Oh, to be gay!General Warlord and “the one that the U.N. will trust about stuff” Colin Powell has more or less been in favor of repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell — his favorite policy ever a mere 15 to 20 years ago — for the past couple of years, now that he is a communist. Today he made it official, giving more Americans hope that the Obama administration for once has its shit together in the roll-out of this one. He announced in a statement, “I fully support the new approach presented to the Senate Armed Services Committee this week by Secretary of Defense Gates and Admiral Mullen.” He added that he also supports changing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. IOW, “The US Army is missing its recruiting goals so much we need the Fightin’ Gheyz!”

NoWireHangers February 3, 2010 at 1:17 pm

Well duh. Who’s anti-DADT if not the construction worker from The Village People.

TGY February 3, 2010 at 1:17 pm

…wouldn’t that make him a ‘General Gaylord’? Or perhaps a ‘Commissar Gaylord’, since he’s also a communist.

Tommmcatt February 3, 2010 at 1:18 pm

The first George W. Administration was a lot more musical than the current one, have you noticed?

OReillysVibrator February 3, 2010 at 1:20 pm

Didn’t want a gay roommate, Jamie? So much for THAT plan.

Gorillionaire February 3, 2010 at 1:21 pm

By 2012 we’ll be celebrating the christening of the USS Paul Lynde.

[re=506672]Gorillionaire[/re]: Sorry no, Navy ships are only named for Appropriation Committee chairmen these days — really!

SayItWithWookies February 3, 2010 at 1:26 pm

Well — an endorsement from the guy who still has Dick Cheney’s tire tracks on his back from his days at State is certainly a good indicator of how firmly the Obama administration is going to press this issue. Now if only we can get Max Baucus aboard, he’ll use his considerable influence over Olympia Snowe and this thing’ll just sail through the Senate.

Speaking of the Village People! Whooot!

Lascauxcaveman February 3, 2010 at 1:28 pm

What if they just gave them their own platoons, or whatever, to themselves, like they did when they were first bringing the tinted folks into the military?

What Ghey wouldn’t be proud to be a soldier in the Fabulous Fightin’ 51st squadron?

magic titty February 3, 2010 at 1:29 pm

Is this another one of those photos you get after Googling “Macbeth”?

Jim89048 February 3, 2010 at 1:32 pm

[re=506676]V572625694[/re]: This calls for the immediate scuttling of the George H.W.Bush and the Ronald W. motherfucking Reagan!

bitchincamaro February 3, 2010 at 1:39 pm

Some thought they heard Powell insist that “gays in the military can only enhance unit cohesion.” Who can argue with that assessment?

Darkness February 3, 2010 at 1:40 pm

I missed something here. Why is Powell dressed up as a used condom?

chaste everywhere February 3, 2010 at 1:44 pm

[re=506676]V572625694[/re]: You mean Paul Lynde isn’t Appropriation Committee chairman? Then why IS that name so teasingly, tantalisingly familiar?

One Yield Regular February 3, 2010 at 1:46 pm

[re=506672]Gorillionaire[/re]: Or the “re-christening” of the pink submarine from Operation Petticoat.

WadISay February 3, 2010 at 1:48 pm

[re=506677]SayItWithWookies[/re]: You have a genius for understatement. Cheney’s tire tracks disappear into Powell’s kiester.

dijetlo February 3, 2010 at 1:51 pm

Well no wonder, he’s apparently found gainful employment as one of the Village People

Thank god he’s not the Indian, those assless chaps would have just been too much…

Still, finding work in this economy, especially for a man of Colins years? Kudos General/Gay Icon…Kudos.

SayItWithWookies February 3, 2010 at 1:52 pm

[re=506691]Darkness[/re]: He got a promotion — he usually plays the part of the Santorum.

Deacon Frank Orris February 3, 2010 at 1:53 pm

[re=506672]Gorillionaire[/re]: That, in itself, would be reason to keep throwing money at the Navy. If we can also get the USS Harvey Milk and the USS Barney Frank, even better.

JMP February 3, 2010 at 2:05 pm

Hmm. No, while Powell’s done some good since resigning from State he still has along way to go before atoning for his imaginary WMD presentations.

[re=506676]V572625694[/re]: Maybe it could be the USS Lindsay Graham, then.

Hooray For Anything February 3, 2010 at 2:11 pm

Good for Colin. It’s too bad he hasn’t been in any sort of position of power over the past twenty years or so where he could have done something about it.

clientnumber8 February 3, 2010 at 2:13 pm

Will Breitbart enlist?

Come here a minute February 3, 2010 at 2:24 pm

The amount of respect I have for Colin Powell’s opinions can be contained in this small vial I hold in my hand.

McDuff February 3, 2010 at 2:54 pm

Powell statement translation: “Now that I’m not going to a V/P nominee or a cabinet official in a future Republican administration, I’ve decided to do the right thing.”

Jukesgrrl February 3, 2010 at 5:19 pm

[re=506672]Gorillionaire[/re]: “By 2012 we’ll be celebrating the christening of the USS Paul Lynde.”
If the military needs money, they could auction off the rights to breaking the champagne bottle over the bow of the Lynde. And don’t restrict it to Americans, Secretary Gates, because Elton will want to bid. He has the perfect sequined sailor suit to wear.

Long Form Def Certificate February 3, 2010 at 7:37 pm

To borrow from my grandfather, who fought in the South China Sea theatre during WWII, “Sure, there were queers in the Army. They didn’t bother anyone, either. Mostly kept amongst themselves”.

That being the case, & those soldiers being as much THE GREATEST GENERATION (T/M TOM BROKAW) as any other soldiery, I say we honour those path-breaking ‘mos by legitimizing current gay service in the Armed Forces.

hunter.blatherer February 3, 2010 at 7:58 pm

So Colin Powell is gay for war. Didn’t we always know that?

SmallPotatoes February 3, 2010 at 9:46 pm

Here’s a unit we’ll never hear of: The Fightin’ College Republicans

Skwidspawn February 3, 2010 at 11:11 pm

You have to admit that teaching people to ignore a problem is a good way to teach them that there is not a problem at all.

Weeping Jesus February 4, 2010 at 3:56 am

So, whatever happened to Palin’s son who joined the military under duress? He might have benefited from this new policy.

Speed Ball February 4, 2010 at 9:06 am

Powell is in the Dharma Initiative now?

PlanetWingnuta February 4, 2010 at 2:32 pm

[re=507428]Speed Ball[/re]: Powell’s Jacob??? now wouldnt that kick ass….srsly wasnt the lost premier just OOOOOOOOOOO AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH OH NOEZ ITS OVA!!
