For GOP members of the House International Relations Committee, Roll Call reports, Wednesday's vote on the U.N. Reform Act of 2005 was "crucial," because it "was viewed as the crowning moment for retiring International Relations Chairman Henry Hyde." But there was also a pro-am golf tournament scheduled at the Congressional Country Club that day, so for Rep. Dan Burton the choice was an easy one. Fore! Not a very popular with his GOP colleagues, though, especially since the bill barely passed. As one anonymous legislator put it, "Dan Burton has enraged me...And he wants to be the fucking committee chairman?!" So, maybe another round then? No real reason to rush back to the office now. — GREG BEATO
