Everything you thought you knew is wrong.Arlen Specter is such a loser he would do anything to win, such as RADICALLY shifting his positions from those of a liberal Republican to a conservative Democrat! Just so that he could stay a senator, which offers zero perks except the secret underground supertrain! For a while it looked like he was going to get slaughtered at the polls by perennial enemy Pat Toomey, but now maybe not so much, because of Polling Science.

Observe:

Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter is leading former Republican Rep.Pat Toomey 47 percent to 41 percent with 12 percent undecided, according to a Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll conducted March 8-10. The margin of error is 4 points.

OK, so, “to be fair,” the poll was by your liberal Daily Kos, and it is statistically possible that actually Specter’s at 43 percent and Tooomey’s at 44 percent, which would be truly wicked of Fate to pull off.

But still! Arlen Specter!

Seems Toomah the Teabagger discovered that unfocused US American white rage only goes so far before they want to park their giant wideload asses in their La-Z-Boys, stuff their faces with Cheetos and wash it down with Mountain Dew.

Wishing Arlen Specter well. I feel so sad.

JMP March 15, 2010 at 10:12 am

Specter’s actually been proving reliably liberal in his votes since Joe Sestak started running against him in the primary; although I somehow doubt he’ll keep that up once the primary ends.

Toomey’s just a plain old, Norquist protege, objectivist nut, and had only been doing well in general election polls because most people don’t know much about him. Oh, and he’s less than eleventy-one years old, unlike Specter.

Props for the MC 900 Foot Jesus line in the alt-text.

Birdcrash March 15, 2010 at 10:17 am

Toomey is a dog turd on the sidewalk of life.

donner_froh March 15, 2010 at 10:17 am

A numbskull like Toomey could never be successful against a cancer riddled husk who switches parties at the hint of a better deal.

freakishlystrong March 15, 2010 at 10:25 am

Every time I hear Toomey’s name, I think of The Langoliers.

This is good news for John McCai….

kaykel96 March 15, 2010 at 10:36 am

Who cares!!! My boyfriend thinks the same with me. He- is eight years older than me, lol. We met online at an age gap dating site- A_ge_m_in_gle @ c.o.m a nice and free place for Younger- Women and Older Men, or Older Women and Younger Men, to- interact with each other. Maybe you wanna check out or- tell your friends.

kaykel96 March 15, 2010 at 10:39 am

The Tea Partiers are undecided as neither candidate has posed naked in Cosmopolitan magazine.

@editors

We have a persistently stupid spambot in the wire. Please kill it.

JMP March 15, 2010 at 10:50 am

[re=530242]ManchuCandidate[/re]: This one particularly; on several sites which don’t diligently police comments against spam, that particular one seems to be everywhere.

norbizness March 15, 2010 at 10:56 am

WHAT is UP with our desire to elected the oldest person in each state to the Senate?

A very special aside for Sestak: I want my $25 back if you’re not going to do anything about this party-hopping centenarian.

Formerly Preferred March 15, 2010 at 10:57 am

[re=530242]ManchuCandidate[/re]: I don’t know, I thought kaykel’s comments were pretty trenchant, especially in light of Mr. Specter’s advanced age. Or something.

In re: the headline–it doesn’t matter if he wins the election. Arlen Specter will still be just as much of a loser, after all.

JMP March 15, 2010 at 11:09 am

[re=530253]norbizness[/re]: Once someone becomes a Senator, it seems like “Retirement” becomes a dirty word. Hell, the average age is 63. No wonder Bunning has turned into a world-class asshole after being pressured to retire; they’re letting all of the other senile old coots stay in office.

I hope he’s telling Snowe and Collins how much better life is when you don’t a bunch of conservative southern Senators going “Grrr-rrr-rrr!!!” at you all the time.

I read it as an ad for a site targeting psycho-sadist doctors who graduated from Texas A&M. And I mean, really, don’t Aggie Mengeles deserve to have a place of their own?

[re=530269]Cape Clod[/re]: No, no…it’s “errr, errr”, as Senator Voinovich helpfully noted.

[re=530270]user-of-owls[/re]: What I want to know is how they keep the younger women and younger men from mingling with each other. Some sort of membrane?

user-of-owls March 15, 2010 at 11:32 am

[re=530273]Formerly Preferred[/re]: I think they just keep the age gap concept going regardless of the age of the men. Thus, older men will mingle with younger women, while younger men will mingle with even younger women, and so on. The sequence finally ends with Chris Hansen and a camera crew showing up at your door.

Only Ernst Stavro Blofeld knows what SPECTER is up to.

Specter 47%
Toomey 41%
Undecided 12%
Margin of error 4%

So, here two possible outcomes:

Specter 31% (47% less 12% undecided less 4% margin of error)
Toomey 69% (gets all the other votes)

Specter 63% (47% plus 12% undecided plus 4% MOE)
Toomey 36% (gets all other votes)

In other words, this poll is meaningless, and Kos should take a deep breath before publishing such drivel.

[re=530292]V572625694[/re]: Yes, as our pretend boyfriend Nate Silver over at 538 is fond of pointing out, Kos/R2K polls are like the left’s version of Rasmussen. Strong house effect, depending on who commissioned the poll. http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2010/03/house-effects-render-poll-reading.html

V572625694 March 15, 2010 at 12:15 pm

[re=530317]Lascauxcaveman[/re]: Although that’s not even nearly as irritating as the “in an unscientific poll” meme Our Nation’s Broadcasters are so fond of using to lend bogus authenticity to their prejudices.

How has that Kaykel ‘bot evaded the ban hammer? It’s time, oh gods of wonkette universe.

I join the chorus of liberal voices feeling weird about cheering for Specter. On the other hand, Chris Dodd, with nothing to lose, is bending over for the bankers, so my disgust for him is balancing things out.
