U.S. President George W. Bush has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for "fighting terrorism and promoting world peace," according to a BBC News report. Bush has successfully promoted peace and democracy in many terrorist nations, including Iraq and Afghanistan, while making Americans safer and more prosperous at home.

Harald Tom Nesvik of Norway's Party for Progress made the formal nomination for Bush and his since-retired U.K. counterpart, Tony Blair.

"The background for my nomination is their decisive action against terrorism, something I believe in the future will be the greatest threat to peace," Nesvik told the Associated Press.

Bush will complete his second term in January 2009.
