Baby’s got a brand new bag. Er, ‘do. I mean Mrs. Obama, ma’am. Mrs. Obama’s got a new ‘do and I’m speechless.

Zadig July 23, 2009 at 8:41 am

Why wasn’t the decision-making process on a live feed on whitehouse.gov? Why was there no public referendum on Michelle’s hairdo? Barack Obama has broken his campaign pledge of transparency to the American people.

hobospacejunkie July 23, 2009 at 8:49 am

It seems like the president may have sneaked in a talk with Professor Gates while sneaking a smoke break. Obama rarely says anything unplanned & he sounded rather sure of himself when asserting that the Cambridge police acted “stupidly.

lionboy July 23, 2009 at 8:59 am

I hate myself for giving a shit about it, but the haircut makes Michelle look older and slightly republican.

MargeSimpsonsBlackFriend July 23, 2009 at 8:59 am

Eh, I don’t think it’s a new hairdo, and I don’t think it’s even cut. I think it’s just pulled back the same way it was at the Time 100 Gala. Google for hawt pix people.

Yes, I’m sad to know this, but Jesus the only constant in the ever changing news cycle is what Michelle Obama is wearing and what she is doing with her hair.

blader July 23, 2009 at 9:03 am

uppity 1st lady gets new ‘do means race wars soon to follo

Don Juanquete July 23, 2009 at 9:04 am

What about Hillary’s new ‘do? Heeeeehhhnn?

Don Juanquete July 23, 2009 at 9:07 am

[re=368714]lionboy[/re]: Let’s put this together with Barry’s Mom-jeans, and 60s ‘do, 60s jeans, smokes, cocktail parties in the White House…I think it’s time for MadMen Season Three!

house of the blue lights July 23, 2009 at 9:09 am

I really really wanted it to be a ‘fro.

BadKitty July 23, 2009 at 9:12 am

Could Michelle get any hawter? Why, yes, she can and the new ‘do proves it. Rrrowrrrr…..

finallyhappy July 23, 2009 at 9:12 am

I’m hoping for something on the girls’ back to school clothing followed by reams of outrage from sean, rush, red state and freepers.

hobospacejunkie July 23, 2009 at 9:13 am

” [re=368714]lionboy[/re]: Ouch. You really know how to stick the knife in & twist it, telling a black woman she looks Republican.

ella July 23, 2009 at 9:27 am

Her new ‘do looks great. I’d love something similar if hair that short didn’t make my face look like a dinner plate.

hobospacejunkie July 23, 2009 at 9:28 am

[re=368724]freakishlystrong[/re]: If you’re exhausted just think how knackered the poor freepers must be. Maintaining their current level of reactionary crankitude must be positively draining, the poor dears.

gurukalehuru July 23, 2009 at 9:30 am

Gee, I feel like I’m going OT, commenting on something other than Michelle’s hair, but who is this Shagory guy and wtf does he mean by “before all the facts are in?”
Professor Gates was there, on the scene, as he was the one being arrested. I’d say the facts, for him at least, are in. If he’s doing a documentary, that’s to get the facts OUT.

gurukalehuru July 23, 2009 at 9:31 am

[re=368719]house of the blue lights[/re]: Oh, hell to the yes.

freakishlystrong July 23, 2009 at 9:41 am

[re=368728]hobospacejunkie[/re]: Hate is energy! I have a couple of family memebers who are FREEPERS and I cannot even email them. One has been on the payroll of the DOD since the start of the “liberation” of I-Raq, so, basically, has been receiving a “socialist” salary. That fact, if pointed out to her, would make her head explode and thousands upon thousands of “W”‘s would be littered everywhere. It gives me a sad though….

Well, the cop gave someone the business for burglarising their own home. That is pretty hard to defend in most cases.

paolaccio July 23, 2009 at 9:55 am

Graham’s a Republigoblin, not a Demoncrap.

paolaccio July 23, 2009 at 9:56 am

Oh, nvm, I get it….

snoidoid July 23, 2009 at 9:57 am

Well, I for one am just plain tired of the waste in gummint spending. First, Obama takes Mrs. Obama on a date, which we paid for, and now the First Lady has a new hairdo, which we paid for. With our taxes. When will the tax-and-spend Democrats stop wasting our money?

m_supercomputer July 23, 2009 at 9:57 am

Okay, health care is important and stuff, but Amazon bought my Zappos? Oh, fuck no. Where’s the outrage, sheeple?!

onemoresexylibrarian July 23, 2009 at 9:57 am

It was bound to happen: Michelle ended up with the same haircut as every woman in D.C.

x111e7thst July 23, 2009 at 10:02 am

[re=368743]m_supercomputer[/re]: In case of contract dispute with the shoe designer Amazon will send people to your house to confiscate your shoes.

WadISay July 23, 2009 at 10:11 am

Michelle unveiled her new hairdo at a White House celebration of country music. I’m guessing the new do was actually a helmet with built-in earplugs.

finallyhappy July 23, 2009 at 10:21 am

[re=368753]WadISay[/re]: I heard part of Brad Paisley’s song that he told Hopey was inspired by his election. I think it says “wake up, Martin Luther King” and ” there was a lady on a bus”. In case I ever wondered why I don’t listen to country music- I’m pretty sure MLK is dead, not asleep and someone tell Paisley that Rosa Parks is the lady’s name.

bitchincamaro July 23, 2009 at 10:22 am

Zelaya should forget Honduras, kick back in Costa Rica, learn to surf, chase the chicas. Pura vida, si. Politics and civil war, no.

lionboy July 23, 2009 at 10:38 am

[re=368722]hobospacejunkie[/re]:I said “slightly Republican.” She can fix it by wearing a peace sign t-shirt and a pair of do-me pumps.

InsidiousTuna July 23, 2009 at 10:41 am

From the FLOTUS-Haircut story on Politco’s comment section:

“Just shake a can of pennies at her and make her go away.”

Classy people over there.

A Better American Than YOU July 23, 2009 at 11:17 am

The Harvard community’s rush to judgment reminds me of how quickly Duke people dissed the lacrosse team. I still say that all parties involved may be assholes.

As I white guy who’s been hassled by black cops, I didn’t think it was ever in my interest to suggest racism — but then I don’t have any books to sell.

AxmxZ July 23, 2009 at 11:25 am

Unbreak the alert and turn off the Drudge sirens – FLOTUS’ hair is just pinned back.

Zadig July 23, 2009 at 11:41 am

[re=368826]A Better American Than YOU[/re]: I think most people probably aren’t suggesting racism, we’re suggesting that the cop in question was an asshole and abused his power.

glamourdammerung July 23, 2009 at 11:48 am

[re=368826]A Better American Than YOU[/re]: All parties involved very well could be assholes. However, it is really strange to have a cop hassle someone for breaking into their own house.

qaf July 23, 2009 at 11:58 am

Crowley’s best defense against being a racist is that he gave CPR to Reggie Lewis (unsuccessfully). Fail.

Cambridge police have a pretty bad reputation in that direction. I hear of one ER doctor that gave up driving to work because she was always being pulled over for Driving While Black.

tootsieroll July 23, 2009 at 12:03 pm

Boston’s best and brightest are going nuts over this thing, and now that Barry gave his opinion on the teevee it’s even worse. I am really glad he actually answered the question instead of being a typical politician, but seriously, Hopey just gave the Nutters more ammo for them to hate on him for. You should see the things they are writing in comments.

azw88 July 23, 2009 at 12:15 pm

That’s a very Diana Ross and the Supreme-ish hairdo. Why does the first lady hve to keep reminding us she is black?
And country music in the White House, wasn’t 8 years of Bush enough? Obama is now pandering to the redneck, NASCAR crowd!

azw88 July 23, 2009 at 12:20 pm

“His actions at the scene of this matter were consistent with his training, with the informed policies and practices of the Department, and with applicable legal standards.”

So, they TRAIN their cops to arrest black men in their own home, and it is LEGAL?

Wow, how long before Pat Buchanan and Rush Limbaugh get gey-married and move to Cambridge?

hobospacejunkie July 23, 2009 at 1:15 pm

Once Gates’ identity was established the story should’ve ended. Short of any actual criminal behavior on Gates’ part, the cop should’ve manned up & left rather than arrest Gates, which he must have known would’ve stirred the hornets’ nest. Citing Gates for loud & tumultuous behavior is as good as an admission that the cop had nothing as dropping the charges was. Egomaniacal police fail.

Neilist July 23, 2009 at 1:17 pm

When, precisely, did throwing arrogant HAAR-vard academics in jail become a “bad” thing?

Because I’ve got a VERY long list of the same that I would LOVE to see in the Barbed Wire Hotel for the duration, e.g., Alan “Israeli Genocide Is GOOD!” Dershowitz’ Lawrence “I Can’t Believe I Wrecked The Economy” Summers, etc.

Oh, did I mention the 43rd President of the United States? HAAR-vard MBA grad, wasn’t he?

[Sgt. Crowley: A word of advice: Next time just shoot him. Leave the throwaway .32 cal. Spanish nickle plated revovler by his right hand, and make sure your partner understands the story before the shooting team/IA shows up to take your statements re “how the suspect went for a weapon . . . .”)

johnnypantalones July 23, 2009 at 1:19 pm

Love the attitude of the majority of those commenters that anyone who ever says boo to a cop needs to be arrested. Nah, that’s not an objectively pro-fascist sentiment at all!

doloras July 23, 2009 at 3:34 pm

I love the attitude that overthrowing democratically elected presidents is okay if they’re “socialists”. People go nuts when RedState says that here, but apparently it’s okay in Honduras. Will commenters be one day advising deposed Barry to “relax in Hawaii… learn to surf”?

Crazybroad July 23, 2009 at 4:37 pm

[re=368720]BadKitty[/re]: She sure puts Caribou thank-god-in-heaven-or-whatever-she’s-not-the-veep Barbie to shame, don’t she!

hobospacejunkie July 23, 2009 at 5:32 pm

[re=368949]johnnypantalones[/re]: Nicely said.

[re=369226]doloras[/re]: I assume you’re referring to comments in the Miami Herald? It looks like we just plain ignored Honduras here. I’m not OK with what happened in Honduras, though not surprised. The US and it’s allies/pimps have always massively over-reacted to any hint of socialism (or more accurately, democracy) in our hemisphere. It would be laughable if it weren’t so serious. Haiti is one example, Grenada (?) another. Just have the leader start talking about helping the poor & bam, coup d’état. Can’t have actual democracy spreading out under us (geographically-speaking.) It might, gasp, spread to US America!
