BREAKING: Michelle Obama Was One Adorable Little Girl
Michelle Obama took to the Instagrams Thursday to mark the first week of school and something called the "International Day of Charity" that we wouldn't have heard about otherwise. Posting a photo of herself as a little girl, Obama called for greater educational opportunities -- like any at all, in some cases -- for the "more than 98 million adolescent girls around the world" who aren't attending school. Gee, she was promoting the interests of people who need help? Didn't she have any weather forecasts to yell about? There go the Obamas again, making everything about themselves.
Noting that it's easy for Americans to "take our education for granted," the most admired woman in the world said it sure would be nice if girls around the world were so lucky:
I believe every girl on the planet deserves the same kind of opportunities that I've had—a chance to fulfill her potential and pursue her dreams. We know that when we give girls a chance to learn, they'll seize it. And when they do, our whole world benefits. Girls who go to school have healthier children, higher salaries, lower poverty rates, and they can even help boost their entire nation's economy.
Gee, that's a refreshingly altruistic take; sounds like the sort of things we used to hear from First Families all the time. Sure beats "I REALLY DON'T CARE, DO U?"
The connection to that "International Day of Charity" thing came in the closing, with a link to the Girls Opportunity Alliance, a program of the Obama Foundation that seeks to "empower adolescent girls around the world through education, allowing them to achieve their full potential and transform their families, communities, and countries."
Well that's awfully nice, and a hell of a lot easier to get behind than campaigning to convince kids not to be assholes online like one's spouse.
