packages so get ready to spend again, America! [Washington Post]
  • Citigroup and GM may get de-listed from the Dow if the government continues to invest heavily in the companies. [Reuters]
  • Local governments are coming up with their own homegrown solutions to their crushing economic problems. [Wall Street Journal]

are shooting rampages one way of decreasing the number of people who will end up on social welfare programs?

Terry March 11, 2009 at 9:09 am

Wow, Carrollton, Texas, is putting in New Deal style local programs? Don’t they know that those are librul things? That FDR caused the decline and imminent collapse of western society and all? That they might be labeled “socialist”. Oh, wait, people need jobs and these programs are practical short term solutions? Ok, then. Never mind.

Between Bernie Madoff, Bernie Williams, Bernie the dead guy from that Andrew McCarthy movie, Bernie Goldberg of “Bias” fame, and Mr. Bernie, the Jewish nuclear power magnate from The Simpsons, they’re hitting about .400

Feh, all companies should do what AT&T is doing, bill me for a termination charge on my cell phone after I switched when my contract was done. Free moneys!

It’s astounding, time is fleeting
Foreclosures takes their toll
But listen closely, not for very much longer
The Rich just lost control

I remember doing the Stimulus
Drinking those moments when
The bitching would hit me and the GOP would be calling
Let’s fight the stimulus again…
Let’s fight the stimulus again!

It’s just a jump to the left
Then take a shot at the right
With your hands outstretched
Grab Chinese backed bonds in tight
It’s the wingnut crying that really drives you insane,
Let’s do the Stimulus again!

You know, if we all carried guns and were paranoid survivalists with mild to moderate anti-social tendencies and a hair trigger, stuff like this would…

…choose one:

a) not happen
b) trigger a bloody, violent chain reaction where everybody starts shooting everybody else ’cause no one’s quite sure who the pyschopath is who started the shooting in the first place.

bfstevie@yahoo.com March 11, 2009 at 9:35 am

Got an e-mail this morning from Michael Steele, asking for the bling bling to stop the Obama administration from threatening our freedoms with their “nanny-state, Big Brother mentality” by reimposing the “so-called ‘assault’ gun ban”. He says the dems are using “fear tactics”.

Gee willikers.

So, ya think the Industrial Revolution and Capitalism’s “Manifest Destiny” with its incessant need to alleviate the burden of “surplus capital,” vis à vis, China and the East, is not quite working out for us? Can we get a do-over on the corporate reconstruction of American Capitalism in the 1890s please?

So when did Bernie Made-off’s scam go from $50bn to $65bn? I was already wondering if the $50bn was based on what people invested (had actually given him) or what they his fake statements told them they had earned…

Sussemilch March 11, 2009 at 9:51 am

Crazy me… if I wanted to solve the economy thing I’d ask for $760 Billion. Then I’d reduce unemployment to 4% by hiring 4 million people for three years and send a million more to college for 4 years. I’d separate the employees out by State, and put the people with advanced degrees in charge. They would work with the Governor’s offices to spend two weeks coming up with the top needs for each state, and choose project leaders to build staffing plans to accomplish each task within three years.

Not sure what they’d do, but you could be damn sure there wouldn’t be any trash along any highway in the whole country by 2013.

During this time of trouble, I turn to John Rich…

“My daddy taught me
In this county everyone’s the same
You work hard for your dollar
And you never pass the blame
When it don’t go your way

Now I see all these big shots
Whining on my evening news
About how their losing billions
And it’s up to me and you
To come running to the rescue

Well pardon me if I don’t she’d a tear
Cuz they’re selling make believe
And we don’t buy that here

Because in the real world they’re
Shutting Detroit down
While the boss man takes his
Bonus pay and jets on outta town

DC’s paying out the banker
As the farmers auction ground
And while their living up on Wall Street
In that New York City town
Here in the real world they’re
Shutting Detroit down
Here in the real world they’re
Shutting Detroit down

Well that old mans been working
Hard in that plant most all his life
And now his pension plans
Been cut in half and
He can’t afford to dye
And it’s a crying shame
Cuz he aint the one to blame
When I look down and see his
Callused hands Well let me tell you friend
It gets me fighting mad

Because in the real world they’re
Shutting Detroit down
While the boss man takes his
Bonus pay and jets on outta town”

…Looks like the spend-happy days of “Save A Horse, Ride a Cowboy” are no more. Well pardon me if I don’t shed a tear.

The poor Germans spend all their time shitting their pants over the re-emergence of the far-right, meanwhile every couple of years a kid goes to school & blows away 15 or so people. Maybe the kids were just pissed off that German expellees from the east weren’t getting proper recognition as true victims of World War 2.

Or as Cartman put it so well in South Park The Movie: “What the fuck is wrong with German people?”

I live within 30 minutes of all three Bama crime scenes and, from what I’ve heard, it’s a good thing crazy people can’t shoot straight ’cause the L.A. (Lower Alabama) shooter expended a tremendous number of rounds for that body-count. The German teen really had his shit together by comparison! Maybe it’s the vastly better education system over thar in Yrrup, just the general cool smugness Germans display when carrying out a slaughter or perhaps gun control laws that make it necessary to be sure every shot counts with the low ammo capacity guns like we will soon be restricted to…

miss_emish March 11, 2009 at 12:03 pm

[re=262415]Yaybuls[/re]: way to make me misty eyed at work. seriously.

As for Mr.Madeoff, I can’t imagine that he was able to maintain that scheme by himself, for as long as they believe he has been just takin’ money and…what? using it for tp? He’s shrewd, he spun a beautiful web for people. It’s just too detailed and too big for him to do it himself. All those statements people got! Now, usually it’s family that gets in on crime together. I personally think that whole confession to his sons thing is a crock. Sonny knew already. They knew that jig was up and wanted to go out on their terms. It’s all a story. They don’t know how to tell the truth!

Texan Bulldoggette March 11, 2009 at 12:09 pm

Nothing like a couple shooting rampages to get Contessa Brewer (MSNBC flack) to quit asking “Is the Obama administration trying to do too much?” I know Walnuts couldn’t walk & chew gum at the same time, but Barry’s not just thinking about the next 30 to 60 days. It’s called the big picture! Jesus, people, STFU.

[re=262507]Texan Bulldoggette[/re]: I HATE that meme. Like what do people expect him to do? Put a huge “Do Not Disturb” sign up on the White House door to let everybody know all he’s doing is studying up on how to fix the banks?
