BREAKING: Bush Offers Gonzales His Support; Gonzales Clearly Doomed
In what most political observers have come to recognize as a sure sign of impending political demise, President Bush made a personal phone call to embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales offering his support.
At the ungodly hour of 7: 15 in he morning, Bush called Gonzales to "reaffirm his strong backing and support," according to Tony Snow. Snow needed to explain what happened because the Attorney General was almost certainly still asleep at the time, so his memory of the conversation is no doubt pretty fuzzy.
The Justice Department is less than a mile away from the White House, so the meeting clearly could have been held in person, but then Bush would have had to breathe in the stench of political death rising off of the damned AG, and seen his face fall when he received the firm words of presidential support that inevitably presage the end of a person's political career.
