  • Democrat presidents have been trying to pass national health care since FDR’s time, and now it is very close, and everybody’s insurance costs will either stay the same, get a little bit cheaper, or get a whole lot cheaper, depending. And millions of people without health care coverage will have insurance. What’s not to hate? [Bloomberg]

“You will hear the president discuss clearly that this is not open-ended”
Robert Gibbs, White House spokesman

And I promise I won’t cum in your mouth. Also.

Sigh. I’d rather be anywhere else than here today.

..though it could be arranged, with just a word in Mr. Cheney’s ear…

WarAndG December 1, 2009 at 8:38 am

A-huh, I thought “Dubailand” said “Doobyland.” I like pictures.

Love the Elvis Costello reference this early in the morning, at least until teabaggers adopt the song after hearing the line, “only takes one itchy trigger . . .”

Hopey’s decision to send “35,000 vampires and werewolves to Afghanistan”… hmm, mass media mind control would be the best explanation of “New Moon’s” popularity. Nice prep job, Hollywood!

Seattle police have shot and killed Maurice Clemmons – or someone who looks very much like him.

proudgrampa December 1, 2009 at 9:13 am

Looks like the alleged cop-killer is dead, according to Huffington Post.

Afghanistan is just a sad, sad story. History has not taught us a goddam thing.

Think I will start drinking REAL early today…

[re=468598]WarAndG[/re]: I think Doobyland would be a hell of the theme park. Spaced Out Mountain. Stoners of the Carribean. The Psychedelic Parade. Goofy.

Huckabee cold murdered the cop-killer-dude himself. This is exactly like Vince Foster.

Looks like I’m pwned. I know it sounds petty but I wish I could get the $300+ I sent Obama back.

As far as national health care, looks like they Obama is trying an LBJ Great Society thing.

Accordion-o-rama December 1, 2009 at 12:52 pm

As long as they’re sparkly vampires, I’m OK with it.

Lascauxcaveman December 1, 2009 at 1:48 pm

That whole Dubai thing is a pretty spectacular monument to human hubris and the spirit of hucksterism. About a year and a half ago, when it was peaking, an ex-employee of mine who had just gotten his welding certification at the local community college almost signed on with an employment agency which would send him to Dubai where he would get room and board, and a remarkably generous salary payable in “company shares”. (Oh, Goody!)

He balked when they couldn’t even cough up his plane fare.

AlexisHidell December 1, 2009 at 2:45 pm

[re=468974]Lascauxcaveman[/re]: There was a lengthy article awhile back in the Daily Mail that examined the duplicity of Dubai. Part of it was about people from SE Asia who went under circumstances similar to your ex-employee but who found, once they got there, that they’d been essentially duped into slave labor. Really excellent piece; wish I could remember the title.

Having read that older Mail article, I’m especially struck by the NYT pictures – the juxtaposition of the unpaid workers with the guffawing German businessdouches could be straight out of The Onion.

LowerdPeninsula December 2, 2009 at 12:58 am

[re=468833]Paul Tardy[/re]: I wish. He’s doing a Republican-lite thing. He went from advocating single-payer to pimping some horrible “health care reform” that does little more than feed entire new generations of Americans to the now only slightly-more-regulated insurance industries. Great Society, my ass; this man is afraid to do anything without first appeasing his critics.
