Kayleigh McEnany Retires To Florida, Will Search For Real Killers Of Her Conscience
Professional liar Kayleigh McEnany is now just a liar without a lectern. The White House press secretary and Hatch Act-violating Trump campaign adviser packed up her office Friday and fled to Tampa, Florida, the home world for Kayleigh McEnanys. Unlike her predecessor, Stephanie Grisham, who never held an actual press briefing, McEnany gave briefings but they were filled with lies and insults. It's the difference between never taking your kids to Disney World and taking them to a burned-down building and saying it was Disney World.
McEnany's reportedly working “remotely" until Wednesday when Donald Trump's kidney-stone-passing presidency finally ends. Even honest people sometimes phone it in when they “work from home" during their last few days on the job, but McEnany did find time Monday to tweet some empty, hypocritical praise for Dr. Martin Luther King.
Faith without works is dead, and McEnany's actual work is disgustingly racist. Here's what she said about Senator-elect Raphael Warnock, the pastor at Dr. King's former church.
Conservatives like McEnany smeared Dr. King as a communist when he was alive (and for quite a while afterward). What's worse than the bigoted slander is that McEnany, a government employee, implies that Warnock didn't “fairly" win his Senate runoff election.
She shared a metric shit ton of misinformation on January 5, when the worst thing Republicans assumed would happen that week was they'd lose the Senate.
The January 6 attack on the Capitol wasn't a spontaneous demonstration. It was the product of a sustained assault on the democratic process. McEnany cynically cashed her (taxpayer) check and helped Trump spread his Big Lie, often appearing on Fox News and claiming she had SO MUCH EVIDENCE of voter fraud (there was no such evidence). McEnany (somehow) graduated from Harvard Law but pretended not to know how “standing" works so Trump supporters would think there was some conspiracy behind multiple courts across the country tossing out the Trump campaign's meritless lawsuits. People who soaked in her lies would later show up in Washington DC primed for violence, and McEnany sneered at CNN for even suggesting that this might turn out badly.
Yes, a few random Democrats objected in the past to Republican presidents' electors in a protest that no one (not even the Democrats) believed would change the outcome. In 2000, 2004, and 2016, the Democratic nominee had already conceded the election and didn't spend the past few weeks claiming the election was stolen. McEnany lied, as usual, and claimed this was no different from Trump's mad scheme to have Mike Pence overturn the election. (Al Gore was, like Pence, the lame duck vice president presiding over the electoral count in 2000 but there was never a thought that he'd reject Florida's electors. He even personally ruled the objections out of order.)
McEnany and other Republicans thought they were so clever pointing out apparent Democratic hypocrisy, but an angry mob of Gore, John Kerry, or Hillary Clinton supporters didn't break into the Capitol, attack police officers, and kill people. That is a uniquely MAGA distinction.
She addressed the press for the last time on January 7, the day after her boss's violent coup attempt. She refused to take questions and instead read a prepared statement of lies.
MCENANY: What we saw yesterday, was a group of violent rioters undermining the legitimate First Amendment rights of the many thousands who came to peacefully have their voices heard in our nation's Capitol. Those who violently besieged our Capitol are the opposite of everything this administration stands for. The core value of our administration is the idea that all citizens have the right to live in safety, peace, and freedom.
Her words weren't just absurd but they lacked any shred of humility or remorse. Sure, those are human emotions, but McEnany didn't even try to fake them. She played “no true Scotsman" with Trump supporters and refused to own up to the mindless rage she'd personally helped stoke. She wasn't horrified over what she'd done. She just wanted to avoid accountability.
MCENANY: Those who are working in this building are working to ensure an orderly transition of power.
The Trump administration spent weeks fighting a peaceful transition. This was the first time McEnany acknowledged that the election was over and that Trump wouldn't have a second term. This pointless war she'd waged had real casualties.
It's yet another lie that anyone at the White House was focused on “an orderly transition of power." We're in the middle of a global pandemic, and the Trump administration has ghosted.
MCENANY: Now it is time for America to unite, to come together, to reject the violence that we have seen. We are one American people under God. Thank you very much.
Thus McEnany's final press conference hath murdered truth. She demonized and attacked the press for nine months and spent Trump's lame duck period convincing millions of Americans that the election was rigged. She's hot garbage.
@kayleighmcenany You are a bottomless pit of disgrace who will never work again and belongs in prison #ByeKayleigh https://t.co/nLnbxA9p0A— Andrew Wortman 🏳️🌈 (@Andrew Wortman 🏳️🌈)1610768686.0
Jake Tapper said that McEnany "lies as easily as most people breathe." There is probably no better description of the single worst press secretary in American history, and yes, that includes Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
