You may have heard that last weekend Karl Rove gave the commencement address to Liberty University. We haven't found a complete transcript, but based on the quotes that appeared in news coverage, we feel that we've cracked the Rove code.
Rove | What it means |
[America needs people who have] the moral clarity and courage to do what's right, regardless of consequence, fashion or fad. . . | Leave the doing wrong to people like me. |
[D]on't act like you're smarter than the person you're interviewing with. Even if you are. | Your worst fears about the Bush White House are true. (And hey: he'll never hear about this. . . it's not like he reads the papers or anything.) |
The most powerful force in the world created by man may be nuclear power, but it is followed closely by compound interest. . . | Our initial Iraqi invasion plan was to sell Saddam a shitload of junk bonds. |
At the age of 9, I put a Nixon bumper sticker on the wire basket in the front of my bicycle. | Evil is born, not made. |
When [the little girl down the street] saw me on my bike with my bumper sticker for Nixon, she put me on the ground, flattened me out and gave me a bloody nose. | Being evil doesn't keep you from being a big pussy. |
Despite that beating I never lost interest in politics. | Twenty years later, I had her killed. |
